We’ve been told over and over again that dairy is a great source of calcium; that milk makes healthy bones and we should drink it daily. I’m here to tell you that this is not true. Cow’s milk from conventionally raised cattle contains dozens of reproductive hormones, allergenic proteins, antibiotics, chemicals, inflammatory compounds, and growth factors, some of which are known to promote cancer. While humans are the only species that continue to drink milk after weaning, we have no biological requirement for this food. Moreover, the milk we drink today is not what our grandparents drank.
In this episode of my new Masterclass series, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about why we should avoid almost all dairy. We also discuss some of the popular myths about dairy, the types of dairy that are okay to eat, and much more.
Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry. His podcast, Dhru Purohit Podcast, is a top 50 global health podcast with over 30+ million unique downloads. the reason for this is the bad protein casein and the sugar lactose are both eaten up during the fermenting process. this is why sugar free greek yogurt and kefir is good for you. Just make sure it is organic and grass fed. absolutely no antibiotic, growth hormone cows that are eating genetically modified and hybridised corn

MS is an autoimmune disease, caused by damaged and sick and leaking guts, and this causes inflammation - in your brain, get your intestines healthy, introduce an elimination diet (gluten, dairy, maybe nightshades) , preferably go to a functional medicine doctor, he will help you find the root cause of inflammation, this disease is curable!!

Until people have any symptoms, they will not believe anything. Took me more than 4 years back and forth . Finally I figured out it is bread - gluten make all my joints muscle ache and pain sometimes I have my finger swollen only sometimes…. Because I don’t believe I have problems with gluten. When I don’t have gluten my body feel light and ache will take days slowly went away. I do believe different between organic and processed food . Because I try it both. Sometimes I will buy both of same food organic and non - organic. Taste have big differences.

Stopping Dairy transformed my life! I had a terrible problem with post-nasal drip and chronic diarrhea for years. I'd been to several different doctors, some of them internal medicine drs and specialists, and NOT ONE of them ever mentioned dairy might be a problem. Finally, a friend of mine mentioned that it might be the culprit, in conversation. I was desperate so I tried cutting out dairy and using lactase in the rare events when I would have a little dairy, like cheese, in something and the tummy problems totally disappeared, as did most of the nasal problems. Those even extended to my ears stopping up as if I was on an airplane. No dairy, and all that stopped! It was an astonishing cure for those ills.

@@LisaDabbs Oh Lisa, I hope it works for you!! The ONLY thing I did differently was to stop eating Dairy. That's it. (And just a note that might be of interest to you - because of that, I discovered a product - Bragg's is the one I use but it comes in a lot of different brands, and it's actually very good for you! -Nutritional Yeast - something I NEVER thought I would even try LOL. But it has a flavor very similar to Parmesan-Romano cheese, which I loved. Now I sprinkle it on everything just because it gives me that cheesy taste that I missed. And doesn't cause all the other problems. You might want to give it a try. I just know it was like being given my life back when I stopped eating Dairy and I so wished some of those doctors I asked about the problem would have had some basic knowledge about it years before!

The poison is in too few fiber from plants which spikes up blood sugar. The poison is too much fat. You speak like a diabetic and you are still diabetic, just paying attention to keep your blood sugars low. Lots of canned vegetables, dry cereals, industrial cow's milk that I never liked. But fortunately we also had a lot of fresh vegetables and meats so it was a fairly balanced diet and not as much toxic stuff like glyphosate. So I think we have to go back to pre-industrial times to be able to compare people who only used what god gave them, lol.

My Dr. Told her not to feed me milk because Asians don’t have the enzymes to digest it. We really are clueless that our DNA dictates what we can consume eating and what makes us sick. I find it interesting how people will gloat “that food doesn’t bother me” I was raised on fill in the blank. No where in nature except in humans do baby mammals drink milk after maturing. Thank you for illuminating the many reasons why a person should avoid most dairy products. We live in an industrial dairy farm zone. Consumers are largely unaware of the reality of dairy. The smaller, family farms are being bought out by European farmers fleeing strong regulations in their home countries. Our native parkland is being reduced to a monoculture of GMO corn poisoned by Roundup and synthetic fertilizer. Cows are now referred to as production units, milked to capacity and ground up into cheap hamburger when no longer useful. A recent Ag-gag law was passed in Alberta to prevent whistle-blowers or animal rights activists from exposing the price exacted upon these animals. You decide if this is right or not.

