You missed the point: Christmas is supposed to be about human connections and heart, so the whole Anita thing was very important for the whole episode and for the development of the Doctor. Also the way he opened the door/seal with fourdimensional timey-whimey stuff was a fun solution for the problem. I don't see any issue with that scene either ... isn't that what we are here for when watching Doctor Who? Fun timey-whimey stuff?

Fun fact: The Star being created is it's own bootstrap paradox. Since it gives rise to Christianity...the same thing that Villengard profits the most from as the church is it's biggest client, so creating the star ensures their biggest customer exists and they make bank on it.

18:20 I actually like that element of it. I enjoy when episodes of this show are smaller in scale, in that sense where a lot of time and thought is dedicated to making comparatively tiny things happen. It lets the story feel “big” without needing to force the subject matter to be all that grand.

I thought the episode was beautiful and hit the head on the nail with making the statements it needed. There have been plenty of doctor who episodes of doctor who that i think have been worse though. My main hate is people just have hated on Ncuti though for him being gay, black, too emotional, etc. They have said the doctor basically should never appear weak. People also just hate because they want the show to be exactly like the old doctors. But there are also people who hated tenant, smith, capaldi, etc. An now think they are some of the greatest.

I love you guys. I feel like you missed the point of this episode. It was one of my favorite Christmas episodes and reminded me of the Dickens episode in some ways. Loved that Vangaard was defeated because what they used created something far more than it expected and that the joy of Christmas and the hearts of all the people it captured became the Star. And led by Joy, created and brought the joy and hope of Christmas to all. We still have mavity and we have to remember that the impossible is becoming possible still. We will see how it all plays out in the future.

Generally, a fun story. I liked Anita more than Joy. She made the whole story, imo. Some of the statements in the story really didn't make sense, like the Doctor making a friend. He makes plenty of friends. If anything, he makes too many. For the most part, they leave him. The argument with himself was horrible too. I don't get the "funny door" thing. At one point, they say it's a cupboard? Is this a British thing? Ours just go to adjoining rooms. They're not perceived as "funny." There's not really a mystique around them. I'm also not Christian, so the ending is just predictable meh.

@@the_chiefs_fanatic They're not saying they're being forced. They're saying the quality is diminishing. Last thing I heard it was permissible to comment on things. Simply accepting a change for the worse in any endeavour (artistic, social, political etc) because commenting on it may be seen as negative is a surefire way to race to the bottom. I had high hopes for Ncuti's Doctor but his tenure is being hamstrung by some bloody facile writing by RTD. I too think it is going downhill but I will keep watching because I want to be proven wrong. I've been a Doctor Who fan since I can remember (sometime during the Pertwee era) and it's had ups and downs ever since - some seasons have been great, with shitty individual episodes, some seaons have been shitty with individual episodes that were brilliant. I've welcomed every new Doctor with high hopes and expectations and rejoiced in their good points and lamented their low points. Being told to stop watching rather than pass comment is insulting and reductive. I hope things improve, and will keep watching whether they do or not, but don't dare suggest that abandoning something I love rather then accept it is not perfect is a good solution.
