At this point in the popularity of the show it is just like that in the US and in a lot of places. Classic Doctor Who was a big thing in UK for sure, but it has gone global. Same as Star Wars, really. Who doesn't at least know what Star wars is, seriously? Same I am sure goes for Doctor Who, at least among all the people I know it is like that now