I’ve suffered from GERD ( gastroesophogeal reflux aka chronic heartburn) for twenty-six years. When the problem first started, a neighbor advised me to cut out dairy ( I couldn’t afford to go to a doctor). I cut out dairy for about twelve years. My GERD did not improve. One night, I had a craving for milk. I drank a glass and my stomach stopped hurting. Since than, I’ve consumed milk, cream, yoghurt and cheese every day. Though I still have GERD, it’s much less severe now. Cutting out dairy was the worst thing I could have done, and I plan on consuming it for the rest of my life. Incidentally, the modern heartburn drugs ( Prilosec, et al ), do absolutely nothing for me.

I've been considering eliminating all dairy, including butter. (I try to only buy pasture raised, grass fed goat milk butter when I can but often settle for organic butter and occasionally, I use (Mikko's) vegan cashew butter. What is your opinion on milk/cheese from sheep and goats, and vegan vs. real pastured cows milk butter? If I cannot verify that the animal is pastured, grass fed and from a non-industrial farm, is it safe to consume or better to forego dairy all together?

As far as Masai is concerned and their intake of milk and blood: I think Masai are also very mobile people and are herdsmen, they are almost nomadic. Consequently we need to consider the good effects of gentle exercise, while considering the ill effects of dairy- In case of the masai it may be possible that their exercise level negates major ill effects of dairy. Besides their cows are probably not pumped with hormones, but are grass fed- that is natural and wild. Lovely presentation.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2014 examined the relationship between dairy intake and stroke risk among Swedish men and women. The study followed over 74,000 participants for an average of 10 years and found that higher consumption of dairy products, particularly milk and fermented dairy, was associated with a reduced risk of stroke. The study suggested that the beneficial effects of dairy consumption on stroke risk may be due to the presence of certain nutrients, such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium, as well as the presence of probiotics in fermented dairy products (Larsson et al., 2014).

I'm a Northland New Zealand 3rd generation farmer and 13th generation hunter gatherer on our family land block. Milk is a huge part of our diet, we have it with cereal warm straight from the cow every morning just like my grandfathers generation did. We drink it, cook with it, have never had dairy product associated illnesses, PERIOD. The elders here age very well, skin doesn't wrinkle, hair does not thin or grey, very active and mobile. We live a physical farming and hunter gatherer lifestyle, consuming shellfish, fish, meat, vegetables, tree fruits, Manuka honey, bush berries and herbs etc from our mountain ranges and nearby harbour. Perhaps this is why dairy does not negatively affect our health? Or perhaps we have a tolerance? Or perhaps it's because we sing to and hug our cows when we milk them and in return they give us nutritious milk 😁 I love my cows lol❤️

Homogenized milk blends the fats into milk...pasturization is what kills the bacteria and good stuff in raw milk
@NamFlow

We are the only species on planet Earth that consumes milk of other mammals throughout our whole lives. Milk (the best source is our own mother) is for babies, not kids, adults and elderly. So saying there is "good stuff" in raw milk - of cow and other mammals - for us is really laughable. It is, for babies of the mammals until they reach certain age. Until they reach the age they don't need it anymore. Why do you think that a lot of people became lactose intolerant? Our bodies don't like that stuff, it's trying to fight against it. And lactose free milk is not the solution, the solution is to exclude milk from one's diet or look for other sources (non-dairy or vegetable milk).

