@@arlosmith2784From personal experience, my husband was hospitalized for suddenly having massive amount of seizures. He had no medical insurance. He was in the hospital for 3/4 days, when bills came in they totaled between 60 & 70 thousand dollars. We had no idea how we were going to pay the invoices. Trying ever part of governmental departments for help, we were at a lost. Next, I came home to my house after food shopping and there was certified papers in the mail for a court hearing that stated We either pay the amount in full or I will be forced to sell my home in order for them to get paid. I am great full that a neighbor, a lawyer, handled the case at no charge, the total was reduced to half and made arrangements to pay $100.00 per month till paid. Also, when in the emergency room a total of 5 hours & 22 minutes, he had over 40 seizures, one after the other, so many others kept getting put in front of us, it was not until a woman stood up in the ER and SHOUTED at those in charge, “WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE GOING TO DO, WAIT FOR THIS MAN TO DIE BEFORE YOU HELP HIM?” A few others replied, “Yes, we all would like to know that answer!!!” The ER became silent, my husband went into another seizure and out of nowhere, he was rushed into the back and was being tended to. I asked one nurse, why did it take for a person to say something on his behalf that finally he is being treated? She replied, “Well to tell you bluntly, no insurance last to be treated, when the woman asked, they jump because you could get a good lawyer and sue for being mistreated. I replied all I want is my husband to be OK, the thought of seeing is not something I would ever do. After they threatened to take my house from me, Oh I thought, how I should have got that lawyer. I am a firm believer in karma, what comes around goes around.

@@irenemorley75YES, he does but sometimes people need assistance. There are many departments within the hospital that can help you get government assistance but most facilities do not inform patience what they can do to obtain medical insurance. Everyone does not have insurance, does not mean that they should be denied at The Emergency Room. He was elderly, come on now, if that was your dad or mom, how would you feel with either being treated with such disrespect? We are all the same no matter how rich or poor you are. One is no more important or better than the other.

Oh what a cruel and heartless doctors!!! What is important between money and human life? Human life ofcorse . Imagine to throw an elderly sick man out of the hospital in such a pouring rain!! It shows that this work is not their profession or call but only money making. Such kind of doctors shouldn't allowed to work in any hospital. We also have this kind of doctors who don't care about sick people who only work to only get salary at the end of the month. They simple tell sick people that they are well nothing is wrong with their health, but only to get rid of them from the hospital. Sometimes they give them far away appointment which they know by the time it arrive the sick person would be already dead.

I am a retired physician. In my 40 years of training and practice, I have never seen or heard of a patient being refused hospital care because they couldn’t pay. Hospitals employ social workers whose job it is to find any programs the patient might be eligible for. If there are none found, the billing office will work with the patient to pay what they can, and if the patients try to pay in good faith, they are put on a “Christmas list” from which patients are selected to have their debt forgiven.

How many sick patients die while the hospital is haggling over money for treatment ?. Despite the government's claim that America is a great country to live in, you can't honestly believe in that bullshit, when hospitals can turn away seriously ill patients who cannot afford to pay the highly inflated medical costs.

I admire that you spent over 40 years of your life helping people as a Dr. I have recently been in the hospital 3 times in 6 months. The hospital submitted the wrong codes for payment to my insurance and the bill had not been paid. I was put in a very similar situation to this gentleman. It was so humiliating to be treated that poorly after working hard all my life. The real kicker was it was their fault not mine that payment was withheld from them. My care was seriously in jeopardy because of this. The hospital and the Doctor with no compassion are now going to answer to the medical board. Our healthcare system is broke and these incidents should never happen but sir.....they do. This is medical abuse at a whole different level that begins with a $ sign in front of it.

I have seen some really cruel things in my years but that drew a line there. He was a helpless old man telling them the truth but they just didn't care. And that is one thing the hospitals are supposed to do is be kind and respectful. I sure hope they along with others learn from this. I am a nurse and hate to say this but all hospitals are a business now. When I started nursing it was different before the insurance had taken over and Dr's did not have any say in the care of a person. It is sad and my heart breaks to hear this story.

Money to doctors these days is more important than a human life . My brother died because of a medical employee had made a mistake , and my brother suffered for it . I hope to God I don't wind up in a hospital .

I find it hard to believe that doctors are prepared to kick out severely ill elderly people like this. If his body had been found shortly afterwards, would the hospital have been liable?

Hell, yes! It'd be against the law for any hospital to do that to ANY patient, regardless of the circumstances. There's NO excuse for them - the crooked and corrupt doctors and nurses to do something like this to any patient. IT'S WRONG. It's absurd. And it does happen to homeless people who become patients. They should be treated fairly and with respect just like anyone else. Period. Don't like it? Work somewhere else.

I live in Kailua, Kona Hawaii, where we have hospital called the "hospital of death". I had a client, elderly, a medical welfare who had an appendectomy performed. Her post-op resulted in her having jaundice. I have had pre-med training, assisted in many surgical procedures, almost as routine and one of the most simplest surgery. When I saw her, I was shocked to see yellow-colored skin, including the yellow instead of white in the eye. A few days later, being a taxi service I picked some of admid- staff, who laughed about a patient coming out yellowish, these staff were laughing. When I recognized who they were talking about, I told them, I knew the elderly lady, and rebuked them sharply and prayed God would judge each of them. I felt helpless, because I had to use the same hospital for a friend, they made him wait 6 hours at the ER. Please anyone with heart and conscience check on this hospital of "death".

In 2019 my friends 29 yr old son went to the emergency with 105 temperature. He had the temp for 2 days before his mom convinced him to go to the hospital. Josh had a successful business renovating, updating and repairing homes for people. He did not have insurance. He spent 6 hours in the hospital getting fluids and antibiotics pumped into him. As soon as they got his temperature down, he was told that is all they can do because he had no insurance. He could have and so could his dad. Unfortunately nobody called his dad and told him what was going on. Josh had an auto immune disease, but no one looked into what was actually wrong at this time. 2 days later him and his girl friend booked a room at a casino in Arlington Wa. Josh committed suicide in the room. Turns out he was hallucinating a lot. Everybody knows how dangerous a 105 temperature can be. He should have never been sent home without a scan, to see if he was okay after having a temp that high for 2 days. Now my friend has to live with the thought of his son being sent away over no insurance and all this could and should have been prevented.

I'll agree it was a good story. The Hospital is at fault, not the doctors. The hospital takes care of billing, doctors take care of patients, that's what truly makes this a story and a story only. Doctors are there for a paycheck. Administration over sees the doctors, so why did they have anything to do with the eviction?!
