I love what Amy says at the end, "It’s always you and her isn’t it? Long after the rest of us have gone." The TARDIS is the Doctor's closest friend; they've always been together and they always will be. The Doctor loses so many people, but the TARDIS is always there for him

At NYCC recently, David Tennant was lamenting the fact that he left DW without getting to have Neil Gaiman write an episode for him... Neil replied that, when he wrote this, he did not know who would be playing the Doctor, so he wrote it with David in mind. So in a sense, he did write for David's Doctor. He said he "Matted it up" later, as the series went along.

@@zeallust8542 Because the Time Lords believe that each one is in charge. You put 6 Time Lords, even 6 Incarnations of the same one, and they would battle each other for the right to call the shots on the flight. The High Council could designate which one was in command, but it would not work, The fight would happen regardless. We saw that with the Three Doctors. 2 and 3 fought constantly, and only worked together when 1 showed up, and that was while he was actually talking to them. We saw how the Master would act with himself. He would literally kill him selves. All the other Time Lords would be in between these two extremes, to varying degrees, and it would apply between multiple Time Lords, in Incarnation number and separate figures. Only the High Council works together effectively, and there are strict laws to allow that work to happen, that apply only in that council chamber. This because each Time Lord on the High Council comes from a chapter House, of which there are eight Houses, total, and outside that Council chamber the Houses are all pretty much at open war with each other, and at open war between each House member inside each House. They assassinate each other on a regular basis, after each debate.

The only other time those cubes were seen, it was the Doctor contacting the Time Lords for help in _The War Games_ (1969). The story is significant for being the first appearance of the Time Lords (and also for naming them as such). It's also the last 2nd Doctor story, the last black and white story, and the only 10-part story (making it the third longest in the history of the show).

When Rory said "2000 years I waited for you, you did it to me again!" he's not saying he waited another 2000 years. You're misinterpreting it. He's saying she left him alone and waiting again. Plus that wasn't house playing with time, it was making her see things, like later when to her the hallway went dark, but to Rory it was fully lit.

Such a wonderful episode! Surranne Jones did an amazing job. Episodes like these are why people adore Doctor Who. Yeah there's cheese and bad CGI etc but the atmosphere and ethos is so beautiful and every once in a while a stunning episode comes along and punches you in the stomach. Michael Sheen is playing Aziraphale in the upcoming adaptation of Good Omens alongside David Tennant and based on a book by Neil Gaiman (and Terry Pratchett)! I love how close knit the UK acting scene is. He's also been in relationships with some of the most beautiful women e.g Rachel McAdams, Kate Beckinsale and he recently split up with Sarah Silverman. Hyped for future reactions as always.

The "Bubble with a smaller bubble on the outside", I don't know why, it *always* makes me think of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. One of my favorite lines on the second book, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe happens when Arthur is complaining that they're leaving the place without watching the actual end of the Universe (which was supposed to be the main attraction of the restaurant), because Zappod and Ford wanted to steal a ship and needed to bail. When an angry Arthur demands at least a description of what the end of the universe looks like... It goes something along the lines of - It's boring monkey, it's just a big old Gnab Gib. - What is a Gnab Gib!? - Well, imagine you have a giant bathtub, the biggest bathtub in existence. Then you decide to plug the drain for some reason, and fill it all the way to the brim with tiny marbles. Then you start to record it, unplug the bathtub and let aaaaall the little marbles flood in through the drain, then you take the footage you captured and watch it in reverse, at twice the speed. - So that's what a Gnab Gib is like? - What? No, but that would be really relaxing to watch!

Eric, the way I finally came to terms with the idea of "before time" is to have come up with an overly simplistic analogy. Nothing truly comparative, but it helped me find enough of a comparison to sink my teeth into it. Basically the analogy is to equate time with a river. (been done, I know but go with me a moment longer) The river starts, it flows, and eventually it ends. But before the river starts, between the beginning and the end, outside of it's flow, and after it ends, the water that makes up the river still exists.... as vapor. So for me "before time" is something like what water is before it's liquid, before it's the river... when it's just vapor, existing, but with out form or definition. Like I said overly simplistic, but it gave me a window.

Oh what a pretty web of lies. No, Neil Gaiman doesn't think Nightmare in Silver is "shit". He thinks it's unpolished due to taking longer than expected in production leading to a few corners being cut, and laments that it didn't come out exactly as he wished for. On that, however, he also states that he wrote the entire episode with the goal in mind of forcing Matt Smith to show just how freaking great of an actor he is, and Gaiman claims to be pretty happy that this was something he felt he fully achieved with the episode.

It's easy to forget just how good this episode is when you haven't seen it for a while. Doctor Who's writing has this amazing talent for being both very funny and very touching at the same time.

If you listen carefully after the Tardis says I'm alive before she disappears she says 'I love you' , but it still makes me so emotional to hear the Tardis say it to the doctor! Probably one of the best written episodes of DW history.

I love the new perspective that we get in this episode. From the Doctor's perspective, he wanted to explore the universe, so he stole the TARDIS. From the TARDIS' perspective, she wanted to do the same, so she stole the Doctor.

It's kind of funny that Micheal Sheen voices The House in a Doctor Who episode written by Neil Gaiman when a few years later he and David Tennent (The Doctor) star in Good Omens (originally written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett). Anyway, I never noticed that before.

This episode was the last time the 9th/10th console room was seen on TV. Shortly afterwards it was dismantled (this was delayed slightly so it could be used here) and sections and console were put in the exhibition at Cardiff (now deceased).

Michael Sheen is a Welsh actor from Port Talbot, he's currently in 'Good Omens' with Tennant and 'Slaughterhouse Rules' with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Also was the robot bar-tender in 'Passengers' with Jennifer Lawrence and that Pratt. He got on well with Craig Ferguson on his chat-show.

Hitchhiker's Guide was written as a radio play. If you can find a copy that's the best way to hear it for the first time. It was written by one of Neil Gaiman's inspirations the late great Douglas Adam's who also was a Doctor Who fan/writer.
