Learn why I ALWAYS wear sunglasses! Here is a list of ways sunglasses protect your eyes and vision that you didn’t know about! ***** Check out polarized sunglasses from Christopher Cloos here: bit.ly/3mEZ7wI
Sunglasses are not only a great fashion accessory and helpful for reducing light sensitivity (photophobia), but there are also many health benefits of sunglasses. That is exactly why I wear sunglasses.
Sunglasses SHOULD protect against ultraviolet light (UV light) and this helps prevent many different eye diseases and eyelid diseases from developing.
Timestamps for why you should wear sunglasses:
UV Light Protection (What is UV light) - 1:31
Sunlight Causes Cataracts - 2:22
Sunlight ages and thins your eyelids - 3:12
5-10% of skin cancer is on the eyelids - 3:42
Photokeratitis (snow blindness) - 4:02
Pterygium (Surfer's Eye) - 4:45
Corneal Healing from LASIK Eye Surgery - 5:16
Migraine headaches and photophobia - 6:13
Polarized vs non polarized sunglasses - 6:44
If you are not sure if your sunglasses protect against UV light, look for anything labeled UV400 or "full UV light protection" or contact the manufacturer.
This video was made in partnership with Christopher Cloos Eyewear. They are a Danish eyewear company with high quality products and good company values and would recommend them to all my friends and family. I only collaborate with companies I think will be of value to our viewers.

At age 63 I still have 20/20 vision even though I have lived and played in some very harsh environments. From the snows of Alaska and Canada, to the ocean, to the desert southwest. Also, for the past 35 years I have lived at 7000 ft. and routinely am above 10,000 ft. I have always credited my continuing good eyesight to the fact that I have worn good, high end sunglasses all my adult life.

Money and genetics also play a part. Almost my entire family tree wears glasses. Also, no glasses in the world will save you if you do not avoid diabetes (this is more of a general advice, because of what I have seen in life up to this point). May you always have 20/20 vision, it is underrated.

@@javviii basically any brand will do, you just need to make sure the frames fit ok and the lenses are UV-protected either by the material itself or by protective coatings. Also, good quality lenses should block the reflected UV light on the inner side of the lens. Mountaineer's type of glasses tend to have "blinders" on the sides of frames or the frames designed in a particular way in order to block the side light, that's also important. For some harsher light conditions like mountains or hills you may need cat 4 lens tint (however those are usually too dark for driving though). Trivex and polycarbonate and indexes from 1.6 block UV innately. However, Trivex is considered better optical quality, however, if you don't need prescription glasses all types of lens material will be ok.

My eyes are pretty sensitive to light. I always have tinted windows and wore cheap sunglasses before all the time. 6 months ago I got some prescription sunglasses. They are polarized with all the coatings. AR, Blue blocking, anti scratch , everything they offered. When I put them on for the first time I almost started crying because the world looked to beautiful. I just felt like that was how life was meant to be seen. My eyes felt relaxed for the first time I could remember

I wear my regular prescription glasses any time I am outside. They have polycarbonate lenses which filter over 99% of both UVA ana UVB. I haven't worn sunglasses since high school. I noticed that during the summer when I wore them my pupils were not as adaptive to varying levels of light, and this would cause headaches at times. Ditching the sunglasses took care of the problem.

My wife bought me a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators and I still have them. I only ever used cheap clip on sunglasses before and didn’t know that good sunglasses make a huge difference. Totally worth the money to protect your eyes especially when you spent a bunch to get ‘em fixed. Thank you kindly for sharing this video. Favorite was about cataracts. I now know the sun can play a part in them. I were prescription glasses that have tint in them all the time. No transitional but all the time dark because of migraines that now I don't get anymore. When I go outside I put a pair of sunglasses over the top of my prescription glasses. It helps me a lot. I'm fair skinned and have a freckle in my eye. Maybe wearing shades keeps it from popping stronger like the ones on my arms do if exposed to the sun. Hope you have a wonderful week. 🌷🌷

I wear my prescription sunnies 90% of the time. Polarized lenses are the BIZ. But I just got cataract surgery and things are now much sharper. It does not appear that my eyes are any more light sensitive than before the surgery, so it was a success. Polarized lenses can totally block the image on digital displays. I'm told pilots are not allowed to wear them because of this. They also can block, or cause color shifting, in simple car displays, and make passing vehicles actively shift glass colors on the road. Not a panacea, unless you are fishing.

