To anyone reading. I have had this my whole life, here is my experience. In the 70s the doctors told my mom it was metabolic syndrome. Im 52 and do not have metabolic syndrome or diabetes. But I am sensitive to sugar, so there is something there, and I have vitamin deficiencies. A normal weight is super important, if your over weight it will never go away and the more overweight the worse it gets. Regular exfoliating with almond scrub helps. Low sugar diet with a whole food diet helps. Get you vitamins checked and supplement any deficiency. Good luck 👍

I was never diabetic, pre diabetic, but I think I definitely had insulin resistance and for sure PCOS. I’m working on it by switching to a whole food based diet, eliminated excess added sugar, cut out fast foods that are deep fried and highly processed foods. Lost 25 pounds and I can feel the wrinkles in the back of my neck become less deep and smoother. I never had deep pigmentation but I could feel how thick the skin was. Anyway it’s improved so much after dropping the weight. Once you have your insulin under control, there’s so much disease prevention and remission that can happen! Wishing everyone here best of luck and effort towards being their healthiest selves and not feel self conscious about NA. You guys got this!

My dad used to catch me outside playing and then scrub my neck and elbows with a scrub brush and strong detergent till my skin was raw which only seemed to make it worse. I went to my doctor about it in my early 20’s and she basically blew it off but prescribed a bleaching cream if it bothered me so much. The cream burned and wasn’t covered by insurance so I only got it once as I couldn’t afford the $50 every couple of weeks. Years later my dad sent me an article on this condition and apologized for all scrubbing sessions and how I was treated about as a kid. Things no one “knew” about in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

@@gohawks3571 I've gained a lot of weight due to PCOS and its really hard to lose it as it affects a lot of hormones, not just the ovaries. Losing weight can help as it reduces insulin resistance. PCOS is an awful vicious cycle: ovaries don't work well and makes various hormones go crazy and makes you gain weight, but then weight gain affects hormone production so it makes pcos worse. It's like a no win. I've been on metformin for 3 years now, and was on the pill for almost 20, finally got the nexplanon implant in my arm. I don’t know if you are a woman, but I never wore sleeveless clothes just out of modesty, but now I’ve been using them and I absolutely LOVE dropped shoulders styles; they look so pretty and my shoulders are exposed but my armpits are covered! I’d love to hear you talk about lichen planus and lichen planopilaris. I’ve been diagnosed with the latter and it’s been particularly devastating. I’m working with a dermatologist, but it’d be great to get more exposure for these conditions. Particularly it’d be great to get more research done on it.

I have eczema and no matter what shampoo ( even medicated ) my scalp always flakes. But my eye brows do too. And it flares up after showering. I think I have eczema on my scalp but idk how to fix it. As a baby and kid I was told it was cradle cap but idk. Just have always had scalp issues.

I used to have this. My neck, the area around my lips, and many other areas of my body were full of this. After I lost weight, it went away slowly. I am trying a low-sugar diet now and strictly managing my weight. My neck area and mouth area are nearly clean.

I don't know what causes this, but I had it for a moment and was prescribed selenium sulfate and was told I could get it through selson blue dandruf shampoo. Back then there was only one version if the shampoo and has a main ingredient of selenium sulfate. I recommend anyone try this. It works. I left it on my neck 2-3 tumes a week for 10-30 minutes before I hooped in the shower. This active ingredient selenium sulfateis a MIRICLE for every skin issue from dandruff to psoriasis. I honestly don't know why it isn't the first treatment for anyone to try except that it cost so little in prescription form so doesn't make anyone any money (besides selson blue original formula containing selenium sulfide)

Wow!! That is good information, doctors!! I went years ago to see a dermatologist for face discoloration and the doctor right away looked at my neck for any signs of discoloration as this can be diabetes. But my neck wasn't discolored. Just under my eyes. So he said take some facing cleaners and called it a day. 🙄. You guys went into great detail! New subscriber. And I'll try those products you mentioned for the discoloration under my eyes. It's like a triangle shape. Lol weird. Thanks again!

I am 6 months pregnant. I found out I have Gestational diabetes. I went to my doctor because I started noticing I was very tired, and I would be hungry even if I had barely eaten. I assumed it was because of my pregnancy. I started noticing my neck and armpits getting darker. That’s when I told the doctor my suspicions. Sadly I have to wait until the baby is born to start any skin treatment. Gestational diabetes is a condition that causes high blood sugar. It can happen to anyone growing a baby. Diet changes have to be done to combat this condition. 😢

So sorry you are dealing with this issue during your pregnancy! Hopefully your Dr is carefully monitoring baby's size in utero as GDM CAN cause your baby to grow larger than usual, possibly requiring a C-section delivery (I'm sure they've covered all this with you tho). Sending you prayers & positive vibes for the remainder of your pregnancy and onward! ❤️👶🏻

The skin darkening is so normal tho, that will go away the first three months postpartum. Just make sure to moisturize and put body oil all the time during pregnancy.

Just happened to run across this, my Son went to the E.R. when he was sick and they noticed his neck was like this and told me his mother that I need to make him wash his neck it is dirty...knowing my son showers every day. My Son is also mixed so some areas of his skin are darker in thicker areas.....and he saw a Dermatologist who said nothing about it, although his primary care doctor had his blood tested and he is not diabetic. So nice to know it is actually something and not that my son is filthy lol
