I met Tom Baker in the late seventies and he was the perfect gentleman. He was signing books while wearing the Who costume in the height of the Australian summer. He was sweating profusely in the heat while wearing heavy wool, but he soldiered on and was kind and patient with the fans. I'll never forget that day and his characterization will always be the definitive WHO for me.

Still kills me that Jon Pertwee in the late 80's used to come to a convention near my relatives, often in full costume. This is just “my take” of Tom Baker, whom I don’t know: Tom’s a master of revealing just enough of himself to never be pinned down. One feels they know him, without anyone (but perhaps those closest to him) really knowing him. A social escape artist (at least as a public figure) to the hilt. Very healthy boundaries. He found a way to keep his private life private, and for everyone to love him, and love his good natured charm and winking mysteriousness. As a fan, I say good for him!

He's not my Doctor, but he still is THE Doctor. This man deserves a knighthood. He's a treasure.

I have never wanted to be an old man more than seeing Tom there. I just want to be Tom so bad! Imagine the stories he has, the loving fans. The word is his oyster.

he's such a lovely man, may he keep living, I think he is very much the best docter, because he was just his lovely british eccentric self.

Such a delightful man. Charming, intelligent, thoughtful, and entertaining. And a genuine eccentric. Good on him.

When I was about 5 years old living in New York we didn’t have cable for a bit so maybe a few channels is all we had. Some of my first television watching memories was watching him as the doctor... I was transfixed by him! In a way it ruined cartoons after because I felt I had evolved beyond the cartoon... Tom will always be my Doctor!

He didn't want to speak to me when I saw him in a pub. I got fuck off I'm having a pint. But I still love him to bits. Thanks Tom for the memories

What I wouldn't give to meet Tom Baker. I've remember being a little boy in the 80s and my dad watching doctor who. I'm now 36 years old and have been a fan of Doctor Who my entire life. I've been all over America and the world, I've been in the Army, been to war in Iraq and lived, I've been able to be there for the birth of my Son and STILL being able to meet Tom Baker would be the GREATEST moment of my life.

I once made an offhand reference to Doctor Who in the presence of my old boss and he said "I loved his scarf." Of course, he automatically thought of Tom when I mentioned Doctor Who. I think many people from my generation still act as though there was only one Doctor Who: Tom Baker. Older people like my mother do too. She always refers to Doctor Who as having curly hair and a long scarf.

What an absolute legend Tom Baker is and Nicholas Briggs too. The work you have out in for Big Finish and the main show deserves recognition.

I'm sure he stated quite dismissively in some other interview he hadn't any of the Dr's costume, he doesn't let the truth get in the way of a good yarn tho hehe (and we love him for it)

Tom Baker is, was, and always will be, the quintessential Doctor Who character for all time. He could have played the character on screen literally for decades, and yet still would have seemed perfect for the role. No one else who played the role before him, or since his departure, even come close. Bless him.

The definite article :). Already starting to travel his era and I can see why he is the most memorable. The Pertwee and Tom eras were magical times.

My introduction to Tom Baker was as Puddleglum. I didn't discover Who until 2005 with Eccleston. But the Doctor for me was first a Marsh-Wiggle. And Absolutely superb at that.

I saw him in that role after I had seen him as Dr.Who. I agree. He was great in that role.
