Yes I feel that this season could have done with more episodes because this season we have had not that much time with 15 and ruby most of time and I feel like the series finale of this season feels a bit rushed because I feel as though this could have worked as a 3 part finale or for the finale to the 15th doctor era but with what Mrs flood said about 15 could we see him becoming the time lord victors or some new broken version of the doctor and could Mrs flood play a big part in his eventual regeneration story down the line

Exactly! It’s already been confirmed she’ll be back. For most of Matt Smith’s run by the end of each episode he’d return his companion to their home, then he would have adventures without his companions.

The first non-romantic “I love you” between a Doctor and companion, and it was just perfect. Every other time the line is said it’s always a long awaited “I’m in love with you”, and while this isn’t necessarily bad (Rose in Doomsday gets me as much as the next person), it is a common trope. When Ruby says it here, when she’s about to leave the TARDIS and she turns back one last time with tears in her eyes and looks at him and she quietly says “I love you”, it’s not an “Oh, I’m in love with you, actually”, it’s a “You’re my best friend, I know this is going to hurt you, I’m thankful for everything but we both know I have to leave even though I don’t truly want to lose you, I love you and I’m sorry”. Personally, I find it makes the scene so incredibly tragic and sad in a way a romantic “I love you” never could. Loved Ruby, loved her companion exit ❤ Little edit: The Doctor’s face at 3:15 is just a perfect continuation of this. Without words, it says “I know. I love you too.”

It's so nice to have a clearly platonic "I love you" between a male and female character. I love the Doctor and Ruby's friendship so much, even if it was short lived.

@@FelipeA81 I think those were less clear as to whether they were platonic or not. Amy has kissed the doctor before, and I don't exactly remember when Clara said it, but I don't think he's ever referred to her as his best friend, unlike Ruby. I would count Donna, since her relationship with the doctor is definitely platonic, but I don't think she's said it. Even if you don't see it as the first time, I still find it to be a really special and emotional moment, with no implied romance

@@FelipeA81 Ig it’s up to personal interpretation, but I always saw those as being romantic. I don’t think Clara and Amy ever actually have a relationship of that kind with the Doctor, but they are often portrayed as having a dynamic with the Doctor that shifts towards one of that nature. Amy tries to make out with 11 at one point and Clara and 11 (although they do lose this when he regenerates imo) definitely have the “I’m in love with you” vibe, as 12 specifically has the “I’m not your boyfriend, Clara” line in reference to their dynamic/relationship when he was 11. Ig what I meant with the original comment was that of the strictly “Best Buddies” relationships of the show (in which there is no mention or indication of the aforementioned attraction on either side) Ruby is the first to tell the Doctor she loves him.

I've seen people feeling very mixed on whether the Doctor should have said "I love you" back. I did think it was odd at first, since this is the Doctor who has been pushed as more open and honest with his feelings. My interpretation here though is that the Doctor held back his response because he was trying so hard to send Ruby off with his usual charm and smiles. I think he was devastated not only that she was leaving him, but also because she got the closure she'd been dreaming about all her life and he didn't. That particular connection between them was severed. And while he didn't resent her for it, I think he also felt a lot of pain and didn't want to put that on her. And so he kept up a brave face and told her all the things he thought she needed to hear. But that "I love you..." I think perhaps he was afraid he'd just break down if he said it, given the fact that he did exactly that the moment she left.

That's literally RTD. I mean, in season 3 we heard David was leaving, the end, it looked like he was about to regenerate, but no. In season 4 we had a full-blown regeneration, but again no. End of time, 2, it happened.

@@oranmccann2476 that’s not true though, in the same scene Ruby finds out about her biological mother, Kate reads out her fathers full name so not only does Ruby know but everyone in that scene knew too. Also even if it wasn’t in that moment it makes logical sense that she’d be talking to her and she’d tell Ruby, about her father, especially his name so either way makes sense why she’d know his name

i'd love to see considering millie's absence in the xmas special and her reduced role in next season that 15 probably wont go back to her again, a lot like susan. part of me thinks that that emotional bond they shared of both being orphans is no longer there and 15 is a little bitter that ruby got her happy ever after

Yeah that’s definitely true, it’s really sad to see as that was a big part of how they managed to connect, like he said she did change him so he feels more open about the fact he was adopted than before, but he still lost the person he had that connection with. No matter what he can’t help but feel at least some jealousy about her finding her biological family and finding out why she was abandoned

Was I the only one disappointed by the reveal of her mother? It could’ve been any character already in the show, but they create this new character out of nowhere. As the viewer, it seemed very rushed, like it was a last minute decision going “oh hang on, we’ve forgotten about this”. And who was the woman who gave the Doctor the spoon? That whole scene confused me. Obviously we’ll see Mrs Flood again at some stage

I think all of this is just Davies trying to push his philosophy of "we put meaning" into things, to describe religion and faith, but does so much of a worse job than Moffat in Boom Many people didn't know their parents and wanted to know who they are, doesn't mean snow starts falling everywhere. There's no actual explanation for anything about Ruby being different. It's just a paradoxical loop of importance, the reason she's important is the reason people find her important. How dumb.

I can't help notice that in classic Doctor Who it was always a race against time for the the Doctor to outhink his enemies and thwart their dastardly plans to destroy the universe. Now, the Doctor seems incapable of doing so until the disaster has actually occurred? He can undo a universe-wide holocaust, but he couldn't prevent it from happening? I no longer recognise this show. 😢

Plus, he freakin killed Katarina and Sara Kingdom. 2nd Doctor - In the episode "the war games" he caused the death of many people because he couldn't stop a war orchestrated by another renegade timelord, the war chief. Plus, he didn't stop daleks, a lot of people died like his companion Victoria's friends and relatives. 3rd Doctor - He caused a lot of enviromental damage during the green death episode. 4th Doctor - He tried to save people from a monster in a lighthouse, he failed, everyone die but him and his companion. Plus, he had one fucking job during the genesis of daleks, he failed, causing a bootstrap paradox 5th Doctor - Caves of Androzoni, he failed, a lot of people die, he regenerates. Plus, Adric, lol 6th Doctor - Again, he couldn't stop daleks nor cybermen. We can also talk about the war doctor, if you want to. Or 9th, or 8th. The Doctor failes a lot, causes a lot of deaths, this is why he felt loneliness and guilt, this is part of his character.
