My ax60 handled some of the base and lead stuff but d-50 had such a lush sound that it filled all the middle. my favorite presets were spacious sweep and the glass voices. I thought about getting a used one but I was very happy to get the boutique version instead.

How do I get them back?

In the place where I live this synth was broadly used by local bands in the 90´s and early 00´s and came to set a sort of standard. Nowdays many people seek to replicate that sounds and the price of the D50 in the local market is sky-high, like 800 - 900 USD

@geoffk7773 жыл бұрын
If you want these sounds, there are a lot of options. Of course, you can get a vintage D-50 or D-550. You can also get a used D-05 Boutique. Personally, I have a V-Synth XT, which can boot into a perfect D-50 emulation. The System 8 also has a D-50 emulation. And finally, the Roland Cloud has a nearly perfect D-50 softsynth emulation. Many of these sounds are also in Zenology Pro, so can run as a VST from there. And the new Fantom and other Zen-core instruments get these sounds too. Finally, the Integra-7 has some D-50 patches. Incidentally, the "Horn Section" sound at 8:17 was used in Paula Abdul's "Straight Up".

A true legend this synthesiser and used by many artists including Enya on her wonderful stunning track Orinoco flow. I believe she used the pizzicato strings. Gary Numan the wonderful pop artist also used many sounds on this as Jean-Michel Jarre and others. I believe this synthesiser runs on the linear arithmetic sound engine (LA). I’ve got a stunning Roland E 30 which runs on the same sound chip/engine and is a fantastic vintage arranger keyboard which also holds many of the stunning sounds on this stunning D 50 and others. The E 30 was released in 1990 and again has fantastic sounds and accompaniments for its timespan and a little more advanced than the E 20 which came out approximately two years earlier and other range of keyboards, including the Roland pro E also run on the same sound chip/engine. However, the E 30 has on-board an extra 64 sounds and many of those extra sounds not on previous models in the E series including the pro E. One of the extra sounds on the E 30 are wonderful, slow strings included within the extra 64 sounds giving a total of 128 zones on board the E 30.

When we were young and there weren't so many synthesizers, we could devote all our time and effort to explore a single synth... and the D-50 was one of such synths. If you know your way around this synth, you must be like me 😅

D-50 wonderful instrument from the 80s, perfect for new age music compositions. Thank you for sharing this passion for instruments. I had a strong emotion when you played with the I24 Combie String OMG sound. L-O-V

Wow, a D-50! Used to have one in 1988, one of the best digital synth Roland ever made and also I consider somehow ahead of it's time. Enjoy it Claudio! PS. Make room on Studio B for more stuff, I know more is coming...LOL!

Is there a preset on any other synth - vintage or otherwise - that can match the D-50's Cathedral Organ (starts at 33:56)? I mean, it's just _astonishing._ 34:29

Years ago, my bargain hunting uncle was at a goodwill and saw them unload a keyboard and asked how much he could buy it for, they said 20 US dollars. He gets home, I see it and to my surprise I see he had brought home a Roland D-50 with no power cord. I could not believe my eyes, I always had wanted a synth. We quickly adapted a plug and turned it on, and it was blank, no sounds, no presets. By this time, I was savvy enough to know about MIDI and with quick research found out that I could load sounds via SysEx. We still have it to this day.

@@F-Andre He played a bit of Orinoco Flow when demonstrating the Pizzagogo patch (albeit in a lower octave), which is what Enya used on that track.
