How this extraordinary man was so underappreciated baffles me. One of my favorite Doctors easily. Can i just say also that his costume was amazing. I know this incarnation is supposed to be tasteless but i love the idea he wore this outfit because he felt unstoppable and probably knew saving the universe would likely get him shot at. Why not absolutely taunt his enemies with a wild and bright coat. Maybe it would draw attention away from the people he traveled with? Its that iron attitude that I love most... "Im the doctor!" "I'll go wherever I like save whoever I like fight whatever evil that stands in my way and I'll dress however I want to do it!"

I have wondered if there was foreshadowing from as early back as this point in the series that the Time War was approaching. I mean, the modern canon recognises Genesis of the Daleks as being instrumental in potentially being the unintended first shot that started the Time War, the previous season of the show had the Daleks planning to infiltrate Gallifrey's high council with duplicates under their control in Resurrection of the Daleks, and this episode shows that some species or individuals were starting to make technological leaps into time travel, enough that the Time Lords sent in an incarnation of the Doctor to personally intervene, with Dastari even going so far as to suggest that the Time Lords were worried of potential threats to their monopoly on time travel. The following seasons have nods and winks to the idea that the Time Lords were steadily falling from grace, and other races were beginning to experiment with time travel - a Time War was on the horizon, waged between those that wanted to depose the Time Lords as retaliation or saw their decline as an opportunity.

I heard a theory that the Time War is the over-arching plot point of the entire series 1st left because it started, 4 was told to go back by the Timelords during it, the Daleks experimented with invisible Daleks as a war tactic during it, everything you mentioned and 7 mentioning him not knowing if his family is alive and when asked "it's the war isn't it" he just goes "yes..." And that's it...

“He turned to the computer and touched one of its graphics display keys. Instantly, Peri was replaced by another tortured figure. The Doctor recognised Dastari. It was a perfect holographic forgery, he thought. He touched the key again and another figure appeared that he didn’t recognise. A rather scruffy person in an ill-fitting tailcoat and black string necktie. The Doctor switched off the machine and sank back into the control chair with his mind racing. *Although he would instantly recognise The Brigadier or Leela or any of his past companions, he scarcely had any recollection of how he himself had appeared in past forms.* *Nonetheless, he thought, it was all Lombard Street to a China orange that the chap in the tailcoat was himself.* In that case, not only had his sartorial taste improved, but at last it was all beginning to make sense. “ - Robert Holmes, The Two Doctors

Spike EP Sounds like an excuse on Holmes’ part of why the Sixth Doctor doesn’t immediately recognise the Second Doctor. Especially when in other multi-doctor stories, the Doctor has no issue knowing what his past selves looks like.

Ray Venkman Yes, because of telepathy. If it’s a holographic image, there is no telepathic imprint. In Grant Morrison’s The World-Shapers, the Sixth Doctor warns the Cyber-Controller to remember his and Jamie’s auras when he captures them on Planet 14 - after he becomes the Cyber-Coordinator, it then recognises Jamie and the Second Doctor when they trespass at International Electronics in The Invasion.

Why are there so many Earth Stories. Yes.... so the audience can connect with the Dr. For Dr. Who is not about going into space or time, that you can do the show in a submarine. I get it.... Oh, do fuck off, what was he supposed to do? Allow Shockeye to roam Seville, eating as many Spaniards as he desired? Also, how was it 'cold blooded'? Shockeye had already slashed his upper leg with his knife, the wound was bleeding profusely and he was hunting him. Cold blooded? You need to look up the term. Cold blooded is the murder of the Dona Arana, committed by Shockeye on arrival at the hacienda. You Sixth Doctor bashers are always conveniently ignoring evidence and situation to knock him.

I haven’t seen classic Who yet so I shouldn’t really judge, but that suit has way too much going on. Lol
@leighhargreaves41044 жыл бұрын
It does. The sixth Doctor's costume is generally considered one of the worst decisions in the history of the show. The general idea with this version of the Doctor was to make him more "alien" and less immediately likeable than his predecessor's softer and more approachable take on the character. That way the audience would go on more of a journey as they discovered his good points and could get more invested in him. The showrunner thought that a costume that ran completely against normal fashion sensibilities would help emphasize the Doctor's alien quality. In reality, all it ever did was distract from the character by putting the attention on his clothes. The actor who played the 6th Doctor never cared for his outfit, he wanted the character to wear black velvet, and the show runner later agreed it was a mistake.
@greenstarrysky98814 жыл бұрын

Colin Baker was brilliant as Doctor Who. But I could hardly watch because of that awful costume. I often wonder how much input John Nathan Turner (gag me) had in choosing that dreadful mess.
@JPH1138 Жыл бұрын
The story goes that he told the costume designer to come up with an incredibly tasteless, loud and colourful outfit where nothing matched. JNT rejected several designs and asked for more tasteless and clashing each time. Supposedly the final design was the costume designer going deliberately overboard in frustration and then being amazed that JNT loved it. So a fair bit.

Colin Baker was one of the worst Doctors. I stopped watching the show shortly after he became the Doctor. Then Sylvester McCoy was even worse. It was not until Paul McGann played him in the film that it got good again. I don't Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy it was just really poor writing and they turned The Doctor into a clown

I know shouldn't pick fights on the internet, but like dude... Okay. You're opinion are valid, but misinformed... The Two Doctors??? All banging episodes my man. And, I do have to concede, the writing is not the best in every episode, I mean the Twin Dilemma exists so... And Michael Grade fucking hated Doctor Who as well so that didnt help... Anyway this comment is so fucking long and rambling... I just want to say, give them an chance you know. I agree, as bad as Colin Baker was, Sylvester McCoy was even worse. On the plus side though, he had Ace and Ace was awesome.
