The atlas is the first cervical vertebra, commonly called C1. It is an atypical cervical vertebra with unique features. It articulates with the dens of the axis and the occiput, respectively allowing rotation of the head, and flexion, extension and lateral flexion of the head. Unlike the rest of the cervical vertebrae, with exception to the similarly structured axis (C2), the anterior rami are sent posteriorly instead of anteriorly.

Good video. To be honest , you should evaluate me . I was in a motor vehicle accident, and My C1 was broken at the tubercle of the anterior arch of C1, and I have aggenisis of the posterior of C1 . For a year and a half no one properly treated my injury , and now with the instability of my neck , I keep throwing my self into Tachacardia , and my defibrilator has discharged 24 times in a 2 year period . No one here in the states will touch me

Very nice video - can you do one with flexion / extension facts - such as C1 Spinous Process (SP) Articulation with the Occiput? I'm sure that the space between the Occipital Bone & C1's SP should always remain spaced? Or does it touch on flexion?
