Wow, you worked hard to pick it apart , but the original sounds so much brighter and dynamic. Alf's voice takes it to another level. It's a brilliant track with fantastic instrumentation and mixing. One of my all time faves. Thanks for the breakdown, very entertaining 😊

As a kid making synthpop, in the 80s with friends, we called those kinds of slappy synth snares ‘tray drops’, because they sounded like someone dropping a metal tray in a warehouse.

I remembered the notes of this arpeggio, it were a 8 note sequence, check with those notes I believe Bb, Db, F, back to the first Bb and then Eb, Db, C, Ab descending line. You can hear that better in some extended versions maybe. Then your sound design is well OK.

Thanks for the video, Claudio Well, among other things, for the arpegiator line you didn't get it, Doctor, it's not just 3 notes, it's 6 (get an hear on the 12'' extended version, you will have it alone )

Hello, I bought your pack yesterday of "don't go" from YAZOO, it is very good but I regret that the midi files of the musical notes are not delivered with it. The 'Thriller' pack had the midi and audio files. Why not see the midi files? Could I have the midi files please? Especially in your promo video we see the midi sequences on the sequencer screen I have a midi pro one and I would have loved to send the lead midi track to the pro one. I am not a musician and cannot play the keyboard Thank you in advance for your answer. Christian

I don't think it's a 3-note ascending arpeggio. I think it's an 8-step sequencer where the first half is the arpeggio (adjusted for mode during the hook) but the second half is a descending run from the 4th-3rd-2nd and to the leadnote. It's easier to hear on the 8-minute original 12-inch mix than on the Radio Edit.
@DaveG2074 ай бұрын
Yep. I admit, I cringed when I heard a straight arpeggio but it’s really hard to hear in the single, so it was unfair of me. The long version has the sequence soloed and you can hear it clearly.

I might be wrong, I mean I'm almost certainly wrong, let's just assume I'm wrong... BUT, I still think the main lead riff is missing something, and I think that something might be some noise?
@KarlAdamsAudio4 ай бұрын
My initial thought was pink noise modulating the filter cutoff, but on further reflection it might be modulating the VCO frequency. They added some saturation, but that's not the kind of 'dirt' we're hearing in the original lead sound, it's way filthier than that.
@ScottsSynthStuff4 ай бұрын
Except...in the original track, it's not an arpeggiated sound, it's sequenced, and the sequence changes in different parts of the song.
@Martin_Demsky4 ай бұрын
If you slow down the arpeggio tempo, choose waveform with less harmonics, maybe it will sound like Fields of Coral by V. :-)

There is a brighter feel to the melody track of the original, as if the signal was split, inverted, low pass filtered and mixed back in modulated by an LFO. Good work, but not truly identical.

How cool where the 80's ... Every other song that came out was a hit for all times. The masters at work. The joy of making music first and people buying records (no free music), so that the quality was maintained. Then came the Napster and it was all game over from that point. Free yes, but 99% garbage.
