I really wish they kept the rock theme from Before the Flood for Capaldi's entire era. Not only is it awesome but Peter actually played the electric guitar rendition of the theme which they used for the episode which is even better

0:12 - Imagine: it's 1963, you switch your TV on and, instead of being presented by "Z-Cars", "The Saint" or "The Yogi Bear Show", you see THAT! All those abstract, organic shapes, dancing on your screen, perfectly and smoothly, you hear the minimalist deep synth's notes, and then the theremin-like extraterrestrial melody! What an absolute trip it must have been back then to witness this opening theme! You knew you were witnessing something radical even for Sci-Fi!

I like how the intro almost never changed besides the instruments. Like how the 2005 Intro used the same exact recording from the 1970's and added just a bit more.
@Kryojenix
@Kryojenix Ай бұрын
Uh - it didn't use the same exact recording, but they re-did the melody in a similar way out of nostalgia - that much is true. They had an idea to use the same exact recording - you can see it in the leaked pilot edit of Rose, but then Murray and the rest of them decided it needed more dan-de-dackada so they recorded and entirely new one.

Did you know that the 12th Doctor's title sequence was basically created by a fan who put a demo up on KZbin? His name is Billy Hanshaw and you'll see his name in the end credits for the 12th Doctor episodes. I've forgotten what his KZbin name was, it's in my playlisted videos somewhere... Moffat saw the KZbin and got the BBC contractors to make something extremely similar.

It could be argued that there are 3 missing title sequences in this compilation... 1) The Third Doctor title sequence where the opening theme continues rather than repeats the same sequence until fade (Mind of Evil Episode 1, being an example) 2) The Delaware opening titles, as used during a broadcast in Australia and released in error on Episode 2 of Carnival of Monsters and Episode 5 of Frontier in Space of the UK VHS releases. 3) The 'alternate colour' opening title sequence for The Ark in Space (which was a purposeful piece of experimentation by the production team).

My personal favourite is the Whittaker one. It's abstract, mysterious, the bass drop grabs your attention and it gets you ready for the adventure ahead. Say what you will about said adventures but it's a great title sequence. The runners are are McCoy's titles, Tom Baker's first titles and the Matt Smith first titles

I love the very different, more adventurous intros to the first Matt Smith one and the latest one. They both really get the blood pumping and get you ready for the excitement of the episode.😁👏Also, you missed one out, as the one for “Voyage of the Damned” had a different, more raw or pulse-pounding electric guitar intro to the theme (as opposed to the more-orchestral version they then changed to for Series 4).

I think the ecclston theme, used by tennant as well, were the best. There’s something classical about violins, they’re a nice bridge to more electronic styles and lent an air of caution, even threat to the intro. The Doctor is after all a super hero who fights villains.
