Looking back, I pretty much agree sadly. I didn’t mind the start of Jodie Whittaker, it had some issues but it still felt like the show. As soon as they did the whole reboot/rewrite thing, that completely wrecked the lore of the show imo.

@@hessflix Chibnall was a terrible choice to take over from Moffat, and after a few awful episodes I couldn't watch it any more, and that's NOT down to Whittaker, she was great casting, she just had terrible writing so as far as I'm concerned the Doctor died when Capaldi left (or was pushed).

In Classic Who the Doctor never ever cried. RTD changed the Doctor and humanised him. The Classic Doctors also never flirted with anyone. This made it more convincing that the Doctor was an alien. RTD is to blame and Moffat with the Christmas special as you suggest would have been influenced by RTD to keep the Doctor over emotional. The plot also makes the Doctor look incompetent due to the fact that humans are tampering with the time lines and he doesn’t care about the consequences. In the past the Doctor would be looking to close that hotel down. Disney Who for me is a bad parody. I agree with your criticisms.

Thanks for your comment mate I really appreciate what you said and I really agree! I feel like even Eccleston or Tennant era Doctors would have tried to shut down the time hotel, the whole thing is really frustrating how it is now! Having watched the classic series (although only as a kid growing up) I didn’t mind the humanisation in the early reboot years 2005 - 2010 but from then on it got really frustrating, and I can see how for people growing up with Classic WHO it would be even more annoying!). I hope one day the show gets a better direction with a show runner who respects the original vision of the character much more. Well said mate!

@ You’re welcome and thank you for your comments. I can only hope that new writers will eventually take over who will respect what worked and give us good science fiction stories. It needs to go back to a more sinister tone with a more stoic resilient Doctor.

RTD said in an interview that "of course' after the 14th recovered and chilled etc the character would be healed "but that will last a bout 30 minutes"... because obviously. A psychologically completely health character isn't interesting. I don't understand why you would even remember the 14th Doctor's "therapy" thing let alone care about it? It was clearly a way of giving a reason for the bigeneration which really was in order to have past Doctors be portrayed by the original ageing actors. He doesn't *actually* get told he's mansplaining- he tells Joy she's being "mansplained" by the suitcase and she says, understandably, "oh I thought I was getting mansplained by you" - he replies, "honey, the Doctor's in the room, it's mainspain central." It's not really the "you're mansplaining" kind line people have mistaken it to be. It's typical Moffat arch dialogue/ bickering between a male and female lead. Yes, "mansplain" isn't a helpful term for most people but it pretty well describes what the Doctor does whether they're a he or a she. The crying... well it's not really crying is it? Often a single tear runs down his cheek- he's not bawling or sobbing or even changing his behaviour particularly. He's just passionate. It's not "weakness" or whatever the issue is that some people have with the tears. I agree it's a bit overused- but Donna cried in nearly evrey episode of S4 and no one seemed to notice (I did- thought it was excessive). But I don't get why it's an issue. Sorry about the grumpy vibes- know what that feels like. Hope you enjoy S2 more!

Actually actors should not cry a lot. They should not laugh at their own jokes. They should not have sex all the time. It's what separates melodrama from drama or good drama from things like soap operas. When characters cry or laugh at their own jokes or have sex it forces the audience to accept the writing instead of choosing to accept the writing. But also I don't think Doctor who is really a romantic drama. And in this episode the doctor has not spent a lot of time with joy. He has spent a lot of time with Anita and maybe if Anita was in danger you could justify him crying because he spent a whole year with her.

I've watched Dr Who since Tom Bakers first series and I've seen plenty of dross along the way but recent Who has become insufferable. It was poor in the past because of a lack of effort or budget but these days it has a great budget but it's making a conscious choice to be cringeworthy. It's such a shame because Disney will undoubtedly bail out since the viewing figures have tanked and the show will probably never see the likes of these budgets again but a decent showrunner could have done so much with that money and platform.
@hessflix

I agree mate!! I'm a big fan of the classic series too, and it is really dissapointing to see a good budget squandered like this, imagine the potential the show could have had under a great showrunner with a better vision, you're so right!

Not only do I agree with you, but also I just Subscribed. Also, if you are going to make the Star of Bethlehem and you are doing a show about time travel, you really should get the year right. According toi the Gospel of Matthew, the Star appeared during the reign of Herod the Great. Herod died in 4 BC. BC, before the year 1 AD.

@hessflix Ай бұрын
Thanks so much mate I really appreciate it!!! 🙏 And yes that's such a great point, I was wondering that too with the actual historical date of the star's appearance. The lack of care for details like that in a show that I thought was meant to teach you about history is pretty disapointing! And the giant text that comes up with each location and time period just feels so smug to me hahah it irrationally annoys me even more

@@hessflix They really messed up with that 1 AD. With all their political correctness, they should know that the PC Culture no longer uses BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini- The Year od the Lord), but instead use BCE (Before the Common Era) and CE (Common Era). How dare they! :)

@hessflix He clearly believes in all of the same woke nonsense that RTD believes and has stated so in interviews. He too has blamed fans for not liking his doctor or the show. He is never going to challenge any of the bad decision and his acting is also over the top, out of place and average at best.

2:47 - this just blatantly isn't true. They are called monsters in NUMEROUS episodes in this new era. 3:29 - that's true and then in his fourteenth incarnation he spent an undisclosed amount of time with the Nobles and that lead to this incarnation of the Doctor who is a bit more human and more emotionally open. 6:07 - That's the point of Joy's character, she's incredibly lonely so she talks to random things to try to make herself feel less alone. And I do not understand the complaints of this Doctor being more emotional and crying more, that is the point, he's more emotionally open, he wears his hearts on his sleeve and he'll shed tears for someone he's just met that dies like the Silurian manager and losing someone he's known for a while like Ruby. That's who this Doctor is, whereas past Doctors tended to bottle up their emotions most of the time this Doctor doesn't and I think that's incredibly refreshing! And after watching this video I've come to the conclusion that if you really just don't enjoy Doctor Who at all now then perhaps it's best to stop watching and maybe come back when there's a new showrunner and/or Doctor because that's the thing with Doctor Who, it changes every few years and perhaps it'll become something you enjoy more again eventually.

Well I explained this elsewhere but it's an acting choice. Crying means that you think that the audience is buying the writing. And that's just an arrogant position. It's why it's left to the end of the show. Also, I don't think that Doctor Who is a romantic drama. I think we're supposed to suspend our disbelief so we can enjoy all the adventures he goes on and the bizarre aliens he meets and sci-fi and so forth. It's not a realistic (romantic) drama. Otherwise, no one would do this.

@@AnnoyingCritic-is7rp Actually it's not an acting choice, it's a writing choice, RTD has explained that he wanted to make this Doctor more open with his emotions, that's part of why Ncuti was cast because he is so good at expressing his emotions.

Sorry for the delay I was on some sort of KZbin “cool down” and uh anyway yeah. Sad to say it. Classic Who was just not my think I’m not a big fan of that time period as a whole anyway. Disney was the only thing that stood out for me. My family friends little sister and father and huge doctor who fans. It’s David Tennant yeah? Honestly to me 20th century doctors and 21st century doctors respectively all blur together in my mind. The doctors themselves were/are just so annoying. Like I get it, he doesn’t know how to be human or doesn’t care but oh my gaud! I just *_do not_* have the patience for his k00ky one-liners or “quirky boi” antics. I do like the human reacts to past/future time travel trope. (Sometimes) but that’s about it. It’s just not my thing. It’s just too zany for me. I need something more grounded in reality. (Or plausible reality) I’m more of a star Trekkie.
