Doctor Who Christmas Special Review - Joy To The World is the BBC and Disney+ team up to destroy Christmas. Now I never expected The Doctor to destroy Bethlehem by giving a star an origin story, but here we are. Although the 8 critics who reviewed it enjoyed the episode, is it any surprise when it's undermining the religious Christian holiday of Christmas? This episode is full of the message, seemingly put in at random. But even without that, this is NOT a good episode. Which while expected in 2024 Doctor Who, you would have thought Russel T Davies and Steven Moffat could have put more effort into a Christmas Story. But what do you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

Just FYI, I have never met anyone, religious or otherwise, who could credibly explain to me why a being who could speak the universe into existence would need or want to wait billions of years for the universe to organize itself. Anyone who claims that the Big Bang is an analogy for God isn't actually religious, they're just people who haven't thought through their own terrible premise. Rather like the people who make current day Doctor Who.

Yeah, it took them DECADES of this series (literally decades!!), until they tweaked and updated it enough to finally get me to watch it and truly enjoy it. And then... just ONE episode to kill it again. Of course, I TRIED to suspend higher disbelief, but their purposeful and deliberate destruction of this series really solidified my indifference once again. IF one truly wants to watch again, there's about five, good VFX filled seasons and story line that will always "work." But this chum?! Not good for bottom-feeders, really... They can keep it.

@@tgiacin435 As much as I like to rag on RTD, in his defense, the series has flip-flopped on what the sonic screw-driver can and cannot do. Its first introduction to the series had it function like a regular screw driver using sound vibrations to screw and unscrew a common screw on a gun holster. When it was re-introduced, it only worked on electronic devices, and since then it has become more and more of a magical bullshit device (or deus ex machina if you want to use the correct term) until it was destroyed during the Peter Davidson years because the writers saw how much of a crutch it had become. RTD's take on the sonic wand was... dumb and lazy.... to put it diplomatically, and his use of the device just shows that his is not a good writer, nor ever was. Yet the seeds of abuse were in the classic series. Jon Pertwee using the sonic screwdriver to ignite marsh gas, for example.

In Dot and Bubble the Crying Man and his Beard end up bickering about which one of them saw the Handsome Guy first and waste time when he could of been starting to unlock the door. Then later is dies because the dot thing turns up. Clear observation is that if he hadn't been standing around being objectified by the Crying Man he would have more than likely been able to open the door in time. Conclusion? Ncuti's character got him killed by allowing himself to get pointlessly distracted. Worse Doctor Ever Plus. (also is it any wonder the survivors brush him off at the end? We know by the sub count one of the characters claims to have just how many people lived in that city. How many did the Crying Man manage to rescue? A dozen maybe? In their eyes the Crying Man is UTTERLY USELESS and will more than likely get them all killed. So even when the BBC and RTD are trying to make a story about racism they can't get it right. Spoiler RTD? If you have to explain the message in your story via a secondary source you have failed as a story teller.)

EDIT: It seems people didn't get my comment. I'll preface with that I think recent Doctor Who is incredibly mid, to get out any "wow, you'll defend anything the BBC does" accusations right away. I'll admit that BBC has a history of changing history to fit their beliefs. But it seems you people look into every little thing and assume it's some race message. Like saying that because a different programme by the BBC says something this means this specific moment in this programme by the BBC has any significance is like saying that The Lion King and Peter Pan are in the same universe because they're both by Disney.

So, I’m guessing that the show didn’t even spend a moment to recap what the lizard man actually was for the benefit of newer fans or those that simply forgot? That was a Silurian. They aren’t aliens at all, but Dinosaurs. A sapient species of dinosaur that went into hibernation when the asteroid approached Earth. Still others built space Arks as a way to preserve not just their species but all dinosaurs on another planet. There’s probably a lot more but that’s what I’m familiar with. I think by the 26th century the Silurians had awakened from their millions of years of hibernation and successfully integrated into human society. I hope so. I’ve always liked the thought of the sci fi concept of a race of sentient dinosaurs surviving somehow and with both humans and them being wise enough and calm enough to live together sharing the planet of our mutual origin. Oops, lol, I went on a bit of a tangent there. Sorry about that. But yes, dinosaur, not alien.

