Media Mastermind!!! Mr. Stephen, as the 13th doctor might say, "A gold star for you!" Such a great deep dive into such a slept on episode. I would so quickly purchase a target novelization of the long game because there is so much to be said. Another aspect of the story which is so intriguing is the follow up to this in Bad Wolf. It almost works as a companion piece to this episode. The Bad Wolf corporation, (backed by the Daleks as the alter ego of the Jagrafess's news empire) realized if narrative manipulation wouldn't work, then content bombardment would. Because the human race had developed such a high tollerance for stimulation with the news, they needed something stronger and more vicious. This led to exactly what the daleks wanted. Yet another prophetic aspect of series One involving Satelite 5 written by RTD, as seen with platforms like tik tok, instagram, and youtube. They took advantage of the vaccum created by the doctor, so another form of media comes in to distract, detain, and dictate the minds of others. The flip side of the coin of news media, is mindless content. If you can't tell them what to think, give them too much so they can't think. By the way, I love your voice and delivery. I feel as though your voice should be narrating a documentary about Andrew Cartmell on a boxset!

Thanks ever so much for your lovely comment. As for my voice… would you mind telling Chris Chapman that 🤣 I agree there is a lot of similarities between this one and the finale. I’m writing scripts for that one at the moment so it will be interesting to see how things go. Typically, it takes a while to write these scripts (I keep a few ahead for that reason), and things/ideas tend to shift around as I watch the episodes a few times.
