This is really cool! The Howell theme is great, but it did lose the creep factor that the original had. This take on it has brought that creep factor right back, while still having all the core elements of the Howell theme. Great job!
@ReversedPolarity Жыл бұрын
I was actually going to comment on that aspect but I think it adds a different kind of creepiness to it. I agree, it's not as chilling as the original, but there's a horror vibe to it almost. Great stuff for sure.

It feels like the original theme but it has a sense of dread and urgency with the heartbeat stuff. I like it!

@TRDSDIRI I know the fifth Doctor's original intro and outro by heart (no pun intended) and I never heard any constant or prominent heartbeats such as these, but I think these sounds may be an overplayed, lower-pitch version of the synth beats played during the logo scene to create a different atmosphere, though I could be wrong about it.
@ReversedPolarity8 ай бұрын
@TRDSDIRI Yeah, those are the beats I was talking about earlier. It's during the logo scene if I'm not mistaken, but they still sound a bit synthy and somewhat high-pitched in the original, though I understand your point. You can hear them in the aired version too, albeit a bit softened.

@TRDSDIRI kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5jRk5V7fdqXpc0 I tried to listen to some old vinyl samples and the thumps were kind of soft still, probably due to lossy audio pickup. I also listened to your samples, the first felt pretty much the same as before, but the second sample has those loud clear thumps in a part of the song that's like an intermission between beats, but I think I've never heard it crispy clear like that... I know that the thumping was always there, but the only time I can hear it properly throughout the entire song with that much bass is usually when someone changes the bass strength a little or adds some reverb into it. In this fan version, I think it's the clearest I've heard it because they isolated the kicks a lot. I've only heard a couple of fan versions that sound like this, because the original theme always seems to hide the heartbeats within the stings and the main beats, making it appear less strong. But I think you're probably right too because I've always thought I heard two slightly different versions of the tune for years and believed it was just my ears playing tricks on me. I don't own a vinyl so it's difficult for me to say...

I don't know if this was intentional or not, but this kind of feels like an evolution/modernization of the kind of stuff you'd find on early Whomix. Like obviously it's basically a straight Howell recreation, but it's got this eerie, almost unsettling quality to it that you'd find a lot in that like 2003-2006 period of fan remixes. Either way, really well done!