-Russell T Davies put together a Christmas special that acts as a middle finger to Christmas, Christ, and Christians? That's nothing new. That Moffat wrote it is the odd part. He at least seemed to like Christmas. -Remember when the Doctor had an iconic outfit that you immediately recognized as his (her) Doctor? Now he just wears whatever so you don't know if Gatwa is supposed to be playing the Doctor or a ballet dancer. -I know the Doctor doesn't usually get along with his past and future regenerations, but this is the first time I've seen him not get along with HIS OWN REGENERATION! You must really hate yourself, 15th* Doctor. (The asterisk is because the numbering system is a mess thanks to the Timeless Child and to a lesser extent the War Doctor.) -Doctor, you've fought more Daleks than I have but that's not the part that's armed! -The only thing you can tell about hotels I've stayed at is I didn't have much money but could find someplace decent or I really wanted to try one with a kitchenette the year the hotel I wanted to stay at was booked. Also not all of them had the door to another reality. Or the room next door, whichever is less stupid. -So one of the hotel rooms leads to a place where you can be eaten by a T-Rex? Who runs this hotel, InGen? No wonder this show is falling apart. The burning woman is the only "Joy" in this series anymore.

Don't worry, this is an alternative timeline where the 12th doctor didn't die and we get this sh*t, in the proper time line the 12th doctor decided to give up, mainly because Clara and the girl who played aria are running around the universe, trying to save it, on top of bill and her lover running around the universe as well trying to save it.

And that the sonic can balance a 6 foot pole over whatever its manipulating. I wouldn't mind, but why would you use the sonic for that anyway? There are 1,000 gadgets he could have whipped together in less time than it takes him to name them, and instead, they literally wave a lore-break in your face. It does dense solids and electronics, and anything softer than wood is where the magic ends. Apparently, that's too much of a restriction for them these days. They can't even tolerate a hierarchy of materials.

People are just mad that they let Boris make them look like utter mugs. They could've had family and friends round too. No way they'd be putting people in jail for breaking the rules but people were cowards, I was guilty of it too.
@PeterCamberwick2 күн бұрын
@@Adam-sd2ow Yup. I'm still mad, and I can't let it go. I didn't give a crap about their stupid rules. I did what I wanted. But I saw people around me becoming terrified and turning on their friends and families. I saw people not being able to see their old relatives in the last days of their lives, and instead of going to my best mate's mum's funeral, I had to stand on the pavement as the hearse went buy, just to show I was there for my friend. I couldn't actually go to the church to properly be there for him, or say goodbye to his mum who was a lovely person. And all the time, I was thinking, if we all just had the sense and the balls to say no, f--k your stupid and inhumane rules, we could have stopped the madness right there and then. Overall, I didn't give a crap about Boris and his parties, or labour when it turned out they were doing it to. I was just mad at everyone for not seeing through the BS. Then the BBC has the gall to put this in to the show, when they were majorly complicit in all of it.

That’s unlikely to happen due to the ethnicity and sexuality of the actor imagine how big the mainstream media and the public are going to be in uproar. Tho those who dislike him and the version wouldn’t mind but in at instance they wouldn’t be in the Majority . And to be clear I dislike this version because of the poor performance of the actors and quality of the writing . But even I can see that is the likely outcome.

Yeah, and in the context of their own show, it makes absolutely no sense. Yes the Doctor is a man (loosely speaking), but if he's the only person in the entire hotel / planet, who knows what's causing all this, he should explain it! ... But then, who is surprised that the BBC can't even make sense of their own bullshit? LOL

@bricelory95342 күн бұрын
And they can't even use the term properly. It was supposed to mean when a man overexplained a very obvious thing to a woman, on the assumption they couldn't understand it. But in this context, there's literally no way a random contemporary human would have any clue as to what was happening. So now it just means "when a man explains anything, no matter how important or pertinent, to a woman" - and this is why I hate modern pop culture. They can't even keep their own values straight and it just boils down to "women do everything and know everything, men are worthless"

Christopher Ecclestone's the best. John Hurt would be if he'd replaced Peter Capaldi. In Capaldi's case, I love his stories but I hated him because I felt like I was watching an outright villain half the time. If he was playing the Valeyard on a redemption arc I would have been satisfied but I don't think Capaldi or Steven Moffat intended for him to be Michael Jayston's second incarnation.
