I am 56 years old. I weighed 239lbs at 5'7" in Oct 2021. I was Morbidly Obese. After reducing all added sugar, eliminate soda and my fav choc milk. I then reduced red meat consumption and added brocoli, walnuts, blueberries among a few others to my diet. I started to walk, first month 4 days per week for 30 mins each time. Now, I walk 6-7 days per week for 45 minutes. I now weigh 159lbs. My family physican and neurologist are thrilled that I lost so much weight for being older. I am soon going off my blood pressure meds too and my balance issues have stabilized. Dietary change and brisk walking are that powerful!

@@ph-vf5hx True, but one of the main reasons is that everything is designed around cars and many/most roads have no sidewalks. Public transit does not exist in most places. One can't simply choose to walk instead of drive. But there are exceptions. I live in the metro NYC area and I can tell you that in Manhattan many people think nothing of walking for 30-45 minutes to get from one place to another. Similarly, many people think nothing of walking up 2-4 flights of stairs because it's faster than taking the elevator. Yet those people will tell you that they never exercise, lol.

My mom suffered for 40 years due to insulin resistance (tooth loss, severe depression, obesity, then diabetes II and dementia.) I am convinced none of it was hereditary. Her diet was toxic and she didn’t know it. She succumbed to her illness after exposure to COVID. I was a guardian for 25 years and people balked at me when I brought up her diet. A doctor finally said it recently, sugar is as addictive as cocaine, because it works on the same dopamine receptors. There is no accident that companies knew this and put it in everything. They should be ashamed. So sad. RIP MOM ❤

It isn't sugar. Type 2 Diabetes didn't exist until the intro of high fructose corn syrup in 1970. That's probably the culprit. Sugar has been around since the 15th century. The best sugar to use is called Evaporated Cane Juice which is nothing more than unrefined sugar. It has vastly different properties and that's the type people used in colonial America. Unrefined sugar retains its nutrients and has no chemical changes to its properties. It's the same way with unrefined salt vs refined salt. I had two bags of sugar in my cabinet and one day, I saw the unrefined evaporated cane juice bag moving around. I looked inside and at least 100 ants were inside actively feeding on it. The other bag, which was refined sugar, had only 2 ants in it and both were dead.

Yes ! I find the info about grains a bit confusing. The bible talks a lot about grains & flat bread so I can't see grains as being bad for us. However , the soil we grow grains in is defecienrt in nutrients and seeds are GM . Also how grains are processed etc all of these factors may make grains unsuitable for consumption today . There never used to be gluten intolerance and now everyone has it. So what has changed to make a biblical food into a poison ? That's how I see it. A change to make it harmful to us

@@zerotoleranceforsataniceli4794 grains are usually sprayed with glyphosate a couple days before harvest to dry them quickly and evenly. It never has chance to leave the grain. So in actual fact it is glyphosate intolerance not gluten. Chances are pure, clean, non-GMO grains will not cause the same issues. I feel like people have been duped, tricked, and groomed into suffering from metabolic syndrome and sugar addiction, and it has gotten worse in the last few generations. Had I known breakfast cereals were such bad news, I would have never eaten them, or continued to eat them. Fruit juice is presented as so healthy, but now I know it is a sugar bomb. Had I known eating pasta day in and day out was a horrible idea, I would not have carried on that past college (basically all I could afford in college). I could say I haven't suffered from sugar addiction, but I LOVE bread. Begrudgingly I have gone to limiting myself to 1 slice at no more than 2 meals a day. Decades ago, I did realize and conclude drinking sugared soda all day might mimick being diabetic as your blood would be full of sugar all day, and I stopped that! I wish I had been blessed with this knowledge many decades ago. If I had kids nowadays, there definitely would not be any breakfast cereal or juice, and some other items in the house or on their plate.

Because doctors are talking to you like you would live for ever and never have desease if you are eating healthy food all the time, which is not the case obviously because human as a whole have emotions, social interaction (hopefully), so basically what you eat is only a tiny part of the whole thing. If doctors were so right, we would see them living a longer life compare to the rest of us. Studies have shown that people living happy and for a long period are those people surrounded by a lot of other people, and not alone. We are social being, with emotions that can create desease. Just like the father in the next house, he did lose his son, and he also died few months later without any health problem before. I think accepting fat people and telling them it's ok to be like that, because we don't want to be rude, is becoming the main problem, making the sugar argument and presence irrelevant.

By March 2023 I was finally down to a fully Mediterranean diet, no pop or sugary drinks, only oil I cook with is olive oil. I stopped my cigarette addiction the same way. Slowly, little less every month. Haven’t smoked in 8 years. Sugar/process food was just as hard as that but the results once the toxic addiction is gone is so worth it. Filipinos eat and consume quite bit of sugar. They use it in everything. They also eat an overabundance of white rice. And many, drink tons of Coca-Cola too. All pre-cursors to Diabetes. When I married my Filipina wife, I stopped her from so much white rice and had her to start eating Brown rice and Quinoa. She also cut back on her sugars at least 60%. She is no longer Pre-diabetes.

