Dan just leaving certainly could be seen as anticlimactic, but honestly I appreciated it. I sometimes think about how unusual it is for a normal person to be so okay with being in life threatening situations so regularly when travelling with the Doctor. Not that it never affects the characters, but it just is notable how willing many of the companions are to travel with the Doctor, even with the risks it entails. So, having a companion just want to stop because of it was actually pretty nice to see acknowledged (It's true that Martha quit for this reason, but that was only after her entire family were tortured for a year just because they were related to her and she was travelling with the Doctor)

That was the most beautiful regenerations they've done. Jodie deserved so much better, both from the writing but also the fandom
@eolsunder

no sorry writing maybe, but the fandom thought about her exactly as they should. She wasn't a good Doctor. In fact she was a bad one, most of the special stars and the companions where the star of the episodes, not her. She was in the background in practically every one. There wasn't ONE episode where i felt any "Doctor" vibes about her and there wasn't any episode that she stood out as the star of the episode.

Sacha Dhawan absolutely killed it here, it's easily his best turn as the Master (side note, I'm almost ready to forgive all my issues with this era for the Boney M scene) and it solidifies him as the MVP of this era. Same for Jo Martin, who once again manages to leave a massive impact despite the fact that she does nothing in this episode. And with all the returning Doctors and companions, I was worried the episode would turn into a massive fanwank session, but I feel like they were all used fairly well. I have no emotional connection to Tegan and Ace and their respective Doctors, but the scenes with Five/Tegan and Seven/Ace actually managed to raise quite a strong emotion out of me. It's kind of funny really, despite this being billed as the final go around for the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz, they're easily the weakest and least interesting parts of this episode. To be fair, Jodie's regeneration scene was really good and I like how it ended her era on a relatively optimistic note, but I don't get the feeling that we saw enough of her in this episode, what with her sharing screentime with so many different characters and spending a good chunk of the episode being replaced by Sacha Dhawan. Similarly, Yaz got done so dirty with her exit, after all the time they seemingly spent setting up her and the Doctor as a romantic pairing, to have them part ways for no discernible reason was such an anticlimax - and I'm not even a big fan of the character! Overall, I had fun with The Power of the Doctor. It's an incredibly messy episode with way too much stuff going on, but it's still a really fun ride and a reasonably suitable conclusion to an era that I really haven't cared for

I think the regeneration was really nice, tag you're it! I just hope they'll explain a few things from the 13's series in the future. The Watch The Doctor hid into the TARDIS, The Fugitive Doctor's origins, and I know it was sort of explained, but I would like more story and information behind the Timeless Child plot. Hopefully RTD will explain all of those unanswered questions Chibnall left for us. Oh and maybe one more thing, how did The Doctor regenerate into a new/old very 10th Doctor looking outfit? (sandshoes and all!) I guess if regeneration energy can mend a Timelord's body, maybe it can mend new clothes as well? LOL I look forward to the next year's CenTENary specials, and the continuation of The Doctor's journey with Ncuti Gatwa as The Fourteenth Doctor!

I've been waiting SINCE THE CREDITS ROLLED for Lauren's review. Overall great ep. Very satisfying. So much so that I TOTALLY FORGOT there might be a new series trailer during or after the credits & changed the channel. Good thing I got it on my DVR so I can go back. My thoughts... 1. Um...WHERE WAS RYAN??? Not a SINGLE mention? Or did I miss where Graham said he was off at University or climbing Mt. Everest or...dead? 2. I have NEVER seen this "shipping" between The Doctor & Yaz develope on screen or otherwise. But I did find myself hoping they were going to kiss towards the end there. About the same time I realized Jodie's Doctor never had any encounters with River Song. That's a crime!!! 3. Lauren hopes Jodie will come back. As do I. I hope the "fans" haven't left a bad taste in her mouth. They have SHAT on Jodie & Chibnall since WORD 1!! They NEVER gave these series a chance because why...Jodie is a woman & Chibnall isn't Davies or Moffatt??? That being said... 4. DAVID F'N TENNANT!!!! LET'S FRICKIN' GO!!!!

