I met Jon once at a Doctor Who convention and we were chatting and was interrupted by Sylvester McCoy who walked over. Sylvester then sprung into a Worzel Gummidge voice and the two of them started to argue with each other both playing Worzel.

I was going to say that I bumped into Jon Pertwee but the fact is that he bumped into me at Paddington Station. After an apology, I just said to him. "The Navy Lark - I love it". He looked down on me beaming. "Really - What do you like about it". I told him that I loved the characters and that I had three favourites that I always listened out for. Ramona Povey, and his wonderful portrayals of Weatherby and Burwasher. Jon thanked me with his re[ly as Weatherby which had me in tears of laughter. He thanked me and said he had to move on. An unforgettable man and to me just a great a gentleman as seen in these clips.

SJKPJR007 he saw us after the show when he was clearly very worn out and he was gracious and patient with a bunch of awe-struck kids who didn’t even know what to say to him. Haha. A genuinely lovely man who is greatly missed.
@SJKPJR0074 жыл бұрын
@@Problembeing Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was due to see him in that stage play when it came to Newcastle. I was so excited! Sadly, he became unwell and had to pull out for a spell by the time the show reached the North East. Luckily, Colin Baker stepped in. It wasn't quite the same but I was still delighted because I was one of the few who really loved Colin's Doctor. However, it was Jon Pertwee that was 'my' Doctor, if you know what I mean. Yes, very much missed. Gone but not forgotten.
@Problembeing4 жыл бұрын
SJKPJR007 it was my pleasure to talk to a true Whovian :) My school was worth all the bullying because it had the best school DW club in the country, we had regular visits from cast, crew, production and even JNT himself, and we went to the dress rehearsal of Ghostlight as well as getting to see Jon Pertwee premier with reprising his role as undeniably one of the greatest incarnations of The Doctor (though Tom was ‘my’ Doctor, which I think I can be forgiven as having as my first choice), it was my history teacher who ran the club that introduced us to Pertwee’s incredible Doctor on VHS copies of copies (some still in B&W) long before official release, some of which had been missing episodes at the time. That was my true education. Pertwee will always be right up there with Tom for me, there’s not much to separate their beguiling charms and sophistication. I am truly sorry you didn’t get to see him, but I’m sure Colin was a real treat nonetheless and I hope you still enjoyed the rather whacky staging :D I used to live down the road from Wimbledon Theatre and one day I was walking home past the open gates to the backstage area and they had struck the set and there was a battered and what looked to be abandoned TARDIS prop... My god, the temptation to drag it home was overwhelming, but I didn’t as it would probably have broken to bits by the time I got it down the road, but you know what, I regret not trying!
@SJKPJR0074 жыл бұрын
@@Problembeing Thank you so much for the "true whovian" accolade. Coming from a clear devotee such as yourself that means a lot. I'm so sorry to hear your school days had such challenges for you. However, I am relieved you at least had what sounds an utterly incredible network of escape from those trials and tribulations. I love all the classic Doctor's. Though I have to confess Tom Baker did take some getting used after the very straight and traditional hero portrayal by Jon. And when he did his cameo in 'The Day of the Doctor' I was in bits. Silly fool that I am. Take care, stay safe and "Who knows (nose), eh?"

Remember a DW convention where at his autograph table, if I remember correctly he was only signing purchased photographs. Some folks moaning. Did they not realise he could had been between work and this was his bread & butter. No problem for me. Met him and he didn't let me down. Sometimes it is alright to meet your heroes. When I said the photograph was to be signed for then partner, he enquired DW fan? I replied no Worzel' instantly 'Ooo' er she is, is she' or some other Worzel' expression. Delightful. Smiles all around. He enjoyed the adulation and so he should' worthy of it. He was a lovely gentleman.
