I've hated all the ideas of a doctor who move personally so far. However, if Russell wrote it I'd be super hyped. He is such an amazing writer and anything, anything at all he does for doctor who will get me so excited now.

As long as it's better than those Dalek movies with Peter Cushing (may he rest in peace) or the 1996 television movie, I'm all for it.

There's already been a Doctor Who movie! The Day of the Doctor/50th Anniversary episode was shown in cinemas worldwide in 3D as well as on TV simultaneously! That's as close to a big screen movie we'll ever get!

Well, that was a TV episode shown in cinemas, not quite the same, but I see what you're getting at. They're referring to an actual, made for cinemas movie with a Hollywood budget.

Forgetting completely about the 1995 Doctor Who movie. Although it was terrible, there's still a film.

Again, that was a 'TV Movie', like The Day of the Doctor, simply a feature length episode. It was never even shown in cinemas and certainly not shot in widescreen or with a Hollywood budget.

There's also the Peter Cushing films but that was made made independent film with no Hollywood involvement. And the TV movie was made in 1996 not 1995.

SP Murphy But that wasn't canon and we want something that is canon and sticks to the Doctor Who universe. With the blessings of the BBC under the BBC Films banner and of course from Steven Moffat and the team.

Moffat won't be happy! lol

It was intended as a joke that Moffat won't be happy. Of course he would be happy, why wouldn't he? I am aware that RTD has been asked many times to write an episode for Doctor Who and not just for the 11th Doctor but also the 12th Doctor. If a movie was to be made RTD would be one of the best options to write one and knows the Doctor Who Universe very well to do so. It depends on Moffat and the team but also the BBC to give rights to create movie in the first place. Do you remember what happened the last time someone tried to create a Doctor Who movie? Didn't go well with us Whovians. But after seeing what impact the 50th had in cinemas even though it was mainly for television, a movie would do extremely well as long as it was canon and with whoever is the current Doctor and possibly companion.
