I always feel so sad for River when she kisses the Doctor. She’s been terrified of meeting the youngest version of him (which we see in Silence in the Library), and her realising that she may never kiss the Doctor again as she is going backwards along his timeline shows her that the Library encounter is much sooner than she thought. Great stuff from Moffat.

Rory’s face when he realises Amy was talking about/to him all that time is so cute. This is SUCH a clever solution, like the Doctor specialises in using an enemy’s power against them but WOW, this is on such a huge scale, using one of the most famous pieces of TV in history to ensure the message will NEVER die haha I adore River. So much. Her vs the Silence is so beautifully badass, and shooting the one behind her? We don’t even see Rory’s face, but we know he reacted to it and she reacted to him. Perfect.

Well, the reason there seem to be such deeply-placed links between here and the library is simple: The man who wrote the library story is now (relative time of course-then to us) the show runner. Moffat was really the master-nuts when it came to coming up with crazily-intertwined, complicated, paradoxical stuff, and resolving it all! So, now we have so many unanswered questions from this story: Who is this girl? If she's a Time Lord, how did she escape the destruction of Gallifrey in the Time War? Is Amy pregnant or not? And what about the weird gestapo chick with the eye-plate? Spoilers. Yes, I know the answers, but I'm enjoying going through this again with Jules, seeing her first-time reactions to all the surprises. All I can say is stay tuned. This season's ride is not slowing down any, even when it seems it does. 😉 'Til next week, Jules! ❤️

I've often wondered if the Doctor's plan to drive the Silence off Earth was a time loop; it's almost certain he's seen the landing video more than once in the past (In Blink Martha outright said they'd seen the landing several times, in fact), so he might well have seen the hidden hypnotic transmission. And then he sees the Silence here, and before he even attempts to negotiate or figure out what they're after he's set up an elaborate plan to have humanity killing them for generations no matter what. It's unusually extreme for the Doctor, and feels like killing many of them was more important than actually stopping their plan. Which would make all too much sense if on some level the Doctor subconsciously thought he should kill them all on sight.

Series 5 and 6 are just so well done. I do remember these first two episodes for series 6 not being well received initially. They were seen as two convoluted by some. I do remember for myself being a little off put by all the moving parts, and as I recall even Moffat wasn't entirely sure if he could bring it all in for a landing by the end of the series. By the end of the second episode we have a lot of questions in the air. The energy level, also, is just incredible. Keeping up this high pace for the actors, the music (The 11th Doctor's theme is just such a kick ass piece of music. So much hype!), the editing, the scope of the production. It's all off the chart.

Even when the overarching story is a mess, many of the individual episodes and moments are so strong they mostly make up for it, and he is still one of the most creative and inventive writers that Doctor Who has ever had. Hello, Jules! 💜 I agree! An incredible opening sequence. Everyone playing their part - even Nixon! What an hour for you - the first time viewing of an excellent episode - Although the 11th's episodes have all been pretty close to excellent, but very unique, and like an unstoppable force, just keep moving - full of excellent stories, excellent cast members, and almost always totally unexpected happenings - like suddenly, it's a Horror Story! 😨 I was thinking about this one last evening, and looking forward to your reaction. If last week could be the "What!?!" episode, then this is the "What!?! What!?! What??" episode. 😅 So many things thrown at the viewer in this one, and I can even imagine, with your fantastic attention to detail, you were able to add a few more "What!?!?" moments, for this one, as you went through the editing phase, and absorbed more of the tale. I liked the Silence in the Library thought. Things pop up in the series every once in a while, and maybe they are related, directly, they might be loosely related, or simply a little whisper, just to keep an idea alive. To my mInd, in a few ways, Amelia's wall crack was like all three, at given times, throughout series 5. Speaking of mentioning things, like Silence. There was even one more moment - in The Impossible Astronaut - when Rory and River were talking about her worse day coming, River says “ … think about that impressionable young girl and suddenly this man just drops out of the sky … “, which makes Rory think of Amy, and then this conversation appears again here. Everything about these 2 episodes is brilliant, and they are made forever memorable by the many moments between the characters - for me, between River and anyone else, but especially between her and the Doctor. But, on top of the Silence, there are a few loose ends here, a number of cliffhanger endings to various pathways in the tale. I love this story, and am very anxious to witness where it leads you. 🥰 Have a serene day, Jules. 💜🤗💜 I hope you have plenty of fun things going on, and I await your next video serving with great anticipation, as I never know what you are going to offer next, and the wait is … well, who doesn’t like anticipation? 😊 Supposed to be snow storms all day tomorrow, so I might move Laundro day to Friday, depends. Writers have a technique they master and use again especially in a same TV series for continuity. They can't be too pinned to any arc or future plans because it can change if actors opt to leave. We had the Tennant 4th series to look back on and how it ended. He was the "raggedy man" with the torn by glass outfit. We know that it ends better than what River fears if it OK to be in a library simulation. (I now imagine the Silence being anywhere in any story explaining why everyone forgets each story.) We do have the potential for comic and novel series if we are not able to get it on TV. (Big Finish is what fills in where you want more. Audio is a cool way to enjoy Doctor Who. I hope that the audios get reaction videos at least reviewed as they would be hard to edit.)

