Dr Cliff I think you should speak in front of congress explaining how there should be these standards that you are talking about. Explain to them that not following best practices can and many times will render the best most expensive hearing aids unless. Explain the cost of hearing aids and how their technological effectiveness can easily be wasted and not provide the proper hearing enhancements to the consumer. Maybe this could result in federally mandated procedures that must be followed in order to dispense hearing aids. Also this would require the training of the provider.

There are audiologist out there who follow best practices who are not in your network. That should be made clear, just because an audiologist isn’t in your network (that they have to pay to join), it does not mean they do not follow best practices.

You know, it's actually kind of scary to realize how many audiologists and other hearing specialists currently do not follow best practices. 😮

Costco does. But Cliff won’t mention that because he can’t get his cut. Costco also has a rigorous training course their specialists go through at no charge. Something similar to what Cliff wants to start for all the audis that just worry about commission and sales. He just wants to expand his network to get dollars. If he really cared about helping the most people he’d send them to the people who mandate best practices across the board; Costco. But instead he complains about insurance not paying him enough.

@@Benji_Hears To be fair, his clinic, and the staff, have bills to pay too and Costco is the 120 million member gorilla in the room. No reason why we can't have a competing network helping to get the best for patients.

A good starting point is mentors and mentorship. Give prospective members a mentor (or a choice of mentors) they can call upon for advice and guidance. The mentor doesn't even need to be in the same geographical area and the mentee to provide assistance. Oftentimes getting started is simply a question of finding one person to answer questions and bounce ideas off.

I go see a best practices audiologist today in Michigan, Dr Inman, hoping for a good experience

I have to say that my experience with audiologists are that the good professionals don’t seem to stay in one location very long. I had a excellent audiologist who served my father and me. He even came to serve my Dad while he was in the hospital. But suddenly disappeared and retired to Florida. I now go to a Audiology Service that keeps moving! The only reason I continue to follow these people is because they offer warranty service for my Phonak Hearings Aids. But they don’t offer anymore than sales and service of hearing aids.

I drive 45 miles one way for my Hearing up AUD, so a larger network would be great. I'm sure I dont need to tell a Marine Scout Sniper how to prioritize! You will have to do that and decide what's most important. I like the idea of expanding your network and you will need to develop a comprehensive training program to do it. Perhaps including some type of certification as well. And you will need help to do that. But it does sound like you are on the right track. I have had conversations with my AUD about comprehensive best practices (CBP )not being a suggestion, but rather the minimum mandatory service required, as they should be. But that's another thing for you take on later with Congress and your professional organizations that needs to be pushing for it. Anything less than CBP should be grounds for malpractice. Thanks for your content!

What information do you have on Miracle Ear Hearing Aids & audiologist?

Will that be hearing Australia in may ?

What be done is buy the hearing aids. And separate the cost service from heating cost. By a plan or pay per visit. And go where you want to buy and go where want for service. Insurance should say we pay this much for a doctor visit, and you pay the rest.

* Distance learning followed by a one day (?) certification in major locations. * In time have more localized certification sites by providers you trust. The initial training would be on the shoulders of a few, then the training team would grow.

The VA has their own practices and seldom follow them either. I wish they would listen to you and do it correctly. Unfortunately, they have a practice that is their own and it is not consistent and they don’t talk as they do so you can understand specifically what they are doing and why.

Our clinic follows best practices and we wouldn't mind being a part of your network. However, we can't afford your fee. Your fee to be included as a member will never be a possibility for us. So, I appreciate that you have a problem, but so do we..... some of us would like to be a part of your network, but can't.

Why don't we put together our own "Mini-Conference" that's focused on best practices? Sure, they should be getting this in their university training and are probably exposed to it when they go for continuing education courses, like at AAA and ADA. But how about one focused solely on best practices, with hands-on with equipment, presentations, etc. Maybe do it as a "Weekend Best Practices Academy." Let's collaborate, Cliff.

Thank you for the tips I've gotten from your many episodes! Reluctantly I have to go through TruHearing in a couple weeks but I do have a good baseline test from last August to contrast with the results of this new clinic. I am mild to moderate and mostly reduced in one ear, and it looks like one of my choices can be the Resound Nexia 9 so I will angle towards that to get me the best outcome with some future proofing for the next few years. Sadly while the Truhearing model is the best value there is basically no information about it. It is likely the best for the insurance company rather than me.

I am currently wearing hearing aids that I purchased from a clinic that is part of the hearingup network. The audiologist that fitted and programmed my first set of hearing aids did an excellent job. Then after years of wearing them, it was time to upgrade them. I did my own research and decided on several different hearing aids, I thought were best. The audiologist that fitted my first set of hearing aids no longer practices out of the clinic. After setting up a demo pair of hearing aids, Resound and wearing them for a couple of weeks I really did not like them compared to my older Phonak’s. I suggested we try the latest model of Phonak and they ordered them. When they came in the owner of the clinic fitted the new Phonaks and it seems to be a lot better. This is the third time this clinic has had turn over and the owner of the clinic got involved. At this point I feel the HearingUp network is meaningless.😢

My point of my comment is to demonstrate that the gold star of being a hearing up member for a clinic is pointless if all of the Dr in the clinic don’t have the passion of excellence hearing health care.