My Dad. Every symptom, especially dementia, described him before he passed. I can’t stand soft drinks, but that’s all he would drink, no plain water ever. I tried to convince him that spring water is heavenly, not like tap. He didn’t care, had to have his soda and nothing else. I tried to explain the need for probiotic rich foods, like fermented foods, that I love, but he was like a kid again. No vegetables, nothing fermented, nothing healthy, EWWW! I told him “probiotics help suppress candida yeast that release hormones that make you crave the sugar they need for food, and suppressing it will suppress cravings,” but I didn’t know what I was talking about. I even said “you’re German and you don’t like kraut?” He said “I’m not that German.” I should have tried harder. I love garlic ginger turmeric kraut, oh my lord it smells so heavenly, ambrosia! I’m eating some right now.

People in their old age still drink regular soda but not in excess including warren buffet for one can a day of coca cola. Water can be considered poisonous as some people do die every year due to excessive water consumption and the water lacking enough minerals (coca cola doesn't). Coca cola is just a form of tea: water, sugar, and herbs (it was invented by a doctor). I believe keeping the soda down to one can or less per day and avoid drinking water excessively as food does contain lots and lots of water.

I am a diabetic. I severely limit intake of sugars. My late wife died at age 43. The minister officiating at her funeral asked to see her personal Bible. When he opened The Book he saw all the candy bar wrappers my wife had been using as place markers: she was never without one at the ready. My wife once quipped, "I can't understand why I can't lose weight." When I told her that it might have something to do with all sugary sodas and candy bars she consumed, I saw steam coming out her ears and she didn't speak to me for three days.

@winter_s_44

The problem is that the sugar they remove will be replaced with something unnatural and even worse for us. This is what they do now with “Low Fat” or “No Sugar” products. What unnatural and GMO ingredients do they add to replace fat and sugar? Harmful additives preservatives and sugar substitutes of all kinds that wreak havoc on our digestive and nervous systems. The answer is really just to recognize that most of the foods on shelves and fridges/freezers in your grocery store aren’t really food. It is up to you to stay away from those sections and stick around the produce section. Make your own sauces and stuff from whole foods and fresh seasonings and herbs.

Another one of you "this needs to be taught in school 🏫" folks. Well, surprise, it is, and so are many useful things, which is why education is stressed. Not to mention everyone in 1st world countries have access to the internet. Lesson here: just because something is taught doesn't mean it will be applied. As a teacher, I have such an issue with “This should be taught in schools.” Most children do not shop for groceries or prepare the meals they eat. That’s a parental responsibility. Most of the problems with young people today are not due to their lack of knowledge of nutrition, but to lazy, irresponsible parents who don’t care enough about their children’s health to educate themselves on healthy diets, and follow through to provide them. Stop trying to shift more parenting obligations onto teachers. We have our own families to raise.

Now I want a doctor that looks younger, a lot younger. You are almost too old, but still in the 'good' range. I've been taking care of a parent who is diabetic, overweight, has metabolic syndrome, including fatty liver, and this has triggered a litany of never ending health issues. For years I have been taking them to the clinic, hospital and it has taken such a huge toll on my personal life, it has limited me in personal activities and ruined romantic relationships... a huge chunk of this I'm understanding was the diet, sugary drinks, juices, little cakes, cereals and the "low-fat" (aka high sugar) diet craze. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic last year and was certain I was destined for the same fate. I stumbled upon channels like Dr. Hansen's, but also Dr. Berg's and I started intermittent fasting, nothing huge just skipping breakfast and going through straight to lunch just on coffee, cutting sugar (sugar IS everywhere once you start looking) and bread. I've cut back on eating out which honestly has ended up saving me tons of money. But I have legitimately annoyed everyone around me and it has been the hardest, going counter current to a lifetime of habits and perceptions. I'm down 20 lbs and I look better than I've looked in the last 5 years and feel more energetic. Other family members have been following. I hope I can still get a shot at life. Thank you Dr. Hansen and Dr. Berg. You are doing God's work.

Sugar is an addictive poison. Metabolic syndrome and fatty liver are directly related to sugar consumption. The best strategy is to completely eliminate sugar including fruit until you are metabolically healthy. If you eliminate sugar for 6 months, you will no longer crave it. What people fail to realize is that carbs are turned into sugar so if you have a fatty liver/metabolic syndrome , you should eliminate or severely restrict carbs to regain your metabolic health. A ketogenic diet that eliminates sugar and severely restricts carbs is the only path to recover from abuse your pancreas and liver have suffered from the standard American diet.

