Doctor Who: Skaro Reborn (V2)

So, this has been bouncing around in my head for a few years now, but I finally took this quarantine as a chance to remaster an old recreation I made of the variation of The Dark and Endless Dalek Night that was used in The Magicians Apprentice. Admittedly, I'm not all that fond of this episode nor its second part, but I still get a goofy smile whenever I watch the Skaro reveal! Since I lack the skills and software to recreate the extra pieces of sound used in the opening section of the actual score from the episode, I managed to isolate these sounds and implement them into the recreation, which hopefully leaves the opening drum section feeling less empty than my initial version was. As well as that, I noticed that the initial sections of the middle part of the piece sounded different in the episode, almost lighter than the climactic section of the piece, so I used the same section used in the 2013 Proms to imitate that lighter sound, before moving to the traditional DAEDN piece for the climax.

The gap between Davros at the end of S4 and where we see him in S9 bothers me so much I literally made my own headcanon. Hey, if the show's not gonna do the work... His part of the Crucible got blasted into space, and that's why he's so frail in S9; the journey to Skaro was rough. Upon crashing, he didn't have much to work with for making new Daleks, hence the *classic era* designs (old casings he pulled out of city storage) and why they genuinely respect him (growing mutants from the defunct breeding plants = genetic defects)

I always just assumed that he'd survived somehow after Journeys End. It was always one of those things with popular villains in the classic series, where they would escape at the last minute from a seemingly inescapable situation. Though, I really like Lee Adams explanation for Davros' condition in TMA/TWF, the combination of different dalek casings being present and the overall aesthetic for the Dalek City on Skaro being different to how we see it in Asylum.

@@theknightofgallifrey967 I think Moffat's intention with Skaro was that when we see it in Asylum that's basically what it looks like at the end of the Time War, and the Doctor meets that Dalek Puppet in a time zone where the Daleks have basically only just reoccupied the planet (hence the Dalek presence there, but no actual infrastructure). In the time between the end of the Time War and Davros arriving, the Daleks go about their business rebuilding Kaalann. How Davros actually escaped the Crucible is basically irrelevant, the important thing is that he somehow ended up on Skaro while the Daleks were already in the process of rebuilding, hence being relegated to a dingy hospital. As for the mismatched casing designs, the most likely explanation is that Daleks from all across their timeline arrived on Skaro to pay their respects to Davros, although the new Dalek animated series suggests that Daleks that have cushy jobs in the heart of the Empire sometimes use Classic-style casings so that could also explain it. Daleks living in Kaalann would likely very rarely see combat duty as the planet is so well-protected
