The sounds of the two first albums of Depeche Mode and first Yazoo should be tributed to Daniel Miller. Without him there wouldn't be a Depeche Mode to start with. The songs are Vince, but the sounds are Daniel Miller

The original DW theme (1963-1979) was created primarily using tone generators for the melody - all the individual notes were recorded as separate tones and then spliced together. There were no keyboards played at all on any of it. I guess you mean the 1980-86 version, which was created using primarily the Yamaha CS80?

I wish I had a copy of the magazine I read in the 80s. It had the patch settings for Only You by Yazoo. Yes he used a Sequencial Circuits Pro One. Also used a Roland Sh-101 too. And god knows many others I think lol.

The Yazoo group didn't have the means today to make this hit. They did it with analog synths and gave an inimitable sound. We see all the problems in recreating the original sounds. “Don’t go” will remain a hit, whatever we say, whatever we do! Many thanks, Dr Mix for this video! You make me want to do it again too! Cool!🤗

This is my favourite all-time song. I have so many happy memories of the summer of '82. Thank you so much for doing this. As for the original equipment, I'm pretty sure it was a Roland Jupiter 4 for the main melody, a Pro-One for the bass and a TR-808 for the drums. The 12" remix (and re-remix) dissects this song into all its constituent parts which is easier to hear. Great video !!!

It's an ARP 2600 and the 'special sauce' for the lead is to modulate the filter with VCO2

According to Music Radar, that intro was done on an ARP 2600: "Don’t Go would be the second (smash) single from the pair’s debut LP, Upstairs at Eric’s. An earworm of an intro from an ARP 2600 sets the stage, carried along by an incessant bass courtesy of Clarke’s ever-present Sequential Circuits Pro-One. A thick Roland Juno-60 bass complements Moyet’s soulful voice."

I've also read it was a Pron-One that did a lot of work on the song. I've done the lead sound before using an ARP (plus a couple of other bits). I did the same in two sws detuned, but to get the throatier octave lower sound I used PWM and detuned more than an octave.

God it's been forever, but I think I remember reading Vince primarily used a Pro-One and a Jupiter-4 on Upstairs at Eric's. When he moved on from Depeche Mode that is. He switched from an SH-1 or an SH-101(along with Millers ARP2600) to the Pro-One. Been awhile since I followed what Vince was up to. I never really got into Erasure.

I know Recreation's of Songs/Themes get "tiring" if it is done so frequently. But I have a suggestion. You guys should try and tackle the "Doctor Who Theme" for the 70's-80's. The synth sounds are extremely fat and the bass sample is right up you alley lol. There is actually a video of Peter Howell, who created the theme, show an interviewer how it was programmed to. Great video buy the way! Big Fan! :)

The riff on Don't Go is Sequential Pro One, fairly easy to get an almost perfect match with u-he Repro, the seq arp is also Pro One. I did a quick and dirty remix of Don't Go the week after I got the u-he Repro vst. The kick drum is prolly a triggered Arp 2600, clap is ofc 808 through a dist and alot of reverb, bass might be Pro One, hard to get vst sounds to reproduce bass, it needs the heft and the snap of an analog output.
