I think the trick here is to think of it like the first few episodes of the 2005 era. They were pretty simple, and designed to bring new viewers into the mix. That's what they are going for here. Although they are giving away a lot of the lore early on compared to the 2005 era.
@CrankyGrandma6 ай бұрын
But they were written better as stories. There was no need for exposition dumps as we’ve seen in the past two episodes here. The doctors backstory was revealed slowly and we saw it through Rose’s eyes. We saw the relationship between Rose and the doctor (I’m not talking romance just general relationship between characters) unfold slowly and build well. This, so far, does none of that. It feels so very “off” in a way early eccleston didn’t. There was meat in the eccleston episodes. There isn’t here.

First impression I got was "this is too _weird_ ... Even for me..." But then the episode went on and I like that we are exploring the immediate consequences of the stuff that happens directly from this timeline to the future. If I remember correctly, we've never done this. Like Rory saving the older Amy in The Girl Who Waited and then they travel back to the future and see how many years they would have left to live together. Like, doing stuff and then time travelling in order to see what will happen? We saw one glimpse of future Trenzalore in Name Of The Doctor. But that's about it. And it never was anything that "changed". Like, it was fixed, connected to fixed events in time. As far as I am concerned, the final, ultimate resting place, when the Doctor really, officially dies will still be that one on Trenzalore....

I think the simple stories/nature are intentional. One of the "concerns" at the BBC over the last many years has been the dwindling youth audience... y'know, CHILDREN. Merch sales are down, and young kids have been left behind due to increasingly-complex plots and subplots. Yeah, these new stories ARE simple - and absolutely perfect for 6 or 7 years olds who will fall in love with the show and ask for DW merch at xmas.

I liked this one quite a lot. It reminded me of another series I have been reading for a few years now. It revolves around battling concepts. For example, the current fight that’s going on in the series they are fighting against the physical embodiment of the concept of language. The Doctor and Ruby going up against the concept of Music reminded me of that. Like the Doctor fighting the concept of Play in The Toymaker. It’s a general theme I find fun. Also, the bit at the end did feel a little unnecessary, but in that little musical number you could see the little kid that brought Maestro into the world. The Harbinger. I think that was the twist. That they may return later in some way. I also have a feeling that the Doctor mentioning Susan makes me think she may return in some form later. They don’t often mention Susan. So it felt notable.

I enjoyed this one more. Maestro was great, and I thought the concept of the loss of music as a form of expression resulting in the (presumably) Cold War going hot at some point was a neat idea. Last few minutes were a bit strange. I think rather than a big dance number, it may have been better to spend a bit more time with The Beatles. Set up them saving the day a bit more. That was my main criticism - none of the resolution felt earned (which, tbf, is a RTD classic move). I'm glad that Moffat is back next week.

I enjoyed this episode more than the first, maybe a 6.5/10. Loved the Susan reference and the intro. It's interesting that the doctor mentioned 'the pantheon'. I wonder if he is referring to the pantheon of discord, which the trickster was part of. Speaking of which, now we are going this route with god's and such, I really hope the trickster returns. One thing I'm not too keen on with moffat and rtd companions is that they always big them up like they are something super special; 'the most important woman in the universe', 'the impossible girl' etc. And it seems like once again there is something more to ruby. I would have preferred it if she had just been a normal human being like Chibnall companions tbh.

Rewatching the end of this video to figure out what the twist is. Hamza, please tell me! What's the twist? This episode to me is basically The Giggle 2.0, it did 2 things that I wanted which was the main villain to play the opening & being longer, though I honestly wouldn't mind if TDC's a 2 parter. Heck, it felt more like a special than a regular episode! Which, is probably why I would have preferred if this episode was placed near the end of the series rather than the 3rd episode. There were moments where it felt like the Doctor & Ruby shared a deep bond like when Ruby was trying to motivate the Doctor that music exists in her time & so, they'll defeat Maestro, but because we as the audience only saw these 2 for only 2-3 episodes, it never felt like that to us.We weren't there with the 2 to see their friendship grow stronger throughout their journey. Heck, there are journeys we've possibly missed since Ruby said her time was June/July 2024 but Space Babies was December 2023. That's 6-7 months of journeys we didn't get to see. I do agree with you that this episode did feel rather basic, & I believed I mentioned this in your Space Babies video, but the episodes so far feel like it could have been dark & more emotional but for some reason it never went that route, keeping it more friendly & safe rather than trying to take risks. I wish we saw more of the Beatles since that's the whole reason the Doctor & Ruby are there & at the end they're the ones who banished Maestro. I honestly thought the Doctor & Ruby would accidentally break up the band but near the end of the episode, the band reunites & becomes friends again, which would make the scene where Lennon & McCartney played the last note together so much better. I wish we really got to see the Doctor figuring out what the Notes of Banishment are, because the Doctor said that there are 66 billion trillion different tunes & that genius is just hard work, but before finding the answer he gets interrupted by Maestro & suddenly he knows what to play because he's *checks note* lived, loved, & experienced everything? Regarding Maestro, I honestly like them & wouldn't mind seeing them return (I know they were one of the Toymaker's legion, but not his child! Who did the Toymaker shaboink?) but, I wish we got to see more of what Maestro could do. That is, more music-related power so far we only saw them forming music notes and using it as a whip. Heck, the sonic screwdriver's ability to mute the entire area (since when could the sonic screwdriver do that?!) would have been a better ability for Maestro to have. By eating people's music, it turns them mute & so in the whole world, only she has music & the only music besides their's are Aeolian tones. (I do wonder if Maestro's favourite planet is Darillium..) One theory about the music breakout at the end (didn't really like it) that I found on Reddit & like & hope it's true is that just like the Toymaker, Maestro's domain was still lingering & everyone was in a state of play, hence why everyone started singing & dancing & the zebra crossing lights up. Another interesting thing someone on Reddit noticed is the song Ruby's soul first sings is the Trickster's theme. Here's the link if you're interested: www.reddit.com/r/gallifrey/comments/1cslqok/rubys_song_is_the_tricksters_motif/ Also, after the mention of The One Who Waits by Maestro & the Christmas carol, the scene shows a billboard with the words "CHRIS WAITES AND THE CAROLLERS". Could that be a reference? Who knows? "Daddy daddied me" 💀
