"These are the Daleks who survived me" Chilling. Even after years

Oftentimes it feels like doctor who can forget it's own continuity in places, as most younger fans probably would be less aware of Spiridon, Kembal, Aridius, Vulkan, Exilon. But having listened to an audio drama on the daleks and their history as a child during Tennant's era, this was an immediate and dramatic escalation in tension.

The amount of fear in his voice as he’s cornered sells how screwed he is right now. He’s surrounded by insane Daleks who all hate him, he’s out of regenerations, and he’s completely cornered. One of the rare times where the Doctor has no way out and he knows it

While the Moffat era didn’t exactly give the Daleks the same hype and treatment that the RTD era gave them (especially nearing the end of Capaldi’s run), it still knew that the Daleks weren’t something to be brushed off like the Chibnall era’s been doing This is probably one of my favorite Doctor and Dalek moments in the Moffat era, watching the Doctor cower in immense fear from the Daleks is simply incredible

@alkdklsdflkfds69703 жыл бұрын
@@karlhyetravelerofworlds This. We don't let Vietnam veterans in psychiatric crisis a weapon of any kind for good reason. Of course the less troubled of the bunch may bear arms, as any free citizen should be able to. My dad suffered in Bosnia, Panama, Iraq and Afghanistan. I've had to climb the roof of the house at 14 years old to take away his rifle, he thought he was in Iraq trying to rescue an injured medic from a rooftop apparently. He told me the story once he recovered some later that night. Alochol was heavily involved. Pleased to say he is in a much better place now. Even my own father, retired mustang Colnel, a veteran and slayer of men, I had to take his weapon. It was as simple as addressing him sternly by his rank and demanding his weapon, he deftly put it into my hands instantly. I shudder to think what might have happened if I wasn't there, he could have killed himself. Probably would have, as I found him in poor shape. Self inflicted cuts plauged his arms and he was near blackout drunk. My point is that PTSD is incredible, insidious and powerful, and sometimes takes years to fully manifest and years to treat. If the doctor was real I'm sure facing him would shake Daleks down to the core, as they fought for many years. It would be a mistake to arm them.

@Great_Olaf53 жыл бұрын
@@alkdklsdflkfds6970 I mean, you have a point IRL, but these are the Daleks, I don't think that rationale was on their minds. The self harm one has some potential given how much reverence they have for hatred, they might not want to leave these ones with the ability to kill each other, but that doesn't explain why they would *only* disarm the ones who'd fought the Doctor.

I always thought the reason the Doctor got so scared here was because he knew he was on his last regeneration and couldn't find a way out, this was potentially the end for him. I feel like Chibnall's retcon kind of ruined that intensity.
@Great_Olaf5 Жыл бұрын
Why would you have thought that? The retcon about him being out of regenerations hadn't been aired yet at this point, as far as any of us knew, he still had two bodies left. No, to me he was just scared because these ones A) had a particular grudge and B) had *survived* him before. Not many Daleks can claim the latter, and most of them come out of the experience... Changed. (thinking Dalek Caan in particular, though also Dalek Sec)
@melodypond8008 Жыл бұрын
@@Great_Olaf5 I remember thinking Tennant's fake out regeneration counted, making him 11, Smith technically 12 and the classic series maintained he had 12 lives. Regardless of the War Doctor addition later (which I did like, was great excuse to give John Hurt a crack at the role) I figured they'd need to write a retcon soon anyway, hence the Doctor's fear here. It wasn't just this episode, I noticed Smith seemed more on edge in general towards his later series. I do like your interpretation too though, gives the Daleks more weight as enemies and I can totally see that being Moffat's intention here.

When I saw the scene I was terrified, and still am, I mean think about it what if you're wondering one day and then you see these peper pots with egg whisks and plungers and one of them extends their plunger to try to grasp your face and crush it, the dalek manipulator arm is a scary thing it can stretch mold into any shape and strong enough to crush a car you can also exert enough pressure to suffocate someone and could also be used to drain Intel I was very afraid of the DALEK plunger and I'm still am.
