cg guy Actually, the man who writes this series hates that ship. He didn't at first, but with the backlash TimeBubble shippers give towards anything that doesn't ship the two together, Pierce has grown to hate the ship as a whole. I've heard of shippers even sending death threats to people who don't have the two together. So yea, doubtful Derpy and the Doctor will be a thing in this.

You don't necessarily have to enjoy the show to be a brony. There are plenty of bronies (although some prefer the term 'fan' because the word 'brony' may evoke some negative emotions from others) who don't enjoy the show or the toy franchise but enjoy the fan-made content. If this interests you then perhaps check out the Doctor Whooves fanfics or something and see if that would interest you in the fan-made content.
