Nice to see you so excited for the RTD2 era... I am too :) BTW, the Celestial Toymaker was a classic villain who appeared in a 1st Doctor story in 1966, and I'm very much looking forward to Neil Patrick Harris bringing him back. I'm sure he'll be great in the role.

I would LOVE to see Nathan Fillion in Doctor Who. He's Canadian, isn't he? I could think of a bunch of actors, who I would love to see in Doctor Who. However, I have to strongly disagree on Neil Patrick Harris. I'm sorry. I can totally respect you fangirling over him, I'm a fanboy of certain characters myself and not ashamed to admit it. 😅 But! In my humble opinion, Harris has so far sucked in every role I've seen him in except Barney Stinson. Maybe it's me and I can't unsee Barney in him, but it was like that for me in Gone Girl, in A Million Ways To Die In The West and let's better not even start talking about Matrix Resurrections.... 😔🤦♂️ All misses for me. I haven't seen him in anything else yet though. But I'm pretty sure he's gonna overact the shit out of his role in Doctor Who, too. Judging by the pictures. Hopefully it works.....

What I think is going to happen: Jodie regenerates into Tennant at the end of the Centenary in a shock reveal and in 2023 we get 3 specials following the Doctor trying to figure out why he has an old face and he reunites with Donna and i have a hunch it is the Toymaker (played by NPH) influencing things as part of his games and this is also why Donna is able to remember the Doctor! I definitely think it will go something like this!

Agreed. Only yesterday I was rewatching a recording of Sophocles' play _Antigone_ starring Jodie Whittaker in the title role - with Chris Eccleston as the male lead! - and she was fantastic. It was a sobering reminder of how good she is when she's got decent writing to work with.

I avoid spoilers, so I didn't know all of that. Goodness, RTD is throwing the kitchen sink at Who - Ace Tegan National Treasure Wilf Toymaker (knew about him). Don't like Catherine Tate as a comedian, but she's the best companion by far(with DT). Rose Noble? Can't wait
@ReelMisfits2 жыл бұрын
Oh shoot, hope I didn't spoil too much! It's been all over my feeds lately. Her chemistry with David is what made that pair so great. The companion/doctor chemistry really makes or breaks the show. That's why I had such a hard time watching Jodie. The chemistry just wasn't there with her companions, in my opinion. It fell flat.

My own prediction is that Jodie will regenerate into Ncuti. David Tennant will play the half-human "meta-crisis" Doctor. He'll team up with Donna's daughter, Wilf, and 14 to take down the Celestial Toymaker.

Hmm ok but then they would have to address what happened to Rose Tyler and her mom, which I would totally like to see.

@chanceneck80722 жыл бұрын
@@ReelMisfits Yeah and I also mean "scared" in terms of taking risks, you know? Having some balls, go get great scripts, tell some great stories, like in the "olden days" 😅. Like Silence in the Library. Stuff like that, that was awesome. I've had the feeling pretty much since Jodie and Chib took over, that all they ever did was reactionary. Kind of like what Disney did with the Star Wars sequels. I don't even wanna call them that, they're garbage movies, that I don't even wanna acknowledge, but they totally did what they did with the public reception and the viewers already in mind. Ask anyone! You should never do that! Go write some captivating story. RE-WRITE!!! Moffat did that like hundreds of times according to him. I know, he's divisive but to me he's still the best writer and showrunner, we ever had so far. I'll admit, that I'm a bit of a Moffat fanboy and he's far from perfect. But at least he would admit that. If you ask a Rian Johnson for instance if he regrets any decision he made on Star Wars, he'd still say "no"! That's so ridiculous in my eyes. And you could say something similar about Doctor Who over the past.... maybe 10 years? Of course, I still have strong believe that the show can still become better than it ever has been and my trust is within Ncuti. But I could be wrong. The most important thing is that the showrunners must have faith in themselves! They must have strong faith in their stories they wanna tell and they must love doing it and putting everything together.

Also, I'm delighted that you're loving the Ms Marvel. I haven't had a chance to see it; however, I know the comic was fantastic, and if you can find yourself represented by only one comic character, it's hard to do much better than Kamala Khan. For my money she's the best new character to emerge in comics in the 21st century. From what I've seen, the best new characters in comics tend to not be straight white guys of Christian background, and I really think that not being a straight white vaguely Christian guy means there is a lot of uncharted territory to explore. Let the exploration begin! Just limiting this to Green Lanterns, I'm happy to have my Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner (typical white guys), but I'm also glad that John Stewart has been around for like 50 years now, and has lately been joined by Jessica Cruz and Jo Mullein. (There is also Simon Baz, but I feel like he's from the school of "slap attributes together and hope people like him". At least I've never been able to get a feel for him; maybe someone's figured out how to breathe life into him. I leave it to you to decide whether there's anything in him that speaks to you; he's another Muslim character but AFAIK he's no Kamala Khan.)

I'm thrilled that this new era of Marvel is so diverse. I really loved Eternals for that. There are literally so many scenes in Ms. Marvel that I can directly relate back to my life (outside of the superhero stuff obviously lol). It just feels so cool to connect with something so much.

