I listened to the game's opening theme music, and it sounds exactly like our NTSC version. This one seems to be properly optimized for you guys. However, it's not so easy to tweak the speed of the music, as is the case with Super Mario Bros. The early PAL release of the game that came out in 1987 was a straight copy of our NTSC version, hence why it sounded very slow for you. In 1990, a re-release of Super Mario Bros. for the PAL market came out but its optimizations were not 100 percent due to the way the music had to be re-coded in relation to the video framerate; for PAL, there were only two available tempos, 83.33 and 125 BPM, and the '90 re-release of SMB for the PAL market set the tempo of the game's music to 125 BPM. This was chosen due to the fact that the game's sound engine could only represent note durations in relation to entire numbers of video frames.

I wonder... are there any kind of gameplay differences between this and the US and Japanese versions? You know PAL versions of NES games aren't really talked a lot online.
