Excellent review good chap. So glad you mentioned the 'Show went downhill since he left the junk yard' cabal, who are so endless in the gatekeeping it drove an old OLD school fan such as myself to avoid nearly all online content as it is so universally miserable it seems. A joyful review of a joyful episode, and with smart observations and reflections. Good review good sir!

Can someone explain how or why the Beatles would even form a band? If Maestro ate all the music in the '20s, there would be no Chuck Berry or Elvis or Buddy Holly to write the early rock and roll that inspired them.

Great question. I think the idea was that time continued as normal but the music was ripped out of the timeline. There were still loads of consequences like war etc but most things continued. It’s why everyone looks a little lost. They’re kind of wondering why they’re doing it.

Thankful to see another review which isn't blindly trashing the episode like the rest of the mob. And yeah, a villain like Maestro is peak camp, something the show needed since chibnall imo.

I watched because of Jinkx Monsoon. Doctor Who has such a deep history that some one new like me feels lost because so much of the show references the show's universe. But I came because of Jinkx and I wasn't disappointed. I truly hope there will be more Jinkx as the Maestro. Maybe I will dare to step into the deep end of the Doctor Who pool.

Can you imagine what this episode could have been? Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band in full regalia battling the maestro? Peace and Love wins? But no. We had to have an episode where the writer knew nothing about the Beatles, right down to the fact that phantom notes hanging in the air would have meant nothing to them. Every Beatle fan knows they couldn’t read sheet music. Don’t bring out the Beatles if you don’t know the Beatles.

Yes, they couldn't read music but TBH what irked me more was the fact there appears to to be no stave (or staff if you're from the U.S) so it would be difficult to know which notes are actually being played anyway.

Not to mention that they seem to have gone out of their way to cast blokes who looked nothing like John and Paul. That was actually distracting.

Found it hard to watch. Like honestly, who came up with a "drag queen piano devil"? It's a shame that one of my favorite childhood shows has become corrupted by politics.
