The Master is probably the most interesting of the Doctor's classic enemies. Another renegade Time Lord who is the Doctor's evil opposite. He goes around sowing chaos and trying to gain power while the Doctor tries to help people and fix things. Sir Derek Jacobi, who plays Professor Yana, is a British acting legend, but probably not so well known in the US. His change of expression from kindly Professor Yana to the deranged Master is so good.

@@MuchWhitteringand there's more than just that one. It is annoying that this is the only one BBC considers a three parter even though all the other (non-official) three parters have a similar format. A singular episode doing it's own thing and is apparently standalone until something shocking happens in the last ten minutes which in turn makes it lead into the final two episodes. Like the big bad of this finale is the Master, but we don't get to be aware of him until this episode's final moments. Anyone who doesn't want spoilers, don't look further. But here are the stories which I consider as three parters... Series 3 finale I can see two possible ones for Series 4, but I don't really count them. To me, they're both three parters in the same way one could count S5 episode 11 leading into 12/13 to be one Series 9 finale The Monk trilogy in Series could count, but then you could also argue that it intertwines with the Doctor being blind Series 12 finale

In terms of individual antagonists the Master is the most iconic one for the Doctor going all the way back to his introduction vs the Third Doctor. The Doctor and the Master have a long and complicated personal relationship, which adds a layer to their interactions that the Doctor doesn’t have with many other enemies and none to the same degree. The Master fought The 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Doctors countless times from then on and changed with different regenerations, each more insane than the last Long story short he was The Doctor’s best friend growing up on Gallifrey, they were like brothers but they eventually walked down different paths and became archenemies.
