I love the visual symbolism in the final shot of this episode, with the Doctor holding a Dalek gun, and the young Davros holding the sonic screwdriver. The perfect summation of the story and its overall message

Missy followed up on her promise to poke Davros in the eye! IMO I think at no point Clara really had any serious chance to turn on Missy. She was already tied and hung up unarmed from the start, while Missy was armed, She wouldn’t have made it out of the sewers or in/out of the citadel without her, and if she shot Missy towards the end, she would have never have convinced 12 that it was her. Don’t trust her of course, but they had to use each other until they were safe

Yeah it's basically Clara being pragmatic and working with her out of necessity, as opposed to actually liking or trusting her

The Doctor & Missie (the Master) have a 1,000 year history - they are rivals, but they have an intense respect for each other - even though they are enemies at times - but Missie is just a drama queen who loves to tease and have fun (which might sometimes mean taking over a planet & enslaving an entire race - ha ha)

I love the addition to Dalek lore of the translator. Even Davros knew he needed extreme safeguards against the Daleks. So through the translator it's a constant reinforcement of hatred. Even if a Dalek wanted out, the translator would make sure that it still screamed exterminate. Anyone from the outside would have to try to kill the Dalek, and the Dalek would have no choice but to kill first.

i get what you said about clara, although missy was the closest to an ally she had on skaro considering the doctor was essentially imprisoned so its only logical clara would try and vibe with her, and missy technically didn’t kill danny, he just unfortunately ended up becoming one of her pawns, but the doctor’s relationship with the master is very complex; yes the master is technically “evil” and they’ve done some pretty f-ed up stuff and of course the doctor doesn’t like that but they’ve known each other for centuries, they were best friends and inseparable at one point (still kind of are tbh). i think it’s important to recognise that both of them have this very complicated love for one another that’s a result of so many years spent together. they really were close at one point and they may have sadly ended up going on *very* different paths but that love is always there (and i know you’ve seen series 10 at this point which i think gives a much clearer insight into why the doctor still cares about the master so much). however impossible it seems, the doctor will never stop wanting the master to just be good. at this point in time they have a shared kind of experience that they have never, and will never, experience with anyone else. they’re two sides of the same coin and completely inextricable.

Missy didn’t actually kill Danny… he died in the car accident… missy did however upload his consciousness to a matrix to make his body cybermen. But had it not been for her doing that, Clara wouldn’t have been able to say goodbye to him.

Are we forgetting that a Dalek begged River for mercy on three occasions in "The Big Bang"?
@EH-bn3kf

The Doctor never saw that. He had already used the vortex manipulator to jump back in time. The concept of mercy would have been in the Dalek programming since it was planted in Davros as a child. We just saw that happening in this episode. Wibbly wobbly timey wimey!

Well, I suppose she feels she doesn’t have a choice, she couldn’t have gotten as far as she did without her. For all her insanity she’s competent and unfortunately knows the Doctor so much better than her, they have essentially thousands of years more history than him and Clara. Yes, it hardly makes sense, the core of their relationship really isn’t built on trust exactly, but Clara has recognized this and she’s risking pretty much every instinct she has in order to save him. She knows that Missy could turn around and kill her but without Missy’s intelligence and her alternative way of travel she never would have gotten to him. She believes it’s up to her to save her friend and right now it’s either Missy or nothing. I suspect what a lot of people mistake for her being “ buddy buddy” with Missy is just her trying not to piss her off because she’s a psycho bitch and anything could happen. In her mind all this is necessary. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Davros didn't have anything to do with snakes in Classic Who. I like Missy alot but I didnt really see the purpose of her being in this story it was however even though it was brief it was nice to see The Master and Davros two arch enemies of The Doctor meet for the first time atleast on screen. Missy didn't kill Danny Pink he was hit by a car but she was however responsible for turning him into a Cyberman he could had returned to Clara but instead sacrificed his life for the boy he accidentally killed when he was in the war. Clara is not the first companion to go inside a Dalek. All the other different Daleks the silver ones with the blue spots were the original Daleks from the 1960s they all were all different generation of Daleks. My main issue with Moffat is he kind of got Davros all wrong in this Davros was made abit of a joke and also he never opens his eyes and Davros having a sense of humour was really out of character for me because he's suppose to be the most evil supreme leader. This story is in the Ok category it's not as great as the previous Dalek stories.

I really like the whole ‘consider the Doctor’ segment but then again overall it just highlights a bigger Moffat problem I have of making death practically meaningless and the Daleks really weak. Nobody ever really stays dead that Moffat ‘kills’. Even side characters have to come back to life. It was even moffats idea in the RTD era to bring Jenny, the doctors daughter back to life at the end for no reason at all Then the daleks, in every episode he’s written that feature Daleks they don’t ever seem to kill anyone, most of them stand there, look menacing, or he puts loads of them on screen for them to look menacing. He then has them spinning around chanting Doctor who? in asylum of the daleks. Tasha lem gets emptied out and turned into a Dalek puppet and she manages to break her programming and come back to life. Even Oswin Oswald technically got to come back as she was just one of the many versions of Clara. And now even extermination’s are escapable if you have a vortex manipulator and a Sonic. It just irks me a bit that if you’re going to use such iconic villains, you sort of need to have them do something and not have their weapons be pointless This episode works well enough as a two parter but ever here the Daleks don’t really actually do anything. In moffats era they’re more of a background villain and it got boring after a while. Oh god give me a slap it’s very late and I’m entering moaning stage send help

Into the Dalek had plenty of deaths. Asylum and this two-parter only have the main cast interacting with Daleks and if you think any of them are gonna die you're fooling yourself. Is characters dying the measure of a good Dalek story? In that case Resurrection is the best Dalek story (which it really isn't). This 'complaint' is ridiculous. We've all seen Dalek, we know how dangerous Daleks are, why does that need to be reinforced every single episode. Moffat's Dalek stories are much more interesting as he does different things with them and explores ideologies and themes which is far more interesting than watching Daleks shooting random people no one cares about for an hour.

@@lucasdolding6924 into the Dalek isn’t a Moffat story. We cared about almost everybody RTD’s Daleks wiped out. They’re definitely a lot more brutal and menacing. Moffats just don’t strike that same fear as we always knew they’d just be standing around not really doing anything

And welcome to the 'Hybrid Prophecy' throughline. Yes, it's new information, and it irritates me to no end. The Doctor has never acted like this prophecy existed before--- Indeed, half of the time he's actively aided hybridization. If they had made it more recent-- maybe had it given to him by the Sisterhood when he was on Karn, it would have been much better.

One thing you're wrong about, imo... Missy didn't kill Danny. If anything Clara killed him by wittering on while he was trying to cross the road. Missy gave Danny what Clara wished him to have: a more significant death.

Missy had this intricate plan for Clara, the Doctor and 'heaven'. Missy wanted Clara with the doctor so she would push him to going to 'heaven/afterlife', so I also thought Missy had a role in Danny's death to make that happen.
