It reminds me of Korg Gadget, which I use a lot, but Korg has been doing this already for quite a few years. It seems like Roland is finally catching up in iOS music app world. The cool thing about about Gadget is that since about a year or so they've ported the plugins to Windows Which allows me to import the midi from gadget into Cubase and use the VST version of it on my windows machine. I must say that Zen beats looks to be quite good for a first impression in comparison to Gadget, especially when it comes to recording audio into it, which is Gadget's weak point. It's some good healthy competion, but what took Roland so long? The only iOS app that they had so far was Roland sound canvas. If they want to catch up with Korg they should make iOS version of the D50, TR-909 and the Jupiter-8! Korg have iOS versions of most of their famous synths such as the M1, Wavestation, Polysix and more.

Just for FUN ... hope you will make a Holiday KZbin of "Lawrence Welk meets Mannheim Steamroller" i.e. "I'll Be Home for Christmas (Lawrence Welk's harpsichord) then modulates into "a fancy Doctor Mix version of "Ill Be Home for Christmas" (Pure Synthesizers Mannheim Steamroller). @@LilHoss Is just for a quick fun, the free version only have some presets, but I think is a great choice for starters and people with low or no musical knowledge and skills who want to produce music. The drums machines are pretty good!

Hi Dr Mix, love your work and enthusiasm man... Just trying to revive my jam and updated my Cubase from v5 AI, to v11 AI..! Am so lost to say the least nowdays, trying to catch up!.. Could you please recommend a good basic budget midi controller? Every-time I go down that rabbit hole I convince myself that I need the latest and greatest $5000 midi supersynth controller!.. (yet practically, all I really need is a basic controller for my DAW)!!

Props for the multi-platform but I still miss the MV-8800. This is probably the smarter business move. It would be hard to complete with NI and Akai in that market. This would be perfect for a child to learn beat making on. Ableton should have done this long ago.

Surprised to see Claudio on iPad with Zenbeats :) it’s a good app, own it from day one. As cool as KORG Gadget and Cubasis, which DrMix may actually feel like home (and start Cubasis project on phone and continue on desktop). Claudio, please report to us when you actually do play any of those .... in the bathroom, or while waiting for an appointment, or flying plane, or driving a car. We do! Cheers!

ill be honest i tried it and there are some really good stuff in there but i dont think it is a replacement by any means. have a separate daw and use this for prototyping/writing ideas

I go the opposite way also. Sometimes I create small ideas in my daw, export the stems and import them into a ZenBeats track. I can add melodies or experiment with drum patterns anywhere at anytime. I can export the stems I create back into my daw or just use it as a scratchpad for ideas to record later. It has been an amazing tool for me.

This is a fantastic tool for an introduction to sample use and like Garage Band works as a plug & play. I'm not keen on companies that say this free but you can't use the full version or save anything without payment that's NOT free is it, it's a demo full stop. I have no problem with that if it's done honestly. I don't give out my email to everyone especially if I know I'm going to get hounded by junk and spam. I think businesses need to get with it, we don't read junk mail through the door why read it online?

I downloaded this on my Windows PC and sadly, after trying it for a minute had to uninstall it. Until Roland gives us the ability to choose the installation directory, I won't be reinstalling it. I don't like being forced to install apps onto my boot drive. So Claudio, if you have the opportunity to pass along comments to Roland, please pass this one along.
