Hormonal acne is often due to high insulin. If spironolactone works, it's insulin that's the real problem. Go keto diet for 6 weeks and see if things get better. My son cured his chronic acne at 22 by going zero carb. I saw that and also did the same thing and miracles, my acne gone in a week, after years on spironolactone. Doctor told me it was hormonal but not why my aldosterone was high. It's insulin that causes this. My blood glucose totally normal but only because higher insulin was keeping it there.

They say don't pop pimples but a lot of my pus-filled pimples get accidentally broken anyway so wouldn't it be safer to directly pop them properly
@christie42393 жыл бұрын
Have you seen those videos of needle extractions? That might be an option For my accidentally popped pimples I used benzoyl peroxide to wash it. Then a witch hazel and cover it with an acne patch like a hydrocolloid acne patch from Nexcare or Hero. It’s been helping my skin not scar and helping the “wound” heal properly by protecting the water barrier of the skin on top of preventing that crusty healing

Also I useWater Wipes Unscented (baby wipes) at work when I can’t make it to the sink. honestly though I use Water Wipes for everything especially when I was sick and preventing nose rashes from tissues. I basically replaced tissues with water wipes. I always have them with me. For the dryness try finding a moisturizer that doesn’t break out your skin (non comedogenic) brands that have been working for me Versed, Cerave, and LaRoche Posay. I use also these capsules that have aloe Vera/vitamin e in them that you cut open and it’s a lotion you can get at target in the pharmacy aisles. Drinking water will also help with that. I know us healthcare workers love coffee/caffeine but get that hydration in. It will change your skin.

@@sophiamia3026 The thing about hormones is, they are more closely linked than we really ever thought about. If one is out of whack it affects the others. Metformin can lower insulin and blood sugar levels in women with PCOS, stimulate ovulation, encouraging regular periods and lower the risk of miscarriage. It is not exactly designed for treating PCOS, but because many women with PCOS have insulin resistance, it can be used "off-label" in certain circumstances to encourage fertility and control the symptoms of PCOS.

As effective as benzoyl peroxide is for treating my acne, it DOES stain my face; it IS a bleaching agent. I don't know if the cleanser does, but the leave-on definitely does and it's only 2.7%. Over time, it turns the areas of application reddish and takes about a week of non-use to clear. It also stains my towels and my shirts. Even though I think I've washed it off thoroughly before toweling off my hands and face, my colored towels are all bleached. I now use only white towels, hand towels too. I've ruined SO many nice shirts and towels because of benzoyl peroxide. I basically now only wear white and black t-shirts as these colors seem to be most resistant to bleaching and am really careful when taking off my black shirts making sure they don't brush against my face when putting on or taking off. Up to this day, its efficacy at treating acne is incomparable in my opinion, even compared to Azelaic Acid, Adapalene and Tretinoin. The cleanser is a nice thing to have. If your acne is gone and you want to use Benzoyl Peroxide for maintenance, then the cleanser is a good option. It's much less irritating and it doesn't stain the fabric - I mean, my face never bleached anything that it touched when i used the leave-on version, but i know some people have a problem with this.

I’ve always had break outs once in awhile during menstrual periods. But this year, after staying home for more than an year. I realised I started having hormonal acne around my jawline which hurt. I tried salicylic acid (Paula) and retinoid 0.3% (ordinary). I’ve definitely seen improvement for the past two months but they are so stubborn and I’ll have a few big ones and a few little bumps every month which is just plain painful. :( Thanks so much for the information. Will def consider seeing a dermatologist when I can!

My sister had a great result with 10% niacinamide serum after 6months of her using it. So I was encouraged to try the product too. Knowing my skin got really sensitive, I first tried the 5% niacinamide serum, and the 30 ml last for just 1 month of usage for me. I find it nice because there is no noticeable purging that occurred, and I noticed the small dark spots got lightened. So I next bought the 60ml of 10% niacinamide serum then after a month I also tried adding 1% retinol serum gently in my night routine. And now, I can see the purging. Sometimes I feel discouraged to continue using it but I learned in this channel to be patient. And of course, I don't want my money spent to go to waste so I will still continue to use it until it is all consumed regardless of the result. XD

Video Suggestion: When to actually go to the dermatologist? And when is it a "try to get a skin check every x years but if you're low risk and a month late it's fine" and when is it "get the first available appointment with the first available derm you can find"?

I used benzoyl peroxide for years and it never bleached my hair, although it ruined many shirts and towels. I used regular 3% hydrogen peroxide as a toner (desperate attempt as a teen) and my hairline became bleached within a couple of weeks!

