@@Jim_The_Fish i remember on my first rewatch of s5 a few years ago i was laughing my ass off at 11 going back and forth from the museum to stone henge tryna make the bootsrap paradox he created all line up... it's so dumb, I love it. Moffat's time travel seems to make boostrap paradoxes not paradoxes, and instead just a natural thing that arises from time travel existing. It's an explanation that works well enough for me to not see his writing as a fault but as a feature.

This episode made me think of enemies that have faced the Doctor multiple times. Anytime they see any version of him that's not 11, they sigh and mutter, "at least its not the one with the bowtie...that one's a madman."

Here we are, my personal favourite series finale. It really feels like Moffat wanted to write himself in a corner on this one. Not only does he pull off one of the best cliffhangers in the modern era, but he follows it up with what I consider the best resolution to a New Who finale. There’s still lots of good finales to come though
@nocturne83335 жыл бұрын
GhostPlay, agreed, he’s definitely my favourite writer for the modern series, I love almost all of his episodes but this is my absolute favourite.

GhostPlay, Hell Bent definitely gets way too much hate. It’s not my favourite episode, but I appreciate what Moffat was doing. It’s not awful by any means, I’d say it was pretty good overall
@zorion92945 жыл бұрын
Nocturne Yeah, people say hell bent was badly written, it was great writing, just the choices he were trying to convey were controversial, what he went for was executed amazingly
@nocturne83335 жыл бұрын
Zorion, exactly, people often complain about the Doctor shooting the general, but he’s shot a lot of people in Classic who. I honestly don’t know what else they could have done with Gallifrey, everything would seem like a letdown after the buildup from The Day of the Doctor.

This is one of my all-time favourite episodes as it's one of those which chucks a whole load of different aliens from the entire Who-niverse at us. Special mention to the appearances of even some aliens from the spin-offs (Torchwood & The Sarah Jane Adventures). River also name-checked a load of aliens from the Classic era too. Also, I loved the in-joke with the Doctor initially thinking the Cybermen sound like the Daleks. They're both voiced by the same guy, Nicolas Briggs (who also voices various other aliens too like the Judoon!).

Because when she was growing up with Amy as her best friend or something she already saw the little tardis figurine and stuff but when she saw them in this episode on the desk she acted like she's never seen them before and that the doctor left her with quite the obsession as a child. Also you would think she would already remember that her mom liked romans or pandoras box growing up..

If you're gonna work backwards, there are two ways that make sense to me as a taster: watch one serial per prior Doctor, either going forwards or backwards. If you leap way, way back to William Hartnell, that'll be a super interesting contrast, but boy howdy it'll be an abrupt jump. If you dial back a little closer, to the 1996 TV movie, everything should feel way, way more familiar to you, and you can continue the procedural dive back from there. So it'll be more like wading into the warm water than doing a cannonball into the coldest, deepest end of the pool. Everyone's gonna have different recommendations. The serials can get pretty long at times, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's a bit of a whoomph to get through if you're not used to the pacing and production. So in most cases, whichever direction you choose, four-parters or shorter seem like the way to go: about equivalent to a modern two-parter. My suggestions, mostly selected for posterity value: 1) An Unearthly Child 2) Tomb of the Cybermen 3) Spearhead from Space 4) Terror of the Zygons 5) The Five Doctors 6) Vengeance on Varos 7) Remembrance of the Daleks 8) The Movie