The Silence are probably my second favourite concept for a new enemy type, my first of course is the Weeping Angels. Though I think the Silence are scarier and though psychotic, the Angels deliver their victims to the the great equaliser, time. The implications of fighting an enemy that makes you forget they exist is terrifying. Imagine what horrors they could do and then you forget it all, only for them to be able to do it again. All that forgotten trauma I think would build up, even if you forget it. Like a nagging feeling in the back of your mind of waking up from a nightmare that terrified you, but you don’t know why.

Bit of silly trivia: yes, it was filmed in American but they also, if memory serves, went out of their way to have as much American stuff as possible. In the last episode, there was an American yellow school bus, the antique red car the Doctor had is an Edsel (yep, ‘murrican). The revolved River used to shoot off the Doctor’s (American) Stetson had is also an old American handgun. And in this one, all the cars seen in the foreground (such as the ones Canton and his team use to chase down Amy and Rory) are all Jeeps. I suppose if you’re going to lean into a thing, may as well lean in all the way. :)

I wish they had made this just a little more clear, but the heartbreaking thing about the Doctor River kiss and the reason she reacted the way that she did is because they are moving in opposite directions. So for her, they had kissed many, many times, but because he says it was the first time, that means that, for her, it was the last time. She'll may never kiss him again because the next time she sees him, it will be earlier than this in his timeline. His giddiness in the moment made him (and the audience) miss how sad it was for her.

The Vashta Nerada were different beings, but the episode feels related. Silence will fall and the pandorica will open has been lurking around since the Crack in Space to start season Five? Yes Prisoner zero warns that Silence will fall. You have a screw driver go build a cabinet. Amy is having Schrodinger's baby ? Both Alive and Dead until you observe it?

Alex Kingston (River Song) was on the American medical drama ER, her character was good, but something about her put me off. I don’t usually let feelings of about a character bleed over to my feelings about the actor, but a small part of me must have a little memory of those feelings because when she showed up on Doctor Who I remember not liking her and I was worried. However River or the character of River completely 180’d those feelings and now I confess I have the opposite reaction and let the character of River influence me every time I see Alex in a different role.

I loved every minute of this episode of Jules Reacts and every reaction from the lovely Jules. Maybe it's something to do with The Silence, but I had forgotten just how amazing this episode is, especially the performances by the entire cast. And the best is yet to come!

aside from the van gogh ep, this one is my fave story coz of how scary they built the concept of the alien, like how scary the plausibility of them existing in real life but we keep forgetting they are there, shivers me timbers

I never did warm up to River.-- I think I'd seen her actress in something previously and it tainted my perception of her -- but she does have her moments: "Honey, what are you doing?" "Helping!" "You've got a screwdriver! Go build a cabinet!" "That's really rude!" 😆

This is one of the times where Doctor is truly terrifying. With jokes and quips he just kickstarted a genocide of an alien race. An evil race, but still. It is a REALLY bad idea to threaten the Doctor's companions.

Does a decent job of giving us answers while raising a lot more questions :). And yep, by this point the show was riding high and making a pretty deliberate push to "crack" America, so they both had the budget and incentive to film some stuff in the US (i'm going to assume you thought last episode was amazing green screen rather than that there are parts of Wales that look like that - the diner's in Wales, the expansive desert not so much :).

There is a small mistake in the scene with Rory on Hoover dam at 2:08. the bridge in the background wasn't built until 2010 while he is supposed to be in 1969. EDIT: I am dumb, it is Glen Canyon Dam and the bridge was there at that point in time, disregard😅

Another small thing, not Hoover. It's the Glen Canyon Dam, and its bridge was completed in 1959.