I've been aware that dairy provokes an inflammatory response in me and I know better, but I do fall off the wagon-and roll down the hill. It's primarily half & half in my coffee, but I do love cheese. I have used A2 cow's half & half (finally found it) but didn't see a huge difference. Anyway, as it turns out, I cut all dairy again a day before this video was published. Yikes! Already so many improvements! (Yes, there are justifiably a lot of these: "!") After just 48 hours: A LOT less overall joint pain; I've lost almost 10 lbs (!!!), I slept much better last night, experienced the end of a bout of constipation, and my mood has really improved! I kinda wish there was a 12 step program for dairy as I'm not sure I can have that occasional cream in my coffee. I'm feeling so much better that I don't want it at all right now. I'm an RD and must point out there are whole cultures that survive on dairy. Like he points out, there is a difference. It's videos like this that make people think they know all the answers bc he cites some research others don't look up and read themselves. I avoid commercial dairy. I agree it's shit, so are milk alternatives just look at the amount of extra crap in the ingredients. It's important to realize he is speaking to mainstream industrial societies. There is room for small community farms where people treat cows appropriately and consume their raw dairy. This would be the best way to change the way we eat as a society. It's called cow sharing and may be possible to support small farms and healthier lifestyles to those that may not have access to raw dairy. Get commercial dairy out, we don't need it!

Regarding the safety of raw milk, here in Massachusetts, anyway, the state checks the levels of bacteria present (presumably the "bad" strains because raw milk has lots of great probiotics). If the farm where we buy our raw milk fails the test (which it does periodically) they are not allowed by law to sell it until it's retested and passes. Of course, this probably varies by state; some states might be the Wild West when it comes to raw milk, I have no idea.

I have been drinking around a half gallon of milk a day for the past 35 years of my life. I am now 79 and in good health. So much for that theory doc.

Why disregard raw, unpasteurized, organic dairy milk? Instead of saying avoid all dairy because we screwed it up, why not recommend locally sourcing your dairy from small farms the way they used to. There aren't any nutrients in modern processed milk, which is probably why the studies suggest that it is not beneficial. These studies likely don't apply to highly nutritious raw milk.

Agree - our marketing culture to draw people in is contributing. Wish the intent to get information out to help people outweighed the intent to draw watchers/$$$. This video could have been 10-20 minutes driving the point of what types of dairy to look for with an added point that some might not tolerate any. The point that some might not tolerate any dairy could be made, yet here, if you look at the title and the framing of the interview, it’s easy to get the impression we all need to eliminate all dairy. Our easy information access society, in reality, has become one where if you want to get clear proven data (with no or little opinion attached), you will spend hours and hours reading and listening to a large amount of opinionated filler. There are good pieces of info in there, and to find those pieces, I feel like I have to read and listen to several different opinions to (hopefully) get to what appears to be the truth.

@@wilson8378 but those aren’t coming from the inside of a cow.. smh the point is there is no need for it . Most people do it for the taste, and not for the nutritional value.

I agree that dairy from factory farmed animals is very unhealthy however organic raw milk is not unhealthy and should not be condemned if one chooses to consume it .Its not the dairy per say its the quality of the dairy that counts .

Dear Mark: The following is something I wrote in response to another podcast on dairy. My comment ended with a question that you just addressed. Thank you...jt =>>:> "I grew up on my family's Swiss dairy in California, ladling milk out of the cooler between the cows, the milking machine and the truck taking our milk to market. My mother's yogurt is still the best I've ever tasted. I'm about to turn 80 and I still eat cheese and still drink full fat milk. My concern is not with dairy itself, but the toxic things that are now fed and injected into cows, that are evident in the milk. I live in France where the conditions for that are somewhat better, but this is still a concern. I'd like to hear more about that...jt"

I think a little bit of organic yogurt a few times a week would be good for most people, there are studies to back that up also. You don’t have to go extreme and i all dairy and meat, just make it a small portion of your diet, and make the majority vegetarian such as fruits, and vegetables, lentils, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, and legumes. (Also taking into account your personal requirements such as avoiding anything you have a food sensitivity or allergy to)

Raw dairy is key. I avoid pasteurized dairy because of congestivity from pasteurized dairy. Also, with raw milk, I don't refrigerate it, I let it culture ferment at ambient room temperature. The milk can be drunken from fresh through till whenever, usually within a week or two.

My parents forced a large glass of milk on me as a child every day. There was a 2-3 year period where I would get terrible sore throats -- I wonder if the milk contributed to that, if it's true that ear infections were promoted by milk.
