Good review video, didn't realise it was 2yrs already. I wish it were longer! Til I saw your video I'd forgotten most of it & have not rewatched ANY of them. The Flux had lots of promise but it just failed to deliver on so many levels, the specials were even worse.

I think Flux would've been better as a normal series. It kind of works better that way imo. Halloween Apocolypse seems like a typical season opener if you remove a lot of the fluff. War of the Sontarans, Village of the Angels and Legend of the Sea Devils seem like episodes that were meant to be part of the original S13. The Vanquishers would be a normal two part finale. Eve of the Dakeks was originally meant to be much bigger (the space train scene at the start of Power is what it would've been like). Power was originally meant to air at Easter, before it was prompted to being the centenary and so Legend of the Sea Devils was put there instead.

I really believe Covid prevented S13 to be at full potential, which is sad because I think S12 was starting to get somewhere with story lines, and S13 could have been great, with those filler episodes, and probably some episodes that were completely cut from Flux and the specials. Something tell me that a lot of "out of place" scences with Dan, Yas, and Jericho, could have been in an episode of itself.

The Weeping Angels episode was the only one i really liked but agree that the Dan/Yasmin scenes detracted from the story, as did any of the Flux elements. The Sea Devils episode, more than all the others i felt, was clearly hampered by the times in which it was made, a real mess of a story. Interesting to think back, watching your video, to this time 2021 as a dr who fan compared to now. So much more optimism surrounds the show today and there's a sense its moving forward with a clear plan that simply wasnt there back when Flux aired. Btw, love the shirt and scarf ensemble!

I really like series 13 easily the best chibnall Series with some actual great episodes like War of the Sontarans and village of the angels, plus if you add the Specials so it's the same size as an average series it also as Eve of the Daleks and Power of the Doctor, I see series 13 as a series more than one big story the flux was literally just the story arc same as Bad Wolf and The Crack in the Wall before it, if the series was longer (i.e added the specials to the series + 1 more episode) I think this series could have competed with even Russell series as like series 2 and even like this it's better than Series 7 and 9.

FLUX was absolutely brilliant I loved all the threads and concepts and the sheer energy and scope across the 6 chapters too Once Upon Time is my fave of them all it'd just so wild and incredible in so many ways yes I wish we had more chapters and episodes for series 13 but the fact we got that at all is amazing !

I think Flux was very ambitious with so many plot threads but there was absolutely nothing in the preceeding 2 series that indicated Chibnall would be capable of dealing with that. I really liked the idea of a fully Chibnall-penned 6 part serial, I thought it'd bring in some broadchurch style payoff, but it really didn't

exactly! we know he’s capable of a story like that because of broadchurch, so you’d think this would’ve been the perfect thing for him, but it just didn’t payoff at all. maybe because this was meant to be a normal series first? maybe he should’ve scrapped it completely and started from scratch for something like this?
