Superb overview of the product and what it's capable of, many thanks! Hopefully can get to the UK soon. I know you're looking to do more tutorials/demos in future - please use this sort of longer form format and vibe when you do, it's really great to see the overall process, have a bit more direction on how best to achieve the intended results (ratio's etc) and a pleasurable watch. As someone with not a lot of time to experiment and a horde of plastic to paint, it's really nice to have the ratios and technique known, only needing to change out the colour for what I want to achieve.

For some reason the way you first spoke about NEWSH made me think of the Cillit Bang adverts. Monument NEWSH. NEWSH and the dirt is on 😂 A major advantage to this is it is using acrylics versus something like an enamel Streak and Grime, so those makeup sponges can be used repeatedly if you wash it. I hate throwing those sponges away after 1 or 2 uses. You really are innovating in ways that other paint brands don't. Bravo 👏

I have my Newsh in the mail, along with some Laze and Wash Medium. Super excited to try both! One suggestion to the OP and anybody else reading this who is environmentally conscious: silicone baby food containers. Those single use plastic dishes are convenient, but super sub-optimal from a sustainability standpoint. Found a 16 pack of those silicone baby food containers on Amazon for $18 USD, and those should be super easy to clean and infinitely reusable for a huge variety of hobby things. Just an idea.

In simplistic terms, how does the "NEWSH Medium" differ from the "Wash/Glaze Medium"? When/Why may I wish to use one over the other? Your thoughts are welcomed.
@MonumentHobbies
@MonumentHobbies 7 ай бұрын
Glaze / Wash Medium makes traditional "apply and forget" washes. Newsh does subtractive washes, where you load it on and then take it away from areas to keep just what you need in the cracks and crevasses. Newsh has to keep the paint "open" and workable longer than acrylics are used to being to make that work.
@southpaw5483

@@MonumentHobbies Thx. If I want to prime a model white, and recess shade in a dark color (i.e., PreShade Grisaille), I could most likely use either approach. The wash I need to be more exact (like Panel Lining) whereby NEWSH, I could "slop" it on, and then remove from the raised surfaces without staining; Is that a fair overview?
@MonumentHobbies
@MonumentHobbies 7 ай бұрын
@@southpaw5483 Yep! That's a good way to look at it initially. After you use them, you'll find lots of other ways to branch out at different points in the mini. Here I use the Newsh late to do the streaking and such, which could be done after a typical wash too.

Super easy. I'm going to start experimenting with mixing newsh with contrast medium to see what kinds of weird stuff I can do with paint.

I've been using my pro acryl paints with adding a thick retarder medium, so I can do more like wet blending and wet-dry-brush stippling sort of effects to blend colors well. After watching this and the glaze and wash medium videos, I was wondering which of these would be better for that? Seems like the glaze and wash, but the retarder I've been using has a consistency a lot more like Newsh, and I only need a little. I've been starting to try both on my own, but would like some insight that might help.

@MonumentHobbies
@MonumentHobbies 3 ай бұрын
Varnish is the key if the paint you're using is lifting. Also let your layers cure a bit longer to insure you get top adhesion. You can add a bit more water to the mix too, and that makes it move a bit easier, so you don't have to use a ton of pressure to subtract.

Might have missed during the video, and don't see on the product page, but what is the drying time for Newsh?
@MonumentHobbies
@MonumentHobbies 7 ай бұрын
Going to depend on some factors, like how much you use in the mix - more = longer open time. How much you thin the overall mixture - more thinning = faster dry time. Also things like temp and humidity play a small part. We're here in the desert of Arizona, and all our testing got us upward of ten minutes or more for messing with it.

Don't have to al all! The model here was just over the base of our normal matte Pro Acryl. You'll notice that it gets a deeper filter from the all-over coverage layer of Newsh for sure this way. If you want a cleaner look to the open spots of armor, etc. then you can definitely use a coat of gloss to smooth out the surface and make the Newsh move more.
@OaknShield
@OaknShield 6 ай бұрын
Does the surface need to be gloss coated or do you achieve better effects with a Matt surface? I do this for my Gundams and will like to do the same for my 40K models after all paint is done. The possibilities with this product seem limitless.
@MonumentHobbies
@MonumentHobbies 6 ай бұрын
Not necessary, but will make the Newsh move even more. Using gloss first will allow you to get closer to your base color when subtracting the Newsh from high spots, while the matte finish (like here in the video) will grab more of the pigment along the way, making the overall filter heavier. Really just depends on the outcome you're looking for. Both are great!

Great video, but i'm a bit worried about how the product 'tints' the basecoat. I can definitely find uses for the product, but i don't think using it the way you are showing, is going to work for me. The problem with this example is that you took a strange jade-to-white airbrush workup and obliterated the transitions. Its the same issue you'd have if you were to sop agrax earthshade or nuln oil all over a perfectly airbushed model. Thus why we resorted to methods/products like pin/enamel/oil washing. So using it on a bright model would definitely be a no-no for me, but using it as a method for adding insanely bright colors into recesses, over a super dark basecoast would be ideal. I think that for the average hobbyist, just trying to get an army on the table, sure. Providing they haven't thrown their lot in with some sort of contrast/speed paint, and don't want to take that extra hour newishing the model on top of said contrast/speed paints. But in either case, and using the example in your video, i definitely won't be using it to paint my Death Guard. Does it replace oil/enamel washes? No. If you're concerned with the vibrancy of your work, this won't work as well as oil/enamel washes. Although, this does look like a pretty awesome way to glaze something, or add panel diffusion. And again, it might just be your studio lighting. I've noticed in alot of your streams, that it always seems like you guys are painting in a dark cave, with barely any light. Weird. You've already sold the product to me, regardless. I have a use for it.
@MonumentHobbies
@MonumentHobbies 7 ай бұрын
This workup was done intentionally to get this result. We have to assume that people paint knowing what they want. This works great in the world of minis for tons of stuff. Not replacing anything, just offering a solid alternative to messy, toxic solvents, and reactivation hassles. As for brightness, you're seeing exactly what it looks like. We tend to get used to oversaturated light, that shows you totally different things than in person. With us, you get what you see.
@MonumentHobbies
@MonumentHobbies 7 ай бұрын
As for the "tinting the basecoat" part - that's what a filter like this is for. If you just want recess shading, use our Glaze / Wash medium. Global filtering and weathering is what we're after with Newsh. We also put this over our matte base colors, so more pigment grabs the surface. If you want more of the vibrancy of your base to show though, you simply gloss varnish your base coating first. Then Newsh will glide right off like oils. Again, it's just knowing what you're looking for. The product will do what you want.