As I went through my 40s I really started piling on the weight and ended up with really high blood pressure and always feeling tired and no energy along with a slew of pills to take for BP. I tried my best not to eat cheap crappy foods but the food I did eat was high fat and still a lot of sugar, in it not a great combination, and fizz drinks plus sweet snacks. I decided to get a private blood panel done a couple of Years ago and my metabolic markers were way out, all borderline high or low, basically I was overweight and was pre-diabetic, and this was knocking out my metabolic markers. I did manage to lose a bit of weight but it wasn't really enough, I was about 6 stone overweight at my worst and the weight just piled on again worse than ever. The classic sugar addiction. I got the blood work done again recently and it was much the same. I am living on borrowed time, if I don't get this in check it will catch up with me. I did do a soups and shakes diet about 6 years ago and that brought my weight down about 4 stone in a 3 or 4 months, and I'm doing that again, the difference this time is I need to switch on to healthy meal plans after the initial weight loss, which I never done the first time. Otherwise, looking at me you would never know I had such a problem but I'm trying to do something about it. I know there are many people just like me probably unaware of what is going on in their body and they won't know until it's too late. i know this will catch up with me if I don't address it. Doctors should do these blood panels as a a matter of course so people know what's going on, so they can do something about it.

Don't get me wrong, there's tons of added fat too but it's more obviously gross and bad than added sugar.

I'd say you probably eat more sugar than you realize unless you eat nothing from a box or packaged foods. Here is the biggest driver of obesity: Vegetable/seed oils. In a study from the '60's that was hidden and not published until found by a phd graduate candidate about 10 years ago= They had 4 groups of rats. The first group was fed polyunsaturated fat( corn oil/soy/canola) at 25% of the calories. We might as well be eating desserts ALL day long!… 5 years ago March, 2018 I weighed almost 300lbs, but when I started the Ketogenic Way of Eating and in the first two (2) months I lost 50lbs and my INFLAMMATION WAS GONE and to this date I’ve lost 160lbs and I also managed within the first 2 months get off ALL six (6) of my medications: High Blood Pressure High Cholesterol Diabetes Heart Palpitations Acid Reflux and Hypothyroidism And I’m going strong to this day on the Ketogenic! I now fast 20 hours a day with a 4 hour window of one meal a day and a couple of healthy snacks and I am TOTALLY SATISFIED!… SUGAR IS THE CULPRIT OF ALL DISEASES!!! AND THE WORSE MANMADE SUGAR IS HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP (HFCS)-It’s the MAIN SUGAR that’s causing America to be the SICKEST & FATTEST Nation on earth and this same sugar is the one that is causing Food Addictions!…When consumed it NEVER shuts off the FULL SWITCH in our Brain and it NEVER shuts off the CRAVING SWITCH in our Brain and it causes us to THINK ABOUT FOOD ALL DAY LONG EVEN WHILE WERE EATING!!! HFCS is in almost ALL the foods: Breads Ice Cream Cookies Candy Some Condiments Some Soup Cans And we wonder why we can’t stop eating!!! Made a full recovery and discovered it was my lifelong sweet tooth that had caused severe insulin resistance. I've cut down drastically on my sugar intake, and only eating 2x a day, doing intermittent fasting 2x a week. Made lots of other changes as well, mostly dietary. But the craving never goes away.

If you work in a telephone call center and need to give people confirmation/reference numbers, you usually give the person 3 characters at a time. As people get older, you must go down to 2 or 1 character at a time, depending on how bad their memory is. My memory was getting so bad that I was down to copying only two numbers at a time. I went mostly carnivore, 100% gluten free, almost 100% seed oil free, and less that 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. After many months, I'm up to copying 4 numbers at a time.

To make the transition don't just focus on eliminating all sugar at once. Start by ADDING whole fresh meats and vegetables. Make yourself eat your healthy foods first and as your body gets nourished it will be easier to let go of the sugar and treats. Try hard boiled eggs for a treat when you're desperate :) Do it one by one or it's overwhelming and you'll be discouraged and quit the plan.

My mother passed in December of 2022 from Alzheimer's. She was not a "dessert person" and only when she became mentally ill did she start to eat sweet junk, because my father now had a "Free pass" to buy donuts, corn muffins, ice cream...and feed it to her. They had both been told in the last decade that they were pre-diabetic. I firmly believe that my mom's gut health was NEVER good, even when she was a baby and child and young adult. My grandmother said she couldn't nurse her because she vomited it up. This was in the 1930s. She was lactose intolerant, and as an adult had her gall bladder removed, and would have to move her bowels within a half hour of eating all of her life. What people don't realize is that refined carbs like pasta, bread and the like as well as the sugar in alcoholic beverages ALL spike the blood sugar, and ALL disrupt the gut flora. My dear mother was of Italian descent and lived on pasta, wine, bread...she did like green vegetables and salads but NOTHING stayed in her body long enough to get absorbed properly. Gut health is SO important for BRAIN health, and sugar is poison to a gut. She was never obese, but the sugar and alcohol took its toll on her brain..I'm on a quest to not repeat that pattern.Remember too that diet soda (aspartame) will MAKE a person crave carbs. Good for the diet soda industry; KEEP THEM FAT, THEY'LL KEEP BUYING DIET SODA!
