David Tennant does the 'Doctor' thing so well. he plays straight off of Eccleston without issue - Like he is still stuck in Eccleston mode until he is fully ready to shift over.

England has a telethon every year called "Children in Need". To get people to watch, there's usually a lot of celebrity appearances and performances, and a few shows will even produce special mini-episodes, or "minisodes", just for the telethon. This was one of those minisodes, and it helped to give people a little taste of Doctor Who about the midpoint between Series 1 and 2. There are a number of other similar minisodes that were made that are yet to come.

I don't :). My least liked New Who Doctor. I'm not even sure I liked him at all. i didn't DISlike him, I was just lukewarm on him. I didn't like Tennant as much as everyone else either. Tennant was my favorite followed by Capaldi.

They shot it in the middle of series 2. You can also see the seam where they slotted the two halves into different recording blocks. Different lighting, camera placement. This was a short thing for charity, so they shot what they could when they could, in and around other things.

To answer your question, they filmed this at the same time as they began filming the Christmas special. Billie Piper wasn't actually there the day David Tennant shot his first scene, post-regeneration, so at the end of the Series 1 finale he's literally talking to a tennis ball on a stick. Legit, they filmed Eccleston and Piper together for the regeneration scene... without having yet cast the 10th Doctor. So several months later during editing, once Tennant was cast, they filmed him by himself without Piper there then inserted it in. You'll notice in "Parting of the Ways," Tennant and Piper never appear in a shot together because of this. So for this special, they legit had to get everybody back months later just for this.

Produced for CiN. The way I see it, a way of quickly "explaining" regeneration to the newer audience before the special comes. That's why even though it's inconsequential I always recommend it to people starting the show.

These are minisodes that sometimes are more like intros or like commercials that the show does. Just for fun really like movies. That's one of the things what's brilliant and amazing about the show. So yeah this is what this is really completely normal and just to entertain and making the show more fun and enjoyable to watch.

This one's a bit awkward because there are two versions of the audio. They accidentally released the episode on the DVD's using the temp track instead of the final sounds and music it aired with. This is the temp track, and it's not as good as the real thing.
