The ‘Bootstrap Paradox’ thing with Beethoven is a common thing with Moffat stories, Blink is a really good example. It’s a really interesting concept with time travel

Harry Potter had a bootstrap paradox in Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry sees himself across the lake and thinks it’s his father, so he goes back to the past he goes to see him, and it ends up being himself. The question being where did the idea to go there come from.
@SwiftFoxProductions4 жыл бұрын
@M.H.0903 Doesn't matter. Because Harry only survived by saving himself, that creates a bootstrap paradox. And even though it wasn't Harry's idea to time travel to save Buckbeak, the only reason he dragged Hermione over to where the dementors were was to see his father. If he hadn't seen himself earlier, they wouldn't have been over there (he, also, would be dead). Plus, Harry only knew he could succeed in casting the patronus, because he realized he had seen himself do it before. So, he essentially did "pull himself up by his own bootstraps".
@travishimebaugh83814 жыл бұрын
It's ambiguous whether or not there's a bootstrap paradox in Back to the Future. Marty seems to inspire Chuck Barry to write Johnny B Good at his parents' school dance (when obviously Marty got the music from Barry 20ish years later). But given how time travel worked in that franchise (particularly as it's confirmed to work in later movies), with one timeline having an iterative relationship to the previous one, arguably Barry is still the true origin point for the song.
@idunnn.h.37924 жыл бұрын
Actually I would say it WAS a bootstrap paradox, because Harry explains that the reason he managed to conjure the patrons in that moment was because he realised that it HAD been him, and not his father. Not sure if that's explained in the movies, but in the books that's a pretty central thing.
@SwiftFoxProductions4 жыл бұрын
@@idunnn.h.3792 Yup, Harry Potter is definitely a bootstrap paradox for multiple reasons. I said something similar in my older reply to M.H.0903. 👆

It's the Ontalogic Paradox - one of the shows favourite time-paradox story elements. It's especially common in stories Moffat wrote - for instance - where did the transcript in 'Blink' come from? When did the Doctor get the idea to tell Rory to put his screwdriver in Amy's pocket? How did the Doctor get the idea to pull the Wibbly lever in the Space/Time short?

So this entire story basically only happened because the Doctor was there in the past, but the Doctor had to land in the future first to know to travel to the past, so the future Doctor from the past is the reason that the past Doctor from the future ended up in this situation. There's something fun to try to wrap your head around.

The TARDIS uses a neural link to create a hologram of a version the person who is watching would recognize, like in the "Let's Kill Hitler" episode, "Blink", in Blink, the TARDIS hasn't met them yet, and already they formed a visual model of The Doctor they would recognize, most likely if not, the TARDIS would just create a hologram for that specific regeneration's face for that time period.

I feel you should really watch this episode a few more times to understand it. You didn’t get the meaning of the Doctors opening speech. Not really about changing time to save someone at all. It actually is a really interesting theory. You should GOOGLE the term: “BOOTSTRAP PARADOX”........ That’s basically what this whole 2 parter is about. Research and understanding of the things you want to discuss with people, will always guarantee that you know facts and not fiction and won’t be made to look at foolish when you’re explaining the episode to your viewers!! - 🤖🤓

Oh, for... The Doctor's speech at the beginning really annoys me. Are you telling me that the Doctor, a Time Lord, two thousand years of time travel experience, has a problem with a stupid *stable time loop*? Give me a break. Addendum: No one wrote Beethoven's Fifth in this scenario. It is literally a *causeless effect*. It exists in a stable time loop, and as we all (should) know, circles *don't have a beginning*. EDIT: This was supposed to have some of the phrases highlighted. But KZbin is clearly incapable of handling even the minimal markup it pretends to do, since it doesn't recognise word boundaries. This is something that literally every other markup language has solved. But YT devs clearly can't be bothered. I'm leaving it like this, since I can't be bothered either. /rant