I've read that the human retina is sensitive to UV light, but the UV light is filtered by the lens before it reaches the retina (and some people with a missing lens can see UV light). I'm guessing the fact that the lens effectively absorbs UV light in that way is what you mean when you say that UV light "cooks" the lens? It sounds like it is absorbing the energy of UV light.

Not only to protect, but a very obvious 'show stopper' that people will ALWAYS notice when you are walking outside/indoors/etc. Eyes are so precious and we only got a pair. I have a slight damage i guess on my left eye but that was from playing basketball before when someone's finger touched my eye on accident. depending on one's budget and if they like fancy things, you can spend literally thousands if you like to collect more than a pair of sunglasses lol.. the price and brand of a sunglass does matter since the quality/clarity are not as good vs high end shades that cost a couple hundred or more.

I wear sunglasses whenever I'm outside even when it's cloudy or winter because my eyes are so sensitive to any light. I keep my room dark during the day to and at night I turn on a shower light to see. I wear cheap aviators because they're all I can afford but they do good. I also require prescription glasses because of astigmatism and I also wear aviator style with those to. This video just made me want to wear sunglasses even more to be honest because I don't want cataracts in my eyes especially after my Gma had them and could barely see and the eye surgeon messed up one of her eyes. Sunglasses squad is here

I have been wearing sunglasses most of my life.. my first reason was to stop migraines.. if I go out without sunglasses I will build up into migraine... second I only wear shield sunglasses that wrap around my eyes... no light coming into sides... which acts as a strobe and triggers migraines... Sunglasses have saved me in my life and yes they look cool too. 😎

How important is it that they are shades (as opposed to colorless)? I live at a very high latitude with grey, dark winters. Plus, I'm an artist. I hate to lose light or colors when it's anything short of a blindingly bright, summertime day.

I have a rare retinal vascular disease and glaucoma in my early 20's. For a lot of last year I stayed inside and avoided the outdoors. When I did go outdoors, I had tremendous light sensitivity and could hardly see outdooors without sunglasses. I gradually increased my exposure to natural light and I now see much better in bright sunlight. Weren't our bodies designed to be exposed to natural light?

Thanks for another great video! Just wondering... do cheap sunglasses that you can buy at a local store for $5 or $10 but say that they have 100% UV protection protect your eyes as well as expensive glasses? (I realize that they aren't polarized, but just as far as UV protection.)
@DoctorEyeHealth
@DoctorEyeHealth 3 жыл бұрын
As far as uV goes, yes, cheap lenses provide just as good of UV light protection as expensive ones. It’s just the material, durability, lens quality, design and brand values you get different from the expensive ones.

@@DoctorEyeHealth Thanks, that's good to know! I almost always wear sunglasses outside because, otherwise, I can't help to keep from squinting. I also suffer from dye eyes (both types) and figure that wearing sunglasses might provide some protection from wind and help keep my tears from evaporating as quickly(?). It's good to know that the cheap sunglasses still provide good UV protection, because I can't afford the expensive ones! :)

@@DoctorEyeHealthAt my recent eye exam the Eye Doctor told me I have a freckle inside my eye and that these can become cancerous, so I need to have it checked every year. He also said I need to wear sunglasses. I do a lot of vegetable gardening and I find when I put on sunglasses the lenses make it too dark for me to see the tiny seeds and structures. I just can’t see the root structures and the tiny seeds when I’m wearing dark sunglasses. I end up having to take off the sunglasses to see. Will non-polarized sunglasses with light amber colored lenses that say they offer 100% UV protection be good enough protection for me from doing further damage to my eyes? And, aren’t there some polarized lenses that are light in color and still polarized so I can see?

Do you really need the dark tint, though? I'd like to wear sunglasses for protection, but without a noticeable reduction in light and ones that I can wear if I'm out on my motorcycle and it gets dark. One of the main reasons I'm looking for sunglasses is because I drive east in the morning and the sun is directly in my eyes when I'm driving. Not only does it significantly increase the risk of an accident, but I have to look almost directly into the sun to see things like stop signs and stop lights. I worry what this is doing to my vision. Where I live it almost NEVER gets cloudy (despite how cold it is).

Maybe if you are outside in the sun, otherwise no, it is not a good idea to wear them indoors unless your doctor recommends it, otherwise it can reduce your threshold for light sensitivity. Otherwise reading glasses or good quality blue blockers may help.
