Throughout Doctor Who, The Doctor's adventures have affected a lot of random people for better or worse. Few side characters show this as perfectly as Clive Finch from the Series 1 episode Rose, the focus of today's lore video!

Clive is the best example of the cosmic horror undercurrent doctor who has. The ripples of a time god affecting anyone caught in its wake. It’s the switch from joy at seeing his theories confirmed, to the grim realisation that if it really is “all true”… he’s bout to die. Gets gunned down in front of his wife and kid and the Doctor flies away to listen to Britney Spears and watch his planet explode.

Torchwood did this really well with adrift and out of time those episodes are S tier whoniverse imo adrift is just heartbreakingly tragic and scary

That's not Cosmic horror That's plane Science fiction He died Because of an alien invasion the doctor had nothing to do with it

I will say, in the Doctor’s defense, the Autons were already on Earth and already invading, so it would have been a matter of time before more people were killed, had the Doctor not intervened. And in most instances, besides when the writers are feeling lazy, deaths are fixed points that can’t be reversed. Plus, it’s been implied the doctor can sense fixed point events.

Not gonna lie -- I was scared at first that this was a video about how a real-person's life was ruined by his involvement with Doctor Who, and this was bolstered by the fact that Clive (in the picture used in the thumbnail) looks a bit like Keff McCulloch, the Remembrance of the Daleks composer, who did supposedly get some seriously negative feedback at the time. Since he seemed like a really nice guy in the behind-the-scenes clips (and I would argue much of his music was underappreciated), I was worried it was that his involvement caused much more bad than good in his life. On the note of the actual video, this is a solid deep-dive into a connection I had no idea existed!

I really like clive. I don't often want to be friends with or sit down and have a chat with characters, but clive is certainly one character I would. I really appreciate his existence, ass well as linda from love and monsters, because it gives the universe so much depth and it stops the companions from feeling too special in the universe because they're not the only ones who know about the doctor. people know that there's something bigger happening, even if the wider world won't discuss it, and it's relegated to the world of conspiracy theories. and the fact that he got a backstory fleshed out in expanded media? even better. I love when characters get stuff like that

Wow, thanks for this. I've been a Who fan since the 2005 era, but know little of the massive expanded WHO-Verse. I just saw some comics featuring Matt Smith's Doctor and the crew of Star Trek's Enterprise - D - team up to fight Cybermen. . . . so with that said. . . what's considered "Canon" these days?
@TheSmart-CasualGamer
@TheSmart-CasualGamer Жыл бұрын
A common phrase used is "Doctor Who has no canon", which in a way is true. As there's so bloody much of it (TV episodes, the Cushing Movies, Big Finish, VNAs, Titan Comics, all the other comics, novels and audios, and so and so forth), and contradictions are all over the place, there's no way to decide on what's canonical and what isn't. Not even what's been shown on TV is necessarily true, as things change under different writers. In other words, anything you want to be canon, can be.
