I wonder what the opening would look like for the War Doctor era since it would have to reflect the war and how horrifyingly dark it can get. I’m not really into war characters but I love the War Doctor because of how he started as a warrior but as time went on and he grew older he got to a place of “when is this going to end? I can’t stand this anymore! I’m going to end this now!” that him back into being the Doctor once more only to lose that development thanks to it being in a multi-Doctor story. I’m glad we got 12 more stories with this great Doctor thanks to Big Finish.

Well big finish has the eighth doctor time war theme
@L1z43vr Жыл бұрын
What do you mean he lost his development because he was in a multi Doctor story? If anything, it solidified his development even more. Not only because he was at the point where he just wanted the war to end, but also because, when he saw the future, when he saw what he would become if he did end the war, he hated it. Not only that, it was because he was able to reach a compromise that not only he, but all of the Doctors, could leave the Time War behind and truly become the Doctor again. Because let's be honest, as much as I love the RTD1 era and Series 5, the Doctor was a brooding, angsty mess every time he lost his companion, and that was also mostly because of the Time War. Not only that, but 12's whole schtick was that he was questioning himself if he was still a good man after the Time War and the Siege of Trenzalore, which made him do some questionable decisions that even Donna would slap some sense into him, like celebrating the fact that there isn't a good Dalek in the universe, while said Dalek goes on a killing spree, leaving Clara and a 15 year old child to decide whether or not to kill an unborn creature or let the moon destroy the Earth, trying to trap an alien in a school where not only his then companion was present, but her boyfriend were there, all these come to mind, and they were a bi-product of the Time War. To be perfectly clear here, I'm not hating on the RTD and Time War years, they were great for bringing back mystery into the revival series, but every mystery, at one point, will have to be solved. At one point, Doctor Who will have to properly end. The Time War was just that, another mystery that has been solved, which was a great mystery, I won't lie about that. However, I much prefer the Doctor to be a swashbuckling idiot in a box with a screwdriver, trying to help wherever he can, than an angsty, lonely god who broods in the thoughts that he committed planetary destruction to end both his race and space trashbins.
@douglasfreer Жыл бұрын
@@L1z43vr by his development I mean him not to become a ptsd Doctor but back to just the Doctor but whenever the Doctors meet themselves they will always forget the entire thing happened(if they always remember the encounter the future versions would never be surprised they’re meeting the past ones. Even Missy was surprised the Saxon Master was on that spacecraft in the series finale of Twelves run. Any lessons they learn are forgotten until it’s needed with the future one like when Five and Ten met by accident and Ten knew what to do because he now remembers it as Ten) meaning he, from his point of view, went from activating the Moment to being regenerated so Nine thinks his previous life destroyed Gallifrey instead of saving it. So because they can’t remember all of that means Nine through Twelve are going to experience PTSD in different ways.

I had heard bits of this theme around the internet and thought it was a cool fan cover. But it's official. I love this theme for several reasons. It's like a dark and militarized version of the usual theme. The Doctor we know and love isn't here anymore. The small whimsical hints convey a sense of longing, reaching for the Doctor we know is in there somewhere. The extra trills sound both like a plea for the return of the Doctor we are so used to, but also a kind of warning sound. An alarm that the Doctor is coming and those who stand against him should be very, very afraid.

The way this was arranged is spectacular. It also fits the tone of the Time War so well. How it was a brutal war, which scarred the Doctor almost as much as him nearly destroying Gallifrey at its end. From what I know, the war was not a fun memory for the Doctor. He saw many horrible things beyond what we can imagine, being the greatest war in all of existence, and that he's tried for centuries to go without thinking about that horrible conflict, and the atrocities he saw during it. I really can't say I blame him. If I fought in a war like that, I'd be completely consumed by PTSD. It also shows how dangerous the Daleks are, and the lengths they'll go through to get what they want. That's why the war happened, the Daleks want to conquer everything, but the Time Lords stood in their way. They had to be removed to achieve conquest.

I think a big thing here is that the iconic Doctor Who theme is still very much recognizable here. No matter what atrocities he committed during the war, no matter how much he says he's no longer "The Doctor", he can't hide his true nature. He's The Doctor. He saves people. He may have had to commit the ultimate sin to end the time war, and end countless lives on Gallifrey...but like he himself says...what he does...he does without choice. It was the only way to save the universe...and in the end, we know it turned out okay, because two madmen with a bowtie and a trenchcoat came to lend a helping hand.
