All four stories were great, as we expect from this awesome series, but the last two stories were incredible. They say in the extras that the idea that the War Master is terrified of Bilis came from Russell T Davies, and it has his brilliant fingerprints all over it. I'm glad we finally got (sort of) some answers about Bilis before the actor passed. And the idea of bringing back Professor Yana came roundabout from Derek himself, because he wanted to do something a bit more normal, less evil and dark. And OF COURSE the kinder Yana would have built a found family. He's so sweet that it's devastating that he will eventually turn into the monster that we see in the rest of the set (and at the end of Utopia and beyond) when his Master personality forces himself on himself. Jacobi and Melvin are utterly incredible tour de forces in this set, as they always are. I'm glad Murray got to go out (from Big Finish) on such a high. All of his work at Big Finish has been top notch, as been the writing in all of his stories.

'Alone' is probably my favorite Big Finish story of the year, and I really enjoyed the other three stories in this set as well. I just absolutely adore the War Master range so much man, it's astounding that they've managed to keep up this level of quality for TEN box sets! Although I do agree that in the future it would be better for BF to start doing sets that are more connected story-wise

Without spoiling anything, the story where the Master is chased by Manger was really good but I feel like the conclusion requires the War Master to do something, I don't think he would have done in any other story. It kind of reminds me of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat. Shang Tsung is an unrivalled genius in most of his solo stories but the second that Quan Chi comes intot the fold, he immediately dribbles on his shirt. I felt it had a similar issue as that. I don't think the War Master would have been as gullible in any other story but it was the only way that someone could outsmart him. When two great intellects clash, I feel like a better resolution could be achieved than one just being lobotomized to make the other look more impressive.

I genuinely thought ‘Alone’ was 10/10 and probably the best single story in this range. It’s successfully made me emotionally invested in the characters in a powerful way. ‘Manhunt’ did this to an extent too - I felt some of the parts dragged on, but the feeling of Allisons’ powerlessness under the Master and aliens control was effectively conveyed. I’d be interested to know what everyone thought was the meaning of the ending in ‘the Sublime Porte’. Why did Billis show the Master the Sublime Porte’s powers, only to reject him at the end?

So, I was a bit confused. I have not listened to any of these audiobooks. So, there is no separate Professor Yana from the Master. I was getting the wrong impression: that there was a legitimate Yana that gets replaced by the Master. But the Master spent most of a human life as Yana, and we get the story of this identity. That's really interesting if I have correctly: how long did the Master live this other life? From childhood to elderly human? That puts the Doctor's tragedy in Human Nature / The Family of Blood to shame.

At the end of the first war master box We see him become professor yana and he seems to have Reverted himself to an Infant and he was restored as an old man so a lifetime And he doesn't Care about a second of it all the good professor yana did burn away in an instant Well that got pretty deep and edgy
