He wasn’t a gardener in that movie. The movie was portraying him as a slave. It was called the Confederate states of America. It was telling the story of the confederate states or the south having won the Civil War. It was actually a pretty interesting movie. Scary thought.

Slavery would be obsolete due to two factors. One, farming was being automated in the late 1870s. Two, Britain the largest textile manufacturer in the world successfully cultivate cotton in Egypt that was as soft and white as southern cotton at lower cost. The southern cotton plantations would be cost out of business by these post ACW turn of events.

Meaning the 'gardener' at the end is the family's slave. I figure it goes without saying that keeping a group of people enslaved because of their race is racist. The creators made this ad and this movie specifically to portray racism, you can argue that they didn't succeed, but not that the intent here isn't to create an ad depicting racism.

For the uninitiated, this is from the movie CSA: Confederate States of America. It's a mockumentary that gives an alternate view of modern times had the South won the Civil War. It was produced as an independent film and later picked up by Spike Lee. Some of the products in the fake commercials are real products from an unfortunate past. It's actually pretty well done if you can find it to watch.

the commercial is from docudrama on Netflix called Confederate States of America. Movie is presented as a civil war documentary show on a local TV station in a world where the confederacy had won the civil war. this is a fairly tame commercial but there are others throughout the movie based on real advertising and products. some still in use today.

a brilliant moviemaker would have looked honestly at the subject matter...he did not. Nobody both knowledgeable and sane thinks we wouldn't ALL be better off if the south had won the war.

Slavery would have, without anything resembling a doubt, been ended PEACEFULLY within the decade if the war had never happened. Contrary to your government sponsored brainwashing, the war had almost nothing to do with ending slavery...neither side was willing to waste lives and wealth on the issue. You fuktards are more than happy being slaves to the government...when a Confederate victory would have made it likely we would still respect liberty and the Constitution in this country. As to my seeing the movie...got that right...I know crap when I see it...and Spike Lee has never produced one second of footage that didn't qualify.

The thing is, the south was being industrialized the same as the northern states, so in about 5-10 years, slavery would've been considered obsolete and abolished all over just like any other industrialized part of the world

Truth and even there constitution was going stop the import if slaves and all free men were citizens with the right to vote regardless of race

Not quite, because of the need for cheap labor in newly industrial areas many people, mostly black males were arrested on trumped up charges and conscripted into factory work. It was given the name of Convict Leasing, a type of enforced slavery that continued on for many years after the end of the civil war.