Could you do a video on birth control and hormonal acne? Which types of BC works best, which ones might make it worse, etc… Thanks!
@astracey1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, this! I feel almost positive the BCP that my pharmacy switched me out on (bc it's supposedly the same exact pill) is the cause of my sudden acne issues. I did not have much hormonal acne as a teen, and throughout life, I've only had normal acne from time to time, now I'm getting 1-4 pimples at a time. As soon as they clear up, it will only be about a week before they start coming back again. I finally figured out it had to be the BCP switch, I started researching & tons of peep said they were switched on the same & that's when they started having acne issues as well. They just sent me the original one so I'm hoping that fixes it. It's driving me insane.

hello, any update? how's your skin?
@allissa98022 жыл бұрын
@@user-cz3sh3dx1w Hey! So I’ve been trying to keep up with the routine face wash at night and in the morning. However I’ve definitely slacked off on using Differin. I mainly used it because I have blackheads that never go away no matter what I do. But it was making my skin dry and kind of sore, so I started using it once every couple days. Now I forget to use it at all. I’m not the best person to give a report on differin. But I highly suggest CeraVe face wash (I use the foaming one) and am/pm lotion! ETA: My skin is about as clear as it was to begin with (I don’t get many breakouts, some here and there), but I do notice my face being less oily than before. That’s a huge plus, even if I still battle my blackheads.

Combining AHA with retinoids? For someone who has been comfortably using adapalene, azelaic acid and niacinamide nightly for more than one year but still has texture, would it be okay to add a later of glycolic acid a couple of nights a week?

You two are amazing! Absolutely love how informative all of these videos are. As someone who has struggled with acne for quite a while now, always struggled with one thing specifically. So, whenever I got anything prescribed by a dermatologist, they would mostly not know themselves how exactly it's supposed to be used. So, my dermatologist would give me something like epiduo forte which is very strong, without any explanation on how to use it and then were surprised when my skin became red and sensitive and was peeling (I heard similar stories from different derms as well). Could you guys do an explanation of all the acne medications that are prescribed and a step by step on how to use them (on the daily weekly and monthly outlook) like how to introduce the product correctly etc. (specifically asking for Epiduo but also duac acne)

Since the first time I asked for a sulphur video last fall to today, my sulphur use has decreased because my skin has healed so much... from using a good routine, which included sulphur several times a week in the beginning to now being used once a week, if that, just_in_case_it_was_the_key_to_preventing_my_acne. Would still love to learn what you have to say about it though. :D

Loved this video! Thank you for talking about hormonal acne. I have a question for you all. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in June and since my OBGYN recommended that I take my birth control for several months before having a cycle I've noticed that my face is flaring up with acne and texture. Do you think that taking the birth control four months in a row is causing this? I always learned that birth control was supposed to help acne. Thank you both so much!! Love your channel 🥰

Can acne be related to nutrition (dairy, sugar, fat)? And what are the reasons that acne sometimes returns after a course of accutane, even several years after? Also, can supplements break you out? (my personal experience is that hair supplements containing biotin *might* be breaking me out). PS: I love your data driven approach and sound advice! Keep it up!
@chlbo97633 жыл бұрын
I can't say for certain but In my experience with hormonal acne, dairy and sugar effects it a lot. When I have phases of eating lots of sugar and dairy, I think especially because of the hormones in dairy, I have acne flare ups on my chin. I have reduced my dairy intake but my hormonal acne hasn't completely gone. I'm going to start using a stronger cleanser that has salicylic acid in it as wearing a face mask all day, I get sweaty and really oily along my T zone and chin.

@@chlbo9763 Hi please can you tell me if I can use some alternative for sugar, some sweetener or eat fruit? I’ve recently completely cut out sugar and dairy, but I find it hard to not eat sweets 😔
@chlbo97633 жыл бұрын
@@kateausten904 sweeteners are a good option if you like them, I personally don't, so whenever I crave something sweet I try to have something that has little sugar in them. I tend to eat dark chocolate if I crave chocolate as there is less milk and it's also contains magnesium. I also drink a lot of tea so if I start wanting sugar I occasionally add a natural honey to sweeten my tea. Also eating fruits which are sweet like apples is a good option. Although blueberries aren't sweet I try to eat them as they appear to help my acne as well. And although changing my diet and eating better has helped my acne quite a lot, I do still find that diet doesn't completely stop me from getting hormonal acne. So recently, along with a healthy diet I have started taking a vitamin B complex which is also significantly helping with my acne as well as a healthier diet. My acne is clearing up a lot and I find that I am focusing more on treating acne scars more then anything now although I do still get the occasional spot, my acne has definitely improved a lot by doing these things.

What are your thoughts of using Diluted apple cider vinegar to treat acne? I have used it for years and diluted it with water so it is not as harsh and use it to help with any bad bacteria and as a toner.