The Celestial Toymaker is an eternal he was a villain during William Hartnell's time as The Doctor way back in 1966 sadly that story except part 4 no longer exists. No Ncuti Gatwa was confirmed on the news as that he was 14 regardless of what people are saying that he isn't even if Jodie does regenerate into Tennant it's temporary and he's still the Tenth face in the line of The Doctor so no he will still be called 10 regardless I'm personally not happy with the de-generation idea I think it's an insult to the Smith/Capaldi/Whittaker eras because to me it feels like RTD is trying to do a reset button with Tennant's ending like delete that part of the canon and just pick up where the End of Time happened I would had been fine with Donna's return if it was a past Donna but it looks like it's taking place after that event so I'm not happy about that as it will ruin the emotional arc ending it feels like RTD is trying to create a happy ending that takes the reality away sometimes you can't have happy endings.
@ReelMisfits2 жыл бұрын
I worry about that too. Donna had one of the best endings out of any companion. I know they are trying to revive the show and bring back old fans but I hope they don't try too hard. I would like to see a parallel universe or lost memory so we can keep the original storyline in place.

Instead of the casting the new Rose I would rather have a confused Mickey start wearing a dress. And this is how it would go down... Before Dr. Karen regenerates she thinks it would be nice to repay Mickey in sex for stealing Rose away long ago. Mickey is pounding her from behind so hard it triggers her to regenerate back into 10 as the ultimate prank on Mickey! Mickey is so disturbed by the events he begins to question everything in life and starts wearing a dress and applying red lipstick sloppily around his mouth, calling himself Rose. The end.

I have a theory as to why "Doctor Who" fans are always disappointed with the current Doctor: because there are so few truly definitive "Doctor Who" stories. You need not only a story that makes really good use of time travel, but is also engaging on the personal level and offers proper closure at the end. That's a tough job, which is why, towards the end of every season of "Doctor Who", fans have decided that the current season is the worst ever. Let me contrast with "Star Trek: The Next Generation": you want to write a good TNG story, you just need the Enterprise to encounter some situation where the moral thing is also the impractical thing, but Picard makes a stirring speech about ethics, Data is endearingly selfless, and Worf is grumpy but you know he's also a soft-hearted guy who loves his prune juice. Relatively easy to crank out a good story like that. But with "Doctor Who", you've got to come up with a mind-blowing concept, then find some way to develop that concept so that it turns into a good story. Stephen Moffat is one of the few guys who could do that on the regular (The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances / The Girl in the Fireplace / Blink / old-new-borrowed-blue / Mummy on the Orient Express / Heaven Sent), and even then there were a lot more misses than hits when he was running the show.
@ftumschk2 жыл бұрын
Interesting idea, and I don't think you're too wide of the mark. BTW, Jamie Mathieson wrote "Mummy", so I'll swop it for Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, another mind-blowing Moffat classic, and I might also add World Enough & Time and even A Christmas Carol, arguably the best Christmas Special we've ever had. Hits like these made the middling stories and occasional outright "misses" worth putting up with. The problem I have with the current era is that Chibnall and his writing team didn't give us a single story of the same calibre as, for example, "Blink" or "Midnight". Now, I've enjoyed many Chibnall era stories ("Demons of the Punjab" made it into my personal Top 20), but none of them have impressed me to the same extent as the best of Series 1-10.
@kingbeauregard2 жыл бұрын
@@ftumschk As far as I'm concerned, the Rosa Parks episode alone justifies the Chibnall run, if for no other reason than it takes a subject that would be very easy to mishandle, and gets it absolutely right. I also think Chibnall gets the character interactions well in ways where RTD or Moffat could get clunky at times. Another thing Moffat is good at - and "Christmas Carol" is a great example - is that he finds ways to adapt existing stories or existing genres and fit "Doctor Who" into them. That's a pretty good trick! Doesn't always make people happy though; I happen to love "The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe", and I may be the only person who does. Another great Moffat adaptation: "The Return of Doctor Mysterio". Dude managed to blend Doctor Who with the superhero genre, and made it work. He let the superhero-y parts operate in superhero-y fashion, and the Whovian parts operate in Whovian fashion. Not many people could have pulled that off. Though I think the Doctor is mistaken about Clark Kent and Superman being the same person; Clark Kent needs glasses, and if he were also Superman, it would mean that Superman couldn't see; it just doesn't make any sense.
@ftumschk2 жыл бұрын
@@kingbeauregard Rosa was good, but was rather let down by a lame villain, which I suspect was a "sci-fi" addition by Chibnall to Malorie Blackman's fine script. Which reminds me that neither Rosa nor Demons were written by Chris Chibnall. I also enjoyed Doctor Mysterio very much, and I think Doctor/Widow/Wardrobe is rather charming and underrated, even if I don't think it's one of Moffat's best. It helps, I think, to see Widow/Wardrobe through the eyes of a child, and the same trick works for me with Forest of the Night. (The latter is by Frank Cottrell Boyce, of course, but the same point applies.)
@kingbeauregard2 жыл бұрын
@@ftumschk I see "Widow" as a bookend to that Cybermen story with James Corden: Corden's was about fatherhood, "Widow" was about motherhood. Beyond which, Moffat did as he often does: established themes and characters early, played them to their proper conclusion. In this particular case, Madge takes care of those who are lost and gets them home: the Doctor, her kids, the trees, even her husband. (The theme of her husband following her home, too, was leveraged although it didn't emerge until late in the story.) The villain in "Rosa" wasn't much of a villain, true enough. On the other hand, the people of Montgomery were the scariest monsters I've ever seen on "Doctor Who".
