Ah, you've now seen Spyfall. In the way it ended, I think it does sort of explain why 13 and other Incarnations after her didn't take part in saving Gallifrey. Seeing it'll get destroyed again anyway, she doesn't see much of a point in helping her past selves save it, as it would be pointless. Hope they fix Gallifrey in the future, but it's got me intrigued about where Chibnall could be taking this...

@@ghostengineer It says "no living creature could...fail to answer," and the Doctor spends the entire episode failing to answer the question. I get it from the thematic perspective - the idea that its aimed at us. We, the audience, ask the question all the time. It is the title of the show, after all! But the point of the "promise," that was brought up in the last two episodes and that what is important is his name is the Doctor, because he chose to be that. But from a narrative perspective, the Time Lords wanted to know his real name as proof they'd found the right universe. It was specifically after secret information that only he knew. That line in the "prophecy," says that the Doctor could not fail to answer the question, yet a whole chunk of the episode is dedicated to the Doctor actively choosing to not answer for hundreds of years!
@euphoriapotion20755 жыл бұрын
@@Helbore you guys are forgetting something VERY important about all this: "The Silence is not a species. It is a religious order, or movement. *Their core belief is that silence will fall when the question is asked.* " and then Dorium said " *Silence MUST fall would be a better translation.* " So it's not so much about failing to answer the question, but making sure that The Silence falls and the question is never answered.
@theadamabrams5 жыл бұрын
Helbore It’s true that “no living person ... can fail to answer” is completely not-a-thing in this episode. But to me that’s pretty easy to justify in-universe as the Silence’s prophecy just being a bit wrong. The prophecy gets passed down from one person to the next and at some point “or fail to answer” was added to their dogma. It’s not a perfect fit, bit overall I was impressed by how well the Crack and the Silence and the Question were explained/connected in this episode. With one exception: if you forget that even met a Silent as soon as you leave them, then how can they be any use as Confessionary Priests? You wouldn’t forget your sins; you’d just forget that you ever confessed them, and then that defeats the whole point.

They definitely closed off the arc of the Doctor's name in this one with Clara telling the Time Lords, "his name is the Doctor". I think the episode works better going into it knowing it's 11's final story and knowing that Moffat planned for 11's arcs to be fleshed out more in Series 8, but Matt Smith wanted to leave at this point so The Time of the Doctor has to wrap up most of it, with Capaldi taking on the "woman from the shop" line from Bells of Saint John as Missy's arc in Series 8. With more rewatches of this episode, knowing that it had to cover quite a bit in just an hour, I think this is one of the best regeneration stories of the show, and definitely one of the better Christmas specials (a lot of them aren't that good anyway).
@julieeverett74424 жыл бұрын
this was an excellent wrap up for 11th, but it was way too rushed 11th spent close to 1000 years on Trenzalore they could have easily done a whole season on this story arc alone. But the "11ths time is over, and now its striking 12" Is a direct quote the next doctor is coming. And a time lord having 12 regenerations or 13 lives was established very early in classic who, and the time lord high council granting another life cycle was too. It is very VERY rare it was granted, but sometimes they did, maybe they considered it a reward for saving Gallifrey

I’ve been waiting for you to get here. Capaldi may be my favorite doctor. He’s such a perfect fit. I’m excited for your journey.

Apparently the events of the Doctor on Trenzalore was to have been played out over another season had Matt Smith chosen to stay longer. It was similar to Moffat's original plans of having Amy alongside the 10th Doctor had David Tennant chosen to stay longer into season 5.

Anyone else recognise the block of flats where Clara lives? Its the same as the one where Rose lived (spot the stairs she runs down when she hears the tardis returning). I've always loved that...

12 is MY doctor, there is no one better. Best regeneration moment, going that quick was great.

@Thomas Meehan I've been watching classic who for the first time and weirdly I'm having a hard time getting into T. Baker, I absolutely loved Pertwee, and after all of the hype surrounding Baker I've found that atleast thus far it's been a bit of a let-down... I loved Genesis of the Daleks, but haven't gotten to a story that I want to rewatch like I did with Pertwee.

The quick regeneration from Smith to Capaldi always made sense to me because of the BIG explosion of regeneration energy he gave off early. When he is “young” again it’s more like he’s on the edge or tipping point of changing. I quite like it :P

I liked the quick regeneration when the doctor changed. After the nuclear bomb regeneration Matt did against the Daleks I didn't think he needed the full regeneration process. The flash regen was great.

I think Capaldi is the perfect age for the Doctor. When Smith first showed up I was like, "who is this kid?" But you're exactly right, towards the end of his run Smith really started crushing it. It'll take Capaldi a season or two to catch up to that level.

The Epic part of this is at 27:42, when the 11th Doctor begins to regenerate, the Bell rings the 12th hour meaning the coming of the 12th doctor !

For me the best part about this episode is that from the daleks perspective the Doctor regenerated out of spite because they told him he couldn’t