The callbacks in this episode were so awesome, from 13 meeting Tegan and Ace to The Master dancing to Rasputin (that being a callback to John Simm’s incarnation dancing on the Valiant during the year that never was) and of course seeing a bunch of classic incarnations of The Doctor that legit made me and my wife tear up it was so amazing

I love that the Classic Doctors got the spotlight here, because they are often overshadowed by the New Who Doctors and now it was just them. It's also a nice payoff to their Five(ish) Doctors special and it's plot.

Really enjoyed this episode i felt Dan's exit was earlier than expected but i understand why with alot going on in the episode there was no other way around it. It was nice seeing Tegan and Ace again and of course the surprise appearance of the Classic Doctors even though i would had preferred a CGI version of Hartnell because i feel David Bradley is contradicting Hartnell's performance The First Doctor and of course Jo Grant, Ian Chesterton and Mel Bush. Sasha's performance as The Master is top notch and i really hope RTD keeps him in his new era i've enjoyed most of the Jodie era and i'm very sad to see her go but i look forward to the next era with Ncuti Gatwa though i'm not keen on Disney taking control of it.

I appreciate that they acknowledged Thasmin near the end (and had a few bread crumbs along the way,) but I do feel like it was ultimately underwhelming as a ship. Honestly, that's kind of how I feel about Chibnall's whole era. Lots of big ideas that end up being under-utilized. Some of the ideas feel wasted and others feel like he was just throwing in dangling threads for other writers to play with, but didn't want to flesh them out himself. I wonder if some of that may have come from higher ups at the BBC reigning in his ideas, but either way it leaves me wanting more to have been done with a lot of different things from this era.
@DanielRed2

In regards to Thirteen/Yaz, this special confirmed, for me, that Chibnall only quickly wrote the relationship (if you can call it that 😆) into Flux, due to the fan hype, and he already had the finale sorted prior to that with them not actually together... The whole situation is crazy! I'm so glad Chibnall's gone. Jodie under a different writer could have had 10x better a tenure! 😳

I completely stopped watching Dr who after Capaldi regenerated into Jodie, she changed the show in a negative way for me an took away the charm. Too many times it was like there had to be a lesson behind each episode which I'm sorry I just think keep that out of Dr who. But now that she has gone I'm ready to give the show another chance, I watched from Eccleston to Capaldi and I'm excited to watch the show again and hopefully we can get back to how the show should be :D
@LaurenMcGinty12
@LaurenMcGinty12 Жыл бұрын
How did Jodie specifically change the show in a negative way? Is it because she's a woman? As a woman, having a female Doctor meant something special, even if I didn't always like the writing. Doctor Who always had politics and lessons in it - and RTD did a lot of politics and doing to again. He's already states episodes focused on climate change.
@kipperman323
@kipperman323 Жыл бұрын
@@LaurenMcGinty12 Yes but climate change is not such a controversial topic. As soon as it started with gender ect is where it lost me. Focus on the Sifi and keep these opinionated views out of it. I'm just excited to give the show another chance an hope it learns from that mistake and that we can all forget Jodie's tenure as the Doctor. That's why the ratings are at the lowest. Hopefully going back to their roots will fix that issue. Maybe be able to call myself a Whovian again lol
@LaurenMcGinty12
@LaurenMcGinty12 Жыл бұрын
Climate change is a very controversial topic, look at the news and most Americans don’t even believe in Climate change. Woman existing is not political. The Doctor being a woman is not political. It didn’t ‘start with gender’ or whatever that means. The Doctor being a woman didn’t ruin the show, that’s plain sexism talking. You can dislike the writing, dislike Jodie’s take on the Doctor but you can’t hate Jodie for being a woman taking on the role.
