I thought this scene where Shockeye gets killed with cyanide by the Sixth Doctor is a great scene showing how he acted in self-defense. Shockeye was trying to kill the Sixth Doctor and had to defend himself, a justifiable homicide. Loved it when the Sixth Doctor said to Shockeye after killing him "Your just desserts",,,,LOL.

Its the cold James Bond liner that makes it come off as cold. There was also a similar scene I think Vengeance on Varos where someone dies in acid and the Doc says "mind if i dont join you". A better line would be "I wish I hadnt had to do that" or something. This just makes him sound like a psychopatth.
@Foebane72 Жыл бұрын
@@rndompersn3426In Varos, two men are preparing to put the (supposedly dead) Doctor into the acid pool. When they're not looking, the Doctor wakes up, startles them both (one man knocks the other into the acid pool) and the remaining man fights with the Doctor, who is almost pushed into the pool. Then the man who went in reaches in and pulls in his comrade and they both die by their own hand while trying to kill the Doctor. Self-defence again!

Best one liner in 'Vengence of Varos' was at the end when Sil is calling for water and he quips "He needs more than water Perri hay" at the time Perrier was advertised with the slogan 'More than Water' I always assumed that one was Colin rather than the script. Incidentally in the 90s Colin was the first Doctor to also play Bond recording radio versions of Flemmings shorts for R4. More recently Tennent has played Bond on the radio.

Everyone in the comments saying "back when violence was okay in doctor who, now they're too scared to have any violence in new who" doesn't grasp the fact that the doctor in the revival series is a man who had just been involved in the greatest war in history, literally committed genocide against his own race (or so he thought), of course he's opposed to violence now, it reminds him of the absolute terror that was the Time War and all the things he did.

A War which couldn't have actually happened in the proper Whoniverse and even if it some how did would result in a distinct lack of Time and Space left forever.
@TranscendentLion2 жыл бұрын
If he's opposed to violence now, he's got a funny way of showing it. The supposedly peaceful post-War Doctor tortured a Dalek, drowned some spider children, incited genocide against the Silents, impaled the Half-Face Man, and had the gall to tell people that he 'never would'.

He (Shockeye) wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Setting aside the whole pursuing the Doctor plot he acted like every human he met was on the menu. Okay "Androgums" (the race Shockeye was a part of) were described as stronger than humans on average but he was just one man. Armed with merely bladed weapons on a planet with billions of humans many of whom were as well or better armed. He could easily while he was chasing the Doctor in fairly densely populated Italy have come across some armed police, soldiers, farmers hunters etc.; they likely wouldn't have taken it very well watching him chow down on someone or discovering the aftermath of such.
@Foebane72 Жыл бұрын
I love this story because of the fascinating concept of the Androgums in general, and the way Shockeye describes his gargantuan repast in Oscar's restaurant as "a mere snack" just fires the imagination as to how much food (and meat in particular) would satiate an Androgum like Shockeye!
