Doctor Who was meant to be revived by David Tennant and Russel T Davies to lead into Ncuti Gatwa's run. Well that didn't work. After 3 specials that showcased what we are in for in the future, not many will be looking forwards to the future. An eye opening run that surprised even me at how blunt the BBC were willing to be, we added on terrible plots just to put the icing on the cake. But don't worry, we're still running the articles and slurs that you would expect from modern entertainment. And rather than resurrecting the series in 3 specials, we've put so many nails into the IP, it doesn't matter if its resurrected in the future, you can't escape from this. But what do you think? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

I worked at a nightclub while I was in college and it was a pretty standard nightclub; pay to get in, overpriced drinks, loud club music. That last part was key; club music. Top 40, dance music, some hip hop. New manager came in and decided that “club music” wasn’t what this club needed and he told the DJ to start playing, for lack of a better term, tribal music. The club was dead within 2 weeks and the new manager didn’t understand why no one was coming to the club anymore. Same situation here, the “new management” changed a core element of why people enjoyed Doctor Who and is now standing there going, “I did good. Right?”

How is a black doctor going to do anything in literally 99% of the historical locations they're gonna visit - mostly cause of budget restraints. A moot point I guess, seeing as this episode was designed to finish the Dr Who story. The real Dr Who got his happy ending and the story is over. Gatwa is an alt-Doctor with a different franchise. @@jaxr2958 What I'm "on about" is this was a very popular show until the people making the show starting caring more about "representation" and "the message" versus good story telling. I'll give you a great example. Take the episode during the Whitaker run where they guy went back in time to stop Montgomery bus incident. A great story would have been they never figure out what was going on until they failed, only they don't fail. You have the companions bemoaning how the world will now be so much worse for the Doctor to tell them to take heart. "Because true movements can't be stopped, at most delayed, and only by a little." You then she her rush across the street to alert an older African American lady who has left her purse on the bench at the bus stop. She thanks the Doctor for making sure she has it when the bus driver calls out, "Come on now, Miss Rosa. Can't be holding up the line too long." Take your L and move on.

It was a fondly remembered and missed British institution in 2004, and any competent producer could have brought that up to date. Rwanda... has so much to do with Gallifrey. "People liked Mace Windu" Yes they did. "But hated it when Finn picked up a Lightsaber" No they didn't. It makes more sense to me to view the Gatwa line as the ability to turn the show into full-on science fantasy (as if it wasn't already by the Capaldi era) while viewers can still think the original science-fiction line is also still concurrently running someplace. Given that Tenant is the official 10th and 14th Doctors somebody could regenerate into him as many times as they like, so story-wise you get nothing from having him around growing marrows somewhere.

Since 2005 I honestly don't get why people thought RTD was a talented writer. A lot of the success of the comeback came from the established concept of Dr Who created by his predecessors, combined with the desire from the public to see that institution back on TV. RTD's scripts had crass, crude innuendo, sexual jokes, soap opera dialogue, companions lusting after the Doctor, villains who all sing and dance in a flamboyant way that they never did in classic Who. That's NOT who the Toymaker or Master is.

But yeah, I wasn't a big fan of some of his writing choices, such as inflating the importance of the Companions. I remember he annoyed some fans in the lead up to the 2005 debut by saying he was going to fix the Companions and give them a feminist makeover. I was just about ready to argue that, by RTD's logic, that means there are sixteen or seventeen Doctors now wandering across time and space? Minimum, then there's however many regenerations the Timeless Child created... and then I went, "Hang on! Every regeneration of the Doctor is right there! In David Tennant! He doesn't leave a body behind when he 'dies', he reuses the energy of his previous form to build a new one!" So, Ncuti (Sho-tee) is a new creation and most definitely NOT the doctor., since Tennant is still alive. Really quick slap dash fix? He's the new Master, with a heaping helping of the Toymaker having jump started his new existence. Boom, go from there, off and running, since he has a Tardis of his own... Pretty sure RTD wanted Ncuti's BBC, and that's why he only had to audition 'once'...

Episode One: let’s have a 20 year old actor play an underage character that has undergone life changing treatment, then state that trans people are spiritually superior, hermaphroditic gods. Episode Two: Out of 5 characters we have to race swap one of them to meet our 20% non-white quota (hat tip to Az for pointing that out). Oh, and the Timeless Children is still canon. Episode Three: “You won a prize, honey”. Nuff said. RIP Dr Who.

I like my boyfriend's idea that Matt Smith was the last doctor and he died in Christmas. the writers decided to retcon it by giving him another 12 regenerations for no reason other than to put the show on life support at that point

Imagine if Gatwa was a woman how awkward those promo shots with RTD would be, and having Gatwa spend most of the episode in underwear. Definitely a big part of his hiring was that RTD hopes to bang him.

Everytime I ssee the pic of Davies with Gatwa, I swear he got the part by sleeping with him.

Your mention of morality reminds me of Tom Baker saying how he had to be aware not to be seen swearing, drinking or smoking ie an actor who realised the importance of his role.
