As you've surely noticed, when I'm playing back a clip from the serial, I usually shrink it and crop the video within a larger image (1:01). I only do this in order to bypass KZbin's Content ID system, as I find it less distracting then the other methods I've tried. It's not perfect, but it (usually) allows me to show the clips needed to highlight the points I'm making. Just thought I'd make that clear, because I know it might be a bit odd to some viewers. :)

Yeah, I noticed that in some of your other videos. I really like it actually its a very unique way of avoiding copyright

Love this episode! Mostly because Hagbourne , the village it is shot in was my playground growing up. It's a beautiful village. Remains mostly unchanged to this day

That stone bottle of ginger beer is surprisingly important. Also, shooting with a finger is almost Auton! On a side note: Tom Baker picked up a nasty throat/chest infection from hiding in an old (but real) water butt or pond, can't remember which, full of stagnant water.

Not sure what it was about this show but in the 70-80’s it was always sad when a companion left the show. Never got this in another show or later in the shows history

8:01 that cheshire cat grin on Android! 4th Doctor is terrifying and yeah whilst Harry and John Benton were a bit wasted I did enjoy the really nasty SCRAPPY fight between 4 and Android!4 it didnt look fake either it looked like a proper brutal scrap

That eye patch thing never made sense to me. The only way that ruse works is if he never took the patch off to shower, scratch, or any of a hundred other minor things that would have spoiled that part of their narrative. Still, great episode as you said, but nothings perfect.

Rele enjoy parts 1 & 2, part 3 is ok, but by part 4 i get so uninterested and fed up. Early episodes are really creepy and enjoyable! I found the small village they filmed in on google earth, ‘walked’ around the area with the monument the doctor gets tied to, and some1 had a homemade dalek in there garden😂 7/10
@DalamReviews3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that makes sense. The story strays a little further away from the creepy atmosphere further into it, which was one of my favorite parts. Also, I love that about the Dalek!

I recall watching this one for the first time 40 years ago at around the age of 8 wondering what the crap is going on for the first half. Very well done.

This is one of my favourite stories. It's always been overshadowed due to the sheer quality of Dr Who during this period but there's much to enjoy in The Android Invasion, especially in the first two episodes. Wonderful location work too - East Hagbourne in Oxfordshire.

One of my biggest LOLs of the Tom Baker era: “Don’t shoot Benton, I’m one of you!” *BANG BANG* “Satisfied?”

Unlike a lot of people, I LOVE The Android Invasion. It’s my favourite of the season. Because unlike the rest of the stories in this set (all of which I love). I knew nothing about Android Invasion. Which meant it was a really fun surprise and I don’t think it gets as weak as people say it does.

Season 13 - Best Doctor Who season ever. Not any single story is a dud, and most people consider The Android Invasion the weakest already.

I always forget that this story is written by Terry Nation. Pretty much for the entire show, with the exception of The Keys of Marinus & this story, every story he’s written have been Dalek stories. As I normally do when I write a comment on your videos, I have a fun music fact for you. This story’s music is by house composer Dudley Simpson and as I said before, despite being the shows longest running composer, not many Simpson scores fully survive (with there only being 4 to my knowledge) and while this isn’t 1 of the 4 scores, 50% of it does exist as Part’s 3 & 4’s were accidentally archived by The BBC Radiophonic Workshop along with the Special Sounds. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5PUnJqoZ7OKiNk While it’s not my favourite of Simpson’s scores, I love the music that opens Part 3, whenever the noise that accompanies the androids sometimes, the music when The Doctor & The Android Doctor fight and the music right at the end of the story which subtly plays the 4th Doctor’s theme (which you will be hearing a lot more as the series continues). It’s very atmospheric and while I personally think (with a few exceptions) that a lot of latter Simpson scores aren’t as memorable as they used to be in the 60s & early 70s, you cannot deny that none of his scores don’t fit the story and are extremely atmospheric & don’t draw attention away from what’s happening on screen (like how I sometimes felt Murray Gold did). The music accompanies and helps emphasis the visuals, just like the direction or the lighting and without it, the story would certainly really be lacking in it’s tone & atmosphere

I definitely agree about this score fitting within the serial and not distracting from the events, it suited the atmosphere they crafted, especially earlier in the story. You're absolutely right here, and listening back to the bits of music you mentioned, I do quite like them--especially the part which accompanies the androids.

I think the way John benton and Harry Sullivan left in this story was a disappointment

Great review. It's good, yet unremarkable. Well paced, Elizabeth and Tom good as ever, but they don't weigh-up this story so it doesn't compare favourably to the rest of the series, which is great. Seeds of Doom is coming up and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts :D

That's an entirely fair take, and I see where you're coming from. Also, I'm glad to hear that! I also look forward to discussing Seeds of Doom, hopefully that review will be out on the 29th

I think this story shgould ahev had Lethbridge Stewart in it the replacement Commanding officer Colonel Faraday was crap and also the way John Benton no longer a Sergeant but a Warrant officer class1 and Harry Sullivan leave the series in this tale is terrible and neither man ever reappears in Dr Who again and I wonder if in retrospect if both Harry and John benton should have both been bumped off and gone out of Dr Who in a big blaze of glory

Easily the weakest of the season for me, but I still love it

Hated this episode. Typically, if you have Tom Baker and Elizabeth Sladen you get a good story , but not this time. Extremely boring . ! Worst entry on the best season on Dr who. Yawn !
