I'm looking at that park and I'm kind of sad. Looks like it's an absolutely beautiful day, and you're the only person in sight. no other people, not even any toughs spinning Will Smith around. I very much get why doing stuff indoors is simpler and fun, but I also feel like something has been lost. Wait ... you aren't the playground bully, are you? Everyone knows not to mess with your turf?

Hmm, I think you’ve misjudged the episode tbh. Take another look. You’ve got a great take on it in many ways, but the key aspects are addressed. Rénette is shown to be an intellect -and perceptive, humane and pretty sympathetic. the Doctor has his mid invaded a bit, but as shown in The End of the World, The Tardis does that too.

Trailer looks AMAZING!! Am so excitine - and great review :) ...my inner pedant however is desperate to say that the "butterfly effect" I think is the name of a book and refers to chaos theory in the present rather than deep-time (I think the example was a butterfly flapping its wings and that being part of a causal chain leading to a thunderstorm happening on the other side of the word). Coincidentally (or for purposes of poetry) Ray Bradbury used stepping on a butterfly in the dinosaur age to cause changes in the present in a way that used a huge amount of artistic license. But "the butterfly effect", as far as I'm aware, isn't really a time travel reference - but a related issue around chaos theory and causation.

... between you and me, the 80s are best remembered nostalgically, and not lived through. I graduated high school in 1985, so my teen years were about as 80s as you can get. My experience was, it was a decade where superficiality and selfishness were what we considered virtues, and entertainment was shiny but shallow. Our fears of nuclear annihilation were so rampant that Atari released a hit arcade game about all of us dying as ICBMs rained down on our cities. This is not even getting into the technology of the 80s. Today we are so spoiled, so delightfully spoiled, by computers and how far they've come. If you were lucky back in the 80s, you had access to a PC running an 8088 processor; if you were particularly well off maybe you had an 80286. It took until the late 90s before computers were doing more than 640k of memory without some gyrations (extended memory / expanded memory / etc). No Internet speeds to speak of, no Google, and there sure as heck wasn't any KZbin. Every era has its problems, but I think I'll take today over the 80s in a heartbeat. I think we're slouching towards something better, while the 80s really felt like the triumph of the worst in us but with a shiny veneer.

I'm SUPER nervous about not liking Donna's goodbye this time around. Also, I'm really glad they took all the Asian slurs and stereotypes out of NPH's character. And Wilf's last outing. I'm gonna cry I think....
@IlikeTrainsguy100 Жыл бұрын
How is celestial an Asian slur? Words can have more than one meaning and celestial means anything to do with space/the stars or anything mystical etc, which is incredibly fitting for the character. Also, there have been characters called celestials in Marvel AND Doctor Who itself in the last few years.
@firefly24601 Жыл бұрын
@@IlikeTrainsguy100 If he was called the Celestial Toymaker and dressed as anything BUT an Imperial-era Chinese palace official, then you might have a point. But it's clear the character is dressed Chinese. And "Celestial" is a slur referring to Chinese people from the first half of the 20th century.
